Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji

ਉਸ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਅਖੀਰ ਜਾਂ ਹੱਦਬੰਨਾ ਨਹੀਂ।

He has no end or limitation.

ਆਪਣੇ ਫੁਰਮਾਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਅਸਥਾਪਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਬਿਨਾਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਆਸਰੇ ਦੇ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਰਖਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।

By His Order, He established the earth, and He maintains it unsupported.

ਜੋ ਕੁਛ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅਮਰ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਉਤਪੰਨ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਓੜਕ ਨੂੰ ਉਸਦੇ ਅਮਰ ਅੰਦਰ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

By His Order, the world was created; by His Order, it shall merge again into Him.

ਚੰਗੇ ਤੇ ਮੰਦੇ ਕਾਰ-ਵਿਹਾਰ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਰਜਾ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਹਨ।

By His Order, one's occupation is high or low.

ਉਸ ਦੇ ਫੁਰਮਾਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਰੰਗ ਅਤੇ ਵੰਨਗੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਜੀਵ ਸਾਜੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।

By His Order, there are so many colors and forms.

ਰਚਨਾ ਨੂੰ ਰਚ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੀ ਨਿੱਜ ਦੀ ਵਿਸ਼ਾਲਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹੈ।

Having created the Creation, He beholds His own greatness.

ਨਾਨਕ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਵਸਤੂਆਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।

O Nanak, He is pervading in all. ||1||

ਜੇਕਰ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲਗੇ, ਬੰਦਾ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਪਾ ਲੈਦਾ ਹੈ।

If it pleases God, one attains salvation.

ਜੇਕਰ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲਗੇ ਤਦ ਉਹ ਪੱਥਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤਾਰ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

If it pleases God, then even stones can swim.

ਜੇਕਰ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲਗੇ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਦੇਹਿ ਨੂੰ ਬਿਨਾਂ ਸਾਹ ਦੇ ਬਚਾਈ ਰਖਦਾ ਹੈ।

If it pleases God, the body is preserved, even without the breath of life.

ਜੇਕਰ ਸਾਈਂ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲਗੇ ਤਦ, ਬੰਦਾ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਜੱਸ ਉਚਾਰਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

If it pleases God, then one chants the Lord's Glorious Praises.

ਜੇਕਰ ਸਾਈਂ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗੇ ਤਦ ਉਹ ਪਾਪੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਤਾਰ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

If it pleases God, then even sinners are saved.

ਠਾਕੁਰ ਆਪੇ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਸੋਚਦਾ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ।

He Himself acts, and He Himself contemplates.

ਉਹ ਖੁਦ ਦੋਨਾ ਕਿਨਾਰਿਆਂ (ਜਹਾਨਾ) ਦਾ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਹੈ।

He Himself is the Master of both worlds.

ਦਿਲਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਜਾਨਣਹਾਰ ਖੇਡਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਖੁਸ਼ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

He plays and He enjoys; He is the Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts.

ਉਹ ਬੰਦੇ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਉਹ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਵਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਭਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

As He wills, He causes actions to be done.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਬਾਝੋਂ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿਸਦਾ।

Nanak sees no other than Him. ||2||

ਦੱਸੋ! ਆਦਮੀ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਕੀ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ?

Tell me - what can a mere mortal do?

ਜਿਹੜਾ ਕੁਛ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਭਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਓਹੀ ਕੁਛ ਕਰਵਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

Whatever pleases God is what He causes us to do.

ਜੇਕਰ ਇਹ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਦੇ ਹੱਥ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਹਰ ਸ਼ੈ ਲੈ ਲੈਂਦਾ।

If it were in our hands, we would grab up everything.

ਜਿਹੜਾ ਕੁਝ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲਗਦਾ ਉਹ ਉਹੀ ਕੁਝ ਕਰਦਾ।

Whatever pleases God - that is what He does.

ਸਮਝ ਨਾਂ ਹੋਣ ਕਰਕੇ ਬੰਦਾ ਪਾਪ ਅੰਦਰ ਖੱਚਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

Through ignorance, people are engrossed in corruption.

ਜੇਕਰ ਉਹ (ਹਰੀ ਨੂੰ) ਪਛਾਣੇ, ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਬਚਾ ਲਵੇ।

If they knew better, they would save themselves.

ਸੰਦੇਹ ਦਾ ਬਹਿਕਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਦਸੀਂ ਪਾਸੀਂ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਹੈ।

Deluded by doubt, they wander around in the ten directions.

ਚੋਹੀਂ ਨੁੱਕਰੀ ਚੱਕਰ ਕੱਟ ਕੇ, ਇਹ ਇਕ ਮੁਹਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਵਾਪਸ ਮੁੜ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

In an instant, their minds go around the four corners of the world and come back again.

ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਦਇਆ ਧਾਰ ਕੇ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਪ੍ਰਦਾਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,

Those whom the Lord mercifully blesses with His devotional worship

ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ, ਉਹ ਪੁਰਸ਼ ਨਾਮ ਅੰਦਰ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

- O Nanak, they are absorbed into the Naam. ||3||

ਇਕ ਮੁਹਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਹ ਇਕ ਨੀਵੇਂ ਕੀੜੇ ਨੂੰ ਰਾਜਾ ਬਣਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ।

In an instant, the lowly worm is transformed into a king.

ਪਰਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਸਕੀਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਣ ਬਖਸ਼ਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।

The Supreme Lord God is the Protector of the humble.

ਜੋ ਮੁਲੋਂ ਹੀ ਕਿਸੇ ਦੀ ਨਿਗ੍ਹਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਚੜ੍ਹਦਾ,

Even one who has never been seen at all,

ਸੁਆਮੀ, ਝਟਪਟ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਦਸੀਂ ਪਾਸੀਂ ਪਰਸਿਧ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ।

becomes instantly famous in the ten directions.

ਜਿਸ ਉਤੇ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਧਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ,

And that one upon whom He bestows His blessings

ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦਾ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਹਿਸਾਬ ਕਿਤਾਬ ਨਹੀਂ ਗਿਣਦਾ।

the Lord of the world does not hold him to his account.

ਜਿੰਦੜੀ ਅਤੇ ਦੇਹਿ ਸਭ ਉਸੇ ਦੀ ਪੂੰਜੀ ਹਨ।

Soul and body are all His property.

ਹਰ ਦਿਲ ਨੂੰ ਮੁਕੰਮਲ ਮਾਲਕ ਰੋਸ਼ਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

Each and every heart is illuminated by the Perfect Lord God.

ਆਪਣੀ ਨਿੱਜ ਦੀ ਬਣਤਰ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਖੁਦ ਹੀ ਬਣਾਈ ਹੈ।

He Himself fashioned His own handiwork.

ਨਾਨਕ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਮਹਾਨਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਜੀਊਦਾ ਹੈ।

Nanak lives by beholding His greatness. ||4||

ਇਸ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਦੀ ਤਾਕਤ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਹੱਥ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਹੀਂ।

There is no power in the hands of mortal beings;

ਹੇਤੂਆਂ ਦਾ ਹੇਤੂ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਹੈ।

the Doer, the Cause of causes is the Lord of all.

ਨਿਹੱਥਲ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੇ ਫੁਰਮਾਨ ਦੇ ਤਾਬੇ ਹੈ।

The helpless beings are subject to His Command.

ਜੋ ਕੁਛ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਭਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਖਰਕਾਰ, ਉਹੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

That which pleases Him, ultimately comes to pass.

ਕਦੇ ਆਦਮੀ ਉਚਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਕਦੇ ਨੀਚਤਾ ਅੰਦਰ ਵਸਦਾ ਹੈ।

Sometimes, they abide in exaltation; sometimes, they are depressed.

ਕਦੇ ਉਹ ਗਮੀਂ ਨਾਲ ਦੁਖਾਂਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਕਦੇ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਤੇ ਪਰਸੰਨਤਾ ਨਾਲ ਹੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ।

Sometimes, they are sad, and sometimes they laugh with joy and delight.

ਕਦੇ ਕਲੰਕ ਲਾਉਣ ਤੇ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਫਿਕਰ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਪੇਸ਼ਾ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ।

Sometimes, they are occupied with slander and anxiety.

ਕਦੇ ਉਹ ਉਤੇ ਅਸਮਾਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਕਦੇ ਹੇਠਾਂ ਪਾਤਾਲ ਵਿੱਚ।

Sometimes, they are high in the Akaashic Ethers, sometimes in the nether regions of the underworld.

ਕਦੇ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਗਿਆਤ ਦਾ ਜਾਣੂ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

Sometimes, they know the contemplation of God.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਬੰਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾਉਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।

O Nanak, God Himself unites them with Himself. ||5||

ਕਦੇ ਆਦਮੀ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਤ੍ਰੀਕਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਨੱਚਦਾ ਹੈ।

Sometimes, they dance in various ways.

ਕਦੇ ਉਹ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਸੁੱਤਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

Sometimes, they remain asleep day and night.

ਕਦੇ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਜਬਰਦਸਤ ਗੁੱਸੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਭਿਆਨਕ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

Sometimes, they are awesome, in terrible rage.

ਕਦੇ ਉਹ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਪੈਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

Sometimes, they are the dust of the feet of all.

ਕਦੇ ਉਹ ਵੱਡਾ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਹੋ ਬੈਠਦਾ ਹੈ।

Sometimes, they sit as great kings.

ਕਦੇ ਉਹ ਨੀਵੇਂ ਮੰਗਤੇ ਦੀ ਪੁਸ਼ਾਕ ਪਾ ਲੈਦਾ ਹੈ।

Sometimes, they wear the coat of a lowly beggar.

ਕਦੇ ਉਹ ਬਦਨਾਮੀ ਅੰਦਰ ਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

Sometimes, they come to have evil reputations.

ਕਦੇ ਉਹ ਪਰਮ ਚੰਗਾ ਆਖਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

Sometimes, they are known as very, very good.

ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਹੀ ਉਹ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

As God keeps them, so they remain.

ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਰਹਿਮਤ ਸਦਕਾ, ਨਾਨਕ ਸੱਚ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ।

By Guru's Grace, O Nanak, the Truth is told. ||6||

ਕਦੇ ਬੰਦਾ ਬਤੌਰ ਵਿੱਦਵਾਨ ਦੇ ਲੈਕਚਰ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

Sometimes, as scholars, they deliver lectures.

ਕਦੇ ਉਹ ਚੁੱਪ ਕੀਤੇ ਸਾਧੂ ਵਜੋਂ ਬਿਰਤੀ ਜੋੜਦਾ ਹੈ।

Sometimes, they hold to silence in deep meditation.

ਕਦੇ ਉਹ ਯਾਤ੍ਰਾਂ ਅਸਥਾਨਾ ਦੇ ਕਿਨਾਰਿਆਂ ਉਤੇ ਨ੍ਹਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

Sometimes, they take cleansing baths at places of pilgrimage.

ਕਦੇ ਉਹ ਕਰਾਮਾਤੀ ਬੰਦੇ ਅਤੇ ਅਭਿਆਸੀ ਦੇ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਮੂੰਹੋਂ ਰੱਬੀ ਭਜਨ ਪ੍ਰਚਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

Sometimes, as Siddhas or seekers, they impart spiritual wisdom.

ਕਦੇ ਆਦਮੀ ਕੀੜਾ, ਹਾਥੀ ਜਾ ਪਰਵਾਨਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ,

Sometimes, they becomes worms, elephants, or moths.

ਅਤੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜੂਨੀਆਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਲਗਾਤਾਰ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਹੈ।

They may wander and roam through countless incarnations.
