ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦੜੀਏ! ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਤੂੰ ਐਹੋ ਜੇਹੇ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰ,
Through the Guru's Teachings, realize that He is pervading in all bodies;
ਹਰਿ ਭਜੁ. ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ; ਗਹਿਰ ਗੰਭੀਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
har bhaj. mere man; gahir ganbheeraa |1| rahaau |
ਜੋ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਦੇਹਾਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਰਮਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਤੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਹੀ ਡੂੰਘਾ ਹੈ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।
O my soul, vibrate on the Profound, Unfathomable Lord. ||1||Pause||
ਅਨਤ ਤਰੰਗ; ਭਗਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗਾ ॥

ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਘਣੇਰੀਆਂ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਦੀਆਂ ਲਹਿਰਾਂ ਹਨ।
Loving devotion to the Lord brings endless waves of joy and delight.
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸੂਚੇ; ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਸੰਗਾ ॥
anadin sooche; har gun sangaa |
ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਹੀ ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਹੈ।
One who dwells with the Glorious Praises of the Lord, night and day, is sanctified.
ਮਿਥਿਆ ਜਨਮੁ; ਸਾਕਤ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥
mithiaa janam; saakat sansaaraa |
ਇਸ ਜਹਾਨ ਅੰਦਰ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਉਪਾਸ਼ਕ ਦਾ ਜੰਮਣਾ ਬੇਫ਼ਾਇਦਾ ਹੈ।
The birth into the world of the faithless cynic is totally useless.
ਰਾਮ ਭਗਤਿ ਜਨੁ; ਰਹੈ ਨਿਰਾਰਾ ॥੨॥
raam bhagat jan; rahai niraaraa |2|
ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਦੇ ਸਮਰਪਣ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਬੰਦਾ ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
The humble devotee of the Lord remains unattached. ||2||
ਸੂਚੀ ਕਾਇਆ; ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇਆ ॥
soochee kaaeaa; har gun gaaeaa |
ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਦੇਹ ਜੋ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਜੱਸ ਗਾਇਨ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ।
The body which sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord is sanctified.
ਆਤਮੁ ਚੀਨਿ; ਰਹੈ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇਆ ॥
aatam cheen; rahai liv laaeaa |
ਆਪਣੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਚੇਤੇ ਕਰ ਕੇ, ਇਹ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
The soul remains conscious of the Lord, absorbed in His Love.
ਆਦਿ ਅਪਾਰੁ; ਅਪਰੰਪਰੁ ਹੀਰਾ ॥
aad apaar; aparanpar heeraa |
ਸਾਹਿਬ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਆਰੰਭ, ਬੇਅੰਤ, ਦੁਰੇਡਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਪਰਮ ਦੁਰੇਡਾ ਅਤੇ ਅਮੋਲਕ ਹੈ।
The Lord is the Infinite Primal Being, beyond the beyond, the priceless jewel.
ਲਾਲਿ ਰਤਾ; ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਧੀਰਾ ॥੩॥
laal rataa; meraa man dheeraa |3|
ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਨਾਲ ਮੇਰਾ ਚਿੱਤ ਰੰਗੀਜਿਆ ਤੇ ਸੰਤੁਸ਼ਟ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
My mind is totally content, imbued with my Beloved. ||3||
ਕਥਨੀ ਕਹਹਿ; ਕਹਹਿ ਸੇ ਮੂਏ ॥
kathanee kaheh; kaheh se mooe |
ਜੋ ਕੇਵਲ ਜਬਾਨੀ ਕਹਾਣੀਆਂ ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਤੇ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਅਸਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਮਰੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ।
Those who speak and babble on and on, are truly dead.
ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ. ਦੂਰਿ ਨਾਹੀ; ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਤੂੰ ਹੈ ॥
so prabh. door naahee; prabh toon hai |
ਉਹ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੁਰੇਡੇ ਨਹੀਂ। ਤੂੰ ਹੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ, ਐਨ ਨੇੜੇ ਹੀ ਹੈਂ।
God is not far away - O God, You are right here.
ਸਭੁ ਜਗੁ ਦੇਖਿਆ; ਮਾਇਆ ਛਾਇਆ ॥
sabh jag dekhiaa; maaeaa chhaaeaa |
ਮੈਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਜਹਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਮੋਹਨੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਨਾਲ ਲਪੇਟਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਹੈ।
I have seen that the whole world is engrossed in Maya.
ਨਾਨਕ; ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥੪॥੧੭॥

ਨਾਨਕ, ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਮੈਂ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ।
O Nanak, through the Guru's Teachings, I meditate on the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||4||17||
ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ਤਿਤੁਕਾ ॥

Aasaa, First Mehl, Thi-Thukay:
ਕੋਈ ਭੀਖਕੁ; ਭੀਖਿਆ ਖਾਇ ॥
koee bheekhak; bheekhiaa khaae |
ਕੋਈ ਮੰਗਤਾ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਮੰਗ ਪਿੰਨ ਕੇ ਖਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
One is a beggar, living on charity;
ਕੋਈ ਰਾਜਾ; ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਇ ॥
koee raajaa; rahiaa samaae |
ਅਤੇ ਕੋਈ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ, ਜੋ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
another is a king, absorbed in himself.
ਕਿਸ ਹੀ ਮਾਨੁ; ਕਿਸੈ ਅਪਮਾਨੁ ॥
kis hee maan; kisai apamaan |
ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ, ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਬੇਇੱਜ਼ਤੀ।
One receives honor, and another dishonor.
ਢਾਹਿ ਉਸਾਰੇ; ਧਰੇ ਧਿਆਨੁ ॥
dtaeh usaare; dhare dhiaan |
ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਰਚਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਖਿਆਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ।
The Lord destroys and creates; He is enshrined in His meditation.
ਤੁਝ ਤੇ ਵਡਾ; ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥
tujh te vaddaa; naahee koe |
ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਵਿਸ਼ਾਲ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!
There is no other as great as You.
ਕਿਸੁ ਵੇਖਾਲੀ; ਚੰਗਾ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥
kis vekhaalee; changaa hoe |1|
ਮੈਂ ਕਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਤੇਰੇ ਮੂਹਰੇ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕਰਾਂ, ਜੋ ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਅੱਛਾ ਹੈ?
So whom should I present to You? Who is good enough? ||1||
ਮੈ ਤਾਂ; ਨਾਮੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਆਧਾਰੁ ॥
mai taan; naam teraa aadhaar |
ਮੇਰਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਕੇਵਲ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਹੈ।
The Naam, the Name of the Lord, is my only Support.
ਤੂੰ ਦਾਤਾ; ਕਰਣਹਾਰੁ ਕਰਤਾਰੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

ਤੂੰ ਦਾਨ ਦੇਣਹਾਰ, ਕਾਰਜ ਸਾਧਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਅਤੇ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ ਹੈਂ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।
You are the Great Giver, the Doer, the Creator. ||1||Pause||
ਵਾਟ. ਨ ਪਾਵਉ; ਵੀਗਾ ਜਾਉ ॥
vaatt. na paavau; veegaa jaau |
ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਰਸਤੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਟੁਰਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਟੇਢੇ ਰਾਹੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
I have not walked on Your Path; I have followed the crooked path.
ਦਰਗਹ, ਬੈਸਣ ਨਾਹੀ ਥਾਉ ॥
daragah, baisan naahee thaau |
ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਅੰਦਰ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਬਹਿਣ ਲਈ ਕੋਈ ਥਾਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦੀ।
In the Court of the Lord, I find no place to sit.
ਮਨ ਕਾ ਅੰਧੁਲਾ; ਮਾਇਆ ਕਾ ਬੰਧੁ ॥
man kaa andhulaa; maaeaa kaa bandh |
ਮੈਂ ਮਾਨਸਕ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਅੰਨ੍ਹਾ ਹਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਮੋਹਨੀ ਦਾ ਨਰੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹਾਂ,
I am mentally blind, in the bondage of Maya.
ਖੀਨ ਖਰਾਬੁ ਹੋਵੈ; ਨਿਤ ਕੰਧੁ ॥
kheen kharaab hovai; nit kandh |
ਅਤੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਦੇਹਿ ਦੀ ਦੀਵਾਰ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਨਾਸ ਤੇ ਕਮਜ਼ੋਰ ਹੋ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ।
The wall of my body is breaking down, wearing away, growing weaker.
ਖਾਣ ਜੀਵਣ ਕੀ; ਬਹੁਤੀ ਆਸ ॥
khaan jeevan kee; bahutee aas |
ਤੂੰ ਖਾਣ ਅਤੇ ਵਧੇਰਾ ਜੀਉਣ ਦੀ ਭਾਰੀ ਉਮੈਦ ਬੰਨ੍ਹੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ,
You have such high hopes of eating and living
ਲੇਖੈ ਤੇਰੈ; ਸਾਸ ਗਿਰਾਸ ॥੨॥
lekhai terai; saas giraas |2|
ਪਰ ਤੂੰ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਿ ਤੇਰੇ ਸਾਹ ਅਤੇ ਬੁਰਕੀਆਂ ਅਗੇ ਗਿਣੀਆਂ ਹੋਈਆਂ ਹਨ।
- your breaths and morsels of food are already counted! ||2||
ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ; ਅੰਧੁਲੇ ਦੀਪਕੁ ਦੇਇ ॥
ahinis; andhule deepak dee |
ਹੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ! ਮੁਨਾਖੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਚਾਨਣ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼,
Night and day they are blind - please, bless them with Your Light.
ਭਉਜਲ ਡੂਬਤ; ਚਿੰਤ ਕਰੇਇ ॥
bhaujal ddoobat; chint karee |
ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ iਫ਼ਕਰ ਕਰ ਜੋ ਭਿਆਨਕ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਅੰਦਰ ਡੁੱਬ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
They are drowning in the terrifying world-ocean, crying out in pain.
ਕਹਹਿ ਸੁਣਹਿ; ਜੋ ਮਾਨਹਿ ਨਾਉ ॥
kaheh suneh; jo maaneh naau |
ਜੋ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਉਚਾਰਣ ਸ੍ਰਵਣ ਅਤੇ ਮੰਨਣ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ,
I am a sacrifice to those who chant,
ਹਉ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੈ; ਤਾ ਕੈ ਜਾਉ ॥
hau balihaarai; taa kai jaau |
ਮੈਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਉੱਤੋ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
Hear and believe in the Name.
ਨਾਨਕੁ; ਏਕ ਕਹੈ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ॥
naanak; ek kahai aradaas |
ਨਾਨਕ ਇਕ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
Nanak utters this one prayer;
ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਸਭੁ; ਤੇਰੈ ਪਾਸਿ ॥੩॥
jeeo pindd sabh; terai paas |3|
ਕਿ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਆਤਮਾ ਅਤੇ ਦੇਹਿ ਸਾਰੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਹਵਾਲੇ ਹਨ, ਹੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ!
soul and body, all belong to You, Lord. ||3||
ਜਾਂ ਤੂੰ ਦੇਹਿ; ਜਪੀ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਉ ॥
jaan toon dehi; japee teraa naau |
ਜੇ ਦੇਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਜਾਪ ਕਰਾਂਗਾ।
When You bless me, I chant Your Name.
ਦਰਗਹ ਬੈਸਣ, ਹੋਵੈ ਥਾਉ ॥
daragah baisan, hovai thaau |
ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਅੰਦਰ ਬਹਿਣ ਨੂੰ ਥਾਂ ਪਾ ਲਵਾਂਗਾ।
Thus I find my seat in the Court of the Lord.
ਜਾਂ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ; ਤਾ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਜਾਇ ॥
jaan tudh bhaavai; taa duramat jaae |
ਜਦ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਦ, ਮੰਦੀ ਅਕਲ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ,
When it pleases You, evil-mindedness departs,
ਗਿਆਨ ਰਤਨੁ; ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਆਇ ॥
giaan ratan; man vasai aae |
ਅਤੇ ਬ੍ਰਹਿਮ ਵੀਚਾਰ ਦਾ ਹੀਰਾ ਆ ਕੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਟਿੱਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
and the jewel of spiritual wisdom comes to dwell in the mind.
ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਤਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ॥
nadar kare taa satigur milai |
ਜੇਕਰ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਧਾਰੇ, ਤਦ ਆਦਮੀ ਸਚੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੈ,
When the Lord bestows His Glance of Grace, then one comes to meet the True Guru.
ਪ੍ਰਣਵਤਿ ਨਾਨਕੁ; ਭਵਜਲੁ ਤਰੈ ॥੪॥੧੮॥
pranavat naanak; bhavajal tarai |4|18|
ਅਤੇ ਭਿਆਨਕ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਸੁੰਮਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਾਰਥਨਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
Prays Nanak, carry us across the terrifying world-ocean. ||4||18||

ਦੁਧ ਬਿਨੁ ਧੇਨੁ. ਪੰਖ ਬਿਨੁ ਪੰਖੀ; ਜਲ ਬਿਨੁ. ਉਤਭੁਜ ਕਾਮਿ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
dudh bin dhen. pankh bin pankhee; jal bin. utabhuj kaam naahee |
ਦੁਧ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾਂ ਗਾਂ, ਪਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਗੈਰ ਪਰਿੰਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਪਾਣੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਗੈਰ ਬਨਾਸਪਤੀ ਕਿਸੇ ਕੰਮ ਨਹੀਂ।
A cow without milk; a bird without wings; a garden without water - totally useless!
ਕਿਆ ਸੁਲਤਾਨੁ. ਸਲਾਮ ਵਿਹੂਣਾ; ਅੰਧੀ ਕੋਠੀ. ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਾਹੀ ॥੧॥
kiaa sulataan. salaam vihoonaa; andhee kotthee. teraa naam naahee |1|
ਪਰਣਾਮ ਦੇ ਬਾਝੋਂ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਕੀ ਹੈ? ਏਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਬਾਝੋਂ ਆਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਕੋਠੜੀ ਅਨ੍ਹੇਰ ਘੁੱਪ ਹੈ।
What is an emperor, without respect? The chamber of the soul is so dark, without the Name of the Lord. ||1||
ਕੀ ਵਿਸਰਹਿ; ਦੁਖੁ ਬਹੁਤਾ ਲਾਗੈ ॥
kee visareh; dukh bahutaa laagai |
ਮੈਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਕਿਉਂ ਭੁਲਾਵਾਂ, ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਬਾਝੋਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਬਹੁਤ ਤਕਲੀਫ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ?
How could I ever forget You? It would be so painful!
ਦੁਖੁ ਲਾਗੈ; ਤੂੰ ਵਿਸਰੁ ਨਾਹੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
dukh laagai; toon visar naahee |1| rahaau |
ਮੇਰੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਨਾਂ ਵਿਸਾਰ, ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਕਸ਼ਟ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।
I would suffer such pain - no, I shall not forget You! ||1||Pause||
ਅਖੀ ਅੰਧੁ. ਜੀਭ ਰਸੁ ਨਾਹੀ; ਕੰਨੀ. ਪਵਣੁ ਨ ਵਾਜੈ ॥
akhee andh. jeebh ras naahee; kanee. pavan na vaajai |
ਆਦਮੀ ਦੇ ਨੇਤ੍ਰ ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜੀਭ ਦਾ ਸੁਆਦ ਮਾਰਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਕੰਨ ਅਵਾਜ਼ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੁਣਦੇ।
The eyes grow blind, the tongue does not taste, and the ears do not hear any sound.
ਚਰਣੀ ਚਲੈ. ਪਜੂਤਾ ਆਗੈ; ਵਿਣੁ ਸੇਵਾ. ਫਲ ਲਾਗੇ ॥੨॥

ਕਿਸੇ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੋਂ ਆਸਰਾ ਦਿੱਤਿਆਂ ਹੋਇਆਂ ਹੀ, ਉਹ ਪੈਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਤੁਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਬਗੈਰ ਟਹਿਲ ਸੇਵਾ ਦੇ ਐਹੋ ਜੇਹੇ ਮੇਵੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਨੂੰ ਲਗਦੇ ਹਨ।
He walks on his feet only when supported by someone else; without serving the Lord, such are the fruits of life. ||2||
ਅਖਰ ਬਿਰਖ ਬਾਗ, ਭੁਇ ਚੋਖੀ; ਸਿੰਚਿਤ ਭਾਉ ਕਰੇਹੀ ॥
akhar birakh baag, bhue chokhee; sinchit bhaau karehee |
ਆਪਣੇ ਦਿਲ ਦੀ ਬਗੀਚੀ ਦੇ ਖੁੱਲ੍ਹੇ ਖੇਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਦਾ ਪੌਦਾ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ, ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਨਾਲ ਸਿੰਝ।
The Word is the tree; the garden of the heart is the farm; tend it, and irrigate it with the Lord's Love.
ਸਭਨਾ ਫਲੁ ਲਾਗੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਏਕੋ; ਬਿਨੁ ਕਰਮਾ. ਕੈਸੇ ਲੇਹੀ ॥੩॥
sabhanaa fal laagai naam eko; bin karamaa. kaise lehee |3|
ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਪੌਦਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਕ ਹਰੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਮੇਵਾ ਲੱਗਿਆ ਹੈ। ਉਸ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਬਿਨਾਂ ਬੰਦਾ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ?
All these trees bear the fruit of the Name of the One Lord; but without the karma of good actions, how can anyone obtain it? ||3||
ਜੇਤੇ ਜੀਅ. ਤੇਤੇ ਸਭਿ ਤੇਰੇ; ਵਿਣੁ ਸੇਵਾ. ਫਲੁ ਕਿਸੈ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
jete jeea. tete sabh tere; vin sevaa. fal kisai naahee |
ਜਿੰਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਧਾਰੀ ਹਨ, ਉੱਨੇ ਹੀ ਤੈਡੇਂ ਹਨ। ਘਾਲ ਸੇਵਾ ਦੇ ਬਾਝੋਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਫਲ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ।
As many living beings are there are, they are all Yours. Without selfless service, no one obtains any reward.
ਦੁਖੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਭਾਣਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੋਵੈ; ਵਿਣੁ ਨਾਵੈ. ਜੀਉ ਰਹੈ ਨਾਹੀ ॥੪॥
dukh sukh bhaanaa teraa hovai; vin naavai. jeeo rahai naahee |4|
ਗ਼ਮੀ ਤੇ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਤੇਰੀ ਰਜਾ ਅੰਦਰ ਹੈ। ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਬਾਝੋਂ ਜੀਵਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ।
Pain and pleasure come by Your Will; without the Name, the soul does not even exist. ||4||
ਮਤਿ ਵਿਚਿ ਮਰਣੁ. ਜੀਵਣੁ ਹੋਰੁ ਕੈਸਾ; ਜਾ ਜੀਵਾ ਤਾਂ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
mat vich maran. jeevan hor kaisaa; jaa jeevaa taan jugat naahee |
ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਮਰਨਾ ਹੀ ਸੱਚੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਹੈ। ਦੂਜੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਜੀਵਨ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ? ਜੇਕਰ ਮੈਂ ਹੋਰਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਜੀਉਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਤਦ ਉਹ ਦਰੁਸਤ ਤਰੀਕਾ ਨਹੀਂ।
To die in the Teachings is to live. Otherwise, what is life? That is not the way.
