Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji

ਦਵੈਤਭਾਵ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ, ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਰਾਖਸ਼ ਤਬਾਹ ਕਰ ਦਿਤੇ।

Because of the love of duality, God killed the demons.

ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੱਚੇ ਅਨੁਰਾਗ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਤਾਰ ਦਿਤਾ।

By their true devotion, the Gurmukhs have been saved. ||8||

ਹੰਕਾਰ ਅਦਰਿ ਡੁੱਬ ਕੇ ਦਰਯੋਧਨ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਵੰਞਾ ਲਈ।

Sinking down, Durodhan lost his honor.

ਉਸ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਸਰਬ ਵਿਆਪੀ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਅਨੁਭਵ ਨਾਂ ਕੀਤਾ।

He did not know the Creator Lord.

ਜੋ ਰਬ ਦੇ ਗੋਲੇ ਨੂੰ ਦੁਖ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਖੁਦ ਪੀੜਾ ਅੰਦਰ ਗਲ ਸੜ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

One who makes the Lord's humble servant suffer, shall himself suffer and rot. ||9||

ਜਨਮੇਜੇ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਬਚਨ ਨੂੰ ਅਨੁਭਵ ਨਾਂ ਕੀਤਾ।

Janameja did not know the Word of the Guru's Shabad.

ਸੰਦੇਹ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਉਹ ਆਰਾਮ ਕਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਸੀ।

Deluded by doubt, how could he find peace?

ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨੂੰ ਇਕ ਮੁਹਤ ਭਰ ਲਈ ਵਿਸਾਰਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਇਨਸਾਨ ਮਗਰੋਂ ਪਸਚਾਤਾਪ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

Making a mistake, for even an instant, you shall regret and repent later on. ||10||

ਕੰਸ ਕੇਸ ਅਤੇ ਚਾਂਡੂਰ ਦੇ ਤੁੱਲ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ।

Kansa the King and his warriors Kays and Chandoor had no equals.

ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਨਣ ਦੇ ਬਗ਼ੈਰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਆਬਰੂ ਗੁਆ ਲਈ।

But they did not remember the Lord, and they lost their honor.

ਆਲਮ ਦੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੇ ਬਾਝੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਨੂੰ ਬਚਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ।

Without the Lord of the Universe, no one can be saved. ||11||

ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਬਗੈਰ ਸਵੈ-ਹੰਗਤਾ ਮੇਸੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ।

Without the Guru, pride cannot be eradicated.

ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਿਖਮਤ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਈਮਾਨ, ਤਸੱਲੀ ਅਤੇ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ।

Following the Guru's Teachings, one obtains Dharmic faith, composure and the Lord's Name.

ਨਾਨਕ, ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦਾ ਜੱਸ ਗਾਇਨ ਕਰਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

O Nanak, singing the Glories of God, His Name is received. ||12||9||

ਗਊੜੀ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਪਹਿਲੀ।

Gauree, First Mehl:

ਮੈਂ ਅਗਰ ਤੇ ਚੰਨਣ ਦਾ ਅਤਰ ਆਪਣੀ ਦੇਹਿ ਦੇ ਅੰਗਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਲਾਂ।

I may anoint my limbs with sandalwood oil.

ਆਪਣੀ ਦੇਹਿ ਨੂੰ ਰੇਸ਼ਮ ਅਤੇ ਰੇਸ਼ਮੀ ਬਸਤਰ ਪਾਵਾਂ ਓਢਾਂ।

I may dress up and wear silk and satin clothes.

ਰਬ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਬਗੈਰ ਮੈਂ ਕਿਥੇ ਆਰਾਮ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ?

But without the Lord's Name, where would I find peace? ||1||

ਮੈਂ ਕੀ ਪਹਿਨਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਕਿਹੜੀ ਪੁਸ਼ਾਕ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਜ਼ਾਹਰ ਕਰਾਂ?

So what should I wear? In what clothes should I display myself?

ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੇ ਬਾਝੋਂ ਮੈਂ ਠੰਢ-ਚੈਨ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋਵਾਂਗਾ?

Without the Lord of the Universe, how can I find peace? ||1||Pause||

ਮੇਰੇ ਕੰਨੀ ਮੂਰਕੀਆਂ ਹੋਣ ਅਤੇ ਗਲ ਉਦਾਲੇ ਹੀਰਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਹਾਰ।

I may wear ear-rings, and a pearl necklace around my neck;

ਮੇਰੇ ਪਾਸ ਸੂਹਾ ਪਲੰਘ-ਪੋਸ਼, ਪੁਸ਼ਪ ਅਤੇ ਸੂਹਾ ਧੂੜਾ ਹੋਵੇ।

my bed may be adorned with red blankets, flowers and red powder;

ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਦੇ ਬਗੈਰ, ਮੈਂ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਕਿੱਥੇ ਲੱਭ ਸਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ?

but without the Lord of the Universe, where can I search for peace? ||2||

ਮੇਰੇ ਕੋਲ ਮੋਹਨੀਆਂ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਵਾਲੀ ਰੂਪਵੰਤੀ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਹੋਵੇ।

I may have a beautiful woman with fascinating eyes;

ਉਹ ਸੋਲਾਂ ਪਰਕਾਰ ਦਾ ਹਾਰਸ਼ਿੰਗਾਰ ਲਾਵੇ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮ ਮਨ ਮੋਹ ਲੈਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਬਣਾ ਲਵੇ।

she may decorate herself with the sixteen adornments, and make herself appear gorgeous.

ਜਹਾਨ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਦਾ ਆਰਾਧਨ ਕਰਨ ਬਗੈਰ ਇਨਸਾਨ ਸਦੀਵ ਹੀ ਖੱਜਲ-ਖੁਆਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

But without meditating on the Lord of the Universe, there is only continual suffering. ||3||

ਆਪਣੇ ਘਰ ਬੂਹੇ ਤੇ ਮੰਦਰ ਅੰਦਰ ਬੰਦੇ ਕੋਲ ਆਰਾਮ-ਦਿਹ ਪਲੰਘ ਹੋਣ।

In his hearth and home, in his palace, upon his soft and comfortable bed,

ਦਿਨ ਰੈਣ ਮਾਲਣ ਉਸ ਉਤੇ ਪੁਸ਼ਪ ਖਿਲਾਰਦੀ ਹੋਵੇ।

day and night, the flower-girls scatter flower petals;

ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਬਗ਼ੈਰ ਉਸਦਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਦੁਖੀ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ।

but without the Lord's Name, the body is miserable. ||4||

ਵਧੀਆ ਕੋਤਲ, ਉਮਦਾ ਹਾਥੀ, ਬਰਛੇ, ਸੰਗੀਤਕ ਬੈਂਡ,

Horses, elephants, lances, marching bands,

ਫ਼ੌਜਾਂ, ਚੋਬਦਾਰ, ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਅਹਿਲਕਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਕੂੜੇ ਅਡੰਬਰ,

armies, standard bearers, royal attendants and ostentatious displays

ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੇ ਬਾਝੋਂ ਇਹ ਕਾਰ ਵਿਹਾਰ ਫ਼ਜ਼ੂਲ ਹਨ।

- without the Lord of the Universe, these undertakings are all useless. ||5||

ਮੈਂ ਕਰਾਮਾਤੀ ਬੰਦਾ ਅਖਵਾਵਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਧਨ-ਦੌਲਤ ਤੇ ਗ਼ੈਬੀ ਸ਼ਕਤੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੋਲ ਸੱਦ ਲਵਾਂ।

He may be called a Siddha, a man of spiritual perfection, and he may summon riches and supernatural powers;

ਆਪਣੇ ਸੀਸ ਲਈ ਮੈਂ ਰਾਜਸੀ ਮੁਕਟ, ਸ਼ਾਹਾਨਾ ਟੋਪ ਅਤੇ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਸਰਗਸ਼ਤ ਬਣਵਾ ਲਵਾਂ।

he may place a crown upon his head, and carry a royal umbrella;

ਪ੍ਰੰਤੂ ਆਲਮ ਦੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੇ ਬਗੈਰ ਮੈਂ ਕਿੱਥੇ ਸੱਚੀ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ?

but without the Lord of the Universe, where can Truth be found? ||6||

ਮੈਂ ਸਰਦਾਰ, ਸ਼ਹਿਨਸ਼ਾਹ ਅਤੇ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸੱਦਿਆਂ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੋਵਾਂ।

He may be called an emperor, a lord, and a king;

ਹੰਕਾਰ ਅੰਦਰ ਮੈਂ ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ "ਹਮਕੀ ਤੁਮਕੀ" ਕਰਾਂ, ਪਰ ਇਹ ਸਾਰਾ ਕੁਛ ਝੂਠਾ ਦਿਖਾਵਾ ਹੈ।

he may give orders - "Do this now, do this then" - but this is a false display.

ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਦੇ ਬਗ਼ੈਰ ਕਾਰਜ ਰਾਸ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ।

Without the Word of the Guru's Shabad, his works are not accomplished. ||7||

ਹੰਕਾਰ ਤੇ ਅਪਣੱਤ ਮੈਂ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਤਾਬੇ ਭੁਲਾ ਛੱਡੀਆਂ ਹਨ।

Egotism and possessiveness are dispelled by the Word of the Guru's Shabad.

ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਿਖ-ਮਤ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਮੁਰ, ਦੈਂਤ, ਦੇ ਮਾਰਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੀ ਮੈਂ ਜਾਣ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।

With the Guru's Teachings in my heart, I have come to know the Lord.

ਨਾਨਕ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, "ਹੈ ਮਾਲਕ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਪਨਾਹ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹਾਂ।"

Prays Nanak, I seek Your Sanctuary. ||8||10||

ਗਊੜੀ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਪਹਿਲੀ।

Gauree, First Mehl:

ਜੋ ਇਕ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੀ ਟਹਿਲ ਕਮਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਹੋਰਸ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦਾ।

Those who serve the One Lord, do not know any other.

ਉਹ ਕੌੜੇ ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ਬਖੇੜੇ ਛੱਡ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

They abandon the bitter worldly conflicts.

ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਤੇ ਸੱਚ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਉਹ ਸੱਚਿਆਰਾ ਦੇ ਪਰਮ ਸੱਚਿਆਰ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੈ।

Through love and truth, they meet the Truest of the True. ||1||

ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਜਾ-ਨਿਸਾਰ ਗੋਲਾ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦਾ।

Such are the humble devotees of the Lord.

ਉਹ ਆਪਣੀ ਮਲੀਨਤਾ ਧੋ ਸੁਟਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਜੱਸ ਗਾਇਨ ਕਰਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੈ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।

They sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, and their pollution is washed away. ||1||Pause||

ਮੂਧਾ ਹੈ ਦਿਲ-ਕਮਲ ਸਾਰੇ ਜਹਾਨ ਦਾ।

The heart-lotus of the entire universe is upside-down.

ਮੰਦੀ ਅਕਲ ਦੀ ਅੱਗ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਸਾੜ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ।

The fire of evil-mindedness is burning up the world.

ਉਹ ਬਚ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

They alone are saved, who contemplate the Word of the Guru's Shabad. ||2||

ਭੋਰਾ, ਪਰਵਾਨ, ਹਾਥੀ, ਮੱਛੀ,

The bumble bee, the moth, the elephant, the fish

ਅਤੇ ਹਰਨ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਦਾ ਫਲ ਪਾਉਂਦੇਂ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਮਰ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।

and the deer - all suffer for their actions, and die.

ਖ਼ਾਹਿਸ਼ ਅੰਦਰ ਗ਼ਲਤਾਨ ਉਹ ਅਸਲੀਅਤ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਵੇਖਦੇ।

Trapped by desire, they cannot see reality. ||3||

ਤ੍ਰੀਮਤ ਦਾ ਆਸ਼ਕ, ਭੋਗ-ਬਿਲਾਸ ਦਾ ਖਿਆਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

The lover of women is obsessed with sex.

ਗੁੱਸਾ ਸਾਰੇ ਗੁਨਹਿਗਾਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤਬਾਹ ਕਰ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

All the wicked are ruined by their anger.

ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਭੁਲਾ ਕੇ ਇਨਸਾਨ ਆਪਣੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਤੇ ਅਕਲ ਗੁਆ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

Honor and good sense are lost, when one forgets the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||4||
