baabaa jugataa jeeo, jugah jug jogee; param tant meh jogan |
ਹੇ ਪਿਤਾ, ਐਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਜੁੜੀ ਹੋਈ ਆਤਮਾ, ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਯੁਗਾਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਯੋਗੀ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਮਹਾਨ ਤੱਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
O father, the soul which is united in union as a Yogi, remains united in the supreme essence throughout the ages.
ਅੰਮਿ੍ਰਤੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਪਾਇਆ; ਗਿਆਨ ਕਾਇਆ ਰਸ ਭੋਗੰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸੁਧਾ-ਸਰੂਪ ਨਾਮ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਦੇਹਿ ਬ੍ਰਹਿਮ ਗਿਆਨ ਦਾ ਅਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦੀ ਹੈ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।
One who has obtained the Ambrosial Naam, the Name of the Immaculate Lord - his body enjoys the pleasure of spiritual wisdom. ||1||Pause||
ਸਿਵ ਨਗਰੀ ਮਹਿ, ਆਸਣਿ ਬੈਸਉ; ਕਲਪ ਤਿਆਗੀ ਬਾਦੰ ॥
siv nagaree meh, aasan baisau; kalap tiaagee baadan |
ਉਹ ਖ਼ਾਹਿਸ਼ਾਂ ਤੇ ਬਖੇੜੇ ਛੱਡ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ (ਆਤਮ-ਮੰਡਲ) ਅੰਦਰ ਧਿਆਨ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਬੈਠਦਾ ਹੈ।
In the Lord's City, he sits in his Yogic posture, and he forsakes his desires and conflicts.
ਸਿੰਙੀ ਸਬਦੁ. ਸਦਾ ਧੁਨਿ ਸੋਹੈ; ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਨਾਦੰ ॥੨॥

ਸਿੰਙੀ ਦੀ ਅਵਾਜ਼ ਤੋਂ ਇਕ ਅਨੰਤ ਤੇ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਲੈ ਉਤਪੰਨ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਰਾਤ ਦਿਨ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਰੱਬੀ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਨਾਲ ਪਰੀ ਪੂਰਨ ਰਖਦੀ ਹੈ।
The sound of the horn ever rings out its beautiful melody, and day and night, he is filled with the sound current of the Naad. ||2||
ਪਤੁ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ. ਗਿਆਨ ਮਤਿ. ਡੰਡਾ; ਵਰਤਮਾਨ ਬਿਭੂਤੰ ॥

ਸਿਮਰਨ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਲਾ ਤੇ ਬ੍ਰਹਿਮ-ਵੀਚਾਰ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸੰਪ੍ਰਦਾਈ ਸੋਟਾ ਹੈ। ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੱਸਣਾ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸੁਆਹ ਹੈ।
My cup is reflective meditation, and spiritual wisdom is my walking stick; to dwell in the Lord's Presence is the ashes I apply to my body.
ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਿ. ਰਹਰਾਸਿ ਹਮਾਰੀ; ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪੰਥੁ ਅਤੀਤੰ ॥੩॥

ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਲਾਹ ਮੇਰੀ ਰਹੁ-ਰੀਤੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਤਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਰਸਤਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਮਜ਼ਹਬ ਹੈ।
The Praise of the Lord is my occupation; and to live as Gurmukh is my pure religion. ||3||
ਸਗਲੀ ਜੋਤਿ, ਹਮਾਰੀ ਸੰਮਿਆ; ਨਾਨਾ ਵਰਨ ਅਨੇਕੰ ॥

ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦਾ ਨੂਰ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਵੇਖਣਾ, ਮੇਰੀ ਬਾਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਟਿਕਟਿਕੀ (ਬੈਰਾਗਣ) ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਦੇ ਮੁਖਤਲਿਫ ਤੇ ਘਣੇਰੇ ਰੰਗ ਹਨ।
My arm-rest is to see the Lord's Light in all, although their forms and colors are so numerous.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ. ਸੁਣਿ ਭਰਥਰਿ ਜੋਗੀ; ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਲਿਵ ਏਕੰ ॥੪॥੩॥੩੭॥

ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ, ਹੇ ਭਰਥਰੀਖ ਯੋਗੀ! ਤੂੰ ਸ੍ਰਵਣ ਕਰ। ਮੈਂ ਕੇਵਲ ਸ਼੍ਰੋਮਣੀ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ।

ਆਸਾ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ।
Aasaa, First Mehl:
ਗੁੜੁ ਕਰਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ. ਧਿਆਨੁ ਕਰਿ ਧਾਵੈ; ਕਰਿ ਕਰਣੀ ਕਸੁ ਪਾਈਐ ॥

ਤੂੰ ਬ੍ਰਹਿਮ-ਬੋਧ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਸੀਰਾ ਬਣਾ ਅਤੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਨੂੰ ਮਹੂਏ ਦੇ ਫੁੱਲ ਬਣਾ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਚੰਗੇ ਅਮਲਾਂ ਦੀ ਕਮਾਈ ਨੂੰ ਖ਼ਮੀਰ ਉਠਾਉਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਸੱਕ ਵਜੋਂ ਪਾ।
Make spiritual wisdom your molasses, and meditation your scented flowers; let good deeds be the herbs.
ਭਾਠੀ ਭਵਨੁ. ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਕਾ ਪੋਚਾ; ਇਤੁ ਰਸਿ ਅਮਿਉ ਚੁਆਈਐ ॥੧॥

ਈਮਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਭੱਠੀ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਲੇਪ ਬਣਾ। ਇਸ ਤਰੀਕੇ ਨਾਲ ਮਿੱਠਾ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਕਸ਼ੀਦ ਕੀਤਾ (ਕੱਢਿਆ) ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
Let devotional faith be the distilling fire, and your love the ceramic cup. Thus the sweet nectar of life is distilled. ||1||
ਬਾਬਾ. ਮਨੁ ਮਤਵਾਰੋ, ਨਾਮ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਵੈ; ਸਹਜ ਰੰਗ ਰਚਿ ਰਹਿਆ ॥
baabaa. man matavaaro, naam ras peevai; sehaj rang rach rahiaa |
ਹੇ ਬਜੁਰਗਵਾਰ! ਨਾਮ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਨ ਕਰਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਮਨੂਆ ਖੀਵਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੁਖੈਨ ਹੀ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
O Baba, the mind is intoxicated with the Naam, drinking in its Nectar. It remains absorbed in the Lord's Love.
ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਬਨੀ. ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੀ; ਸਬਦੁ ਅਨਾਹਦ ਗਹਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਨਾਲ ਬਿਰਤੀ ਜੋੜਣ ਅਤੇ ਬੈਕੁੰਠੀ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਸੁਣਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ, ਰਾਤ ਦਿਨ ਸਫਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।
Night and day, remaining attached to the Love of the Lord, the celestial music of the Shabad resounds. ||1||Pause||
ਪੂਰਾ ਸਾਚੁ. ਪਿਆਲਾ ਸਹਜੇ; ਤਿਸਹਿ ਪੀਆਏ, ਜਾ ਕਉ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ॥
pooraa saach. piaalaa sahaje; tiseh peeae, jaa kau nadar kare |
ਇਹ ਸੱਚ ਦਾ ਕਟੋਰਾ, ਪੂਰਨ ਪੁਰਖ, ਸੁਭਾਵਕ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪੀਣ ਲਈ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਉੱਤੇ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਿਗ੍ਹਾ ਧਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
The Perfect Lord naturally gives the cup of Truth, to the one upon whom He casts His Glance of Grace.
ਅੰਮਿ੍ਰਤ ਕਾ ਵਾਪਾਰੀ ਹੋਵੈ; ਕਿਆ ਮਦਿ ਛੂਛੈ ਭਾਉ ਧਰੇ ॥੨॥
amrit kaa vaapaaree hovai; kiaa mad chhoochhai bhaau dhare |2|
ਜੋ ਅਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਦਾ ਵਣਜਾਰਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਤੁਛ ਸ਼ਰਾਬ ਨੂੰ ਕਾਹਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ?
One who trades in this Nectar - how could he ever love the wine of the world? ||2||
ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸਾਖੀ. ਅੰਮਿ੍ਰਤ ਬਾਣੀ; ਪੀਵਤ ਹੀ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ਭਇਆ ॥

ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਕਲਾਮ ਸੁਧਾ-ਰੂਪ ਬਚਨ ਬਿਲਾਸ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਸਾਰ ਬੰਦਾ (ਹਰੀ-ਦਰ) ਕਬੂਲ ਪੈ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
The Teachings of the Guru, the Ambrosial Bani - drinking them in, one becomes acceptable and renowned.
ਦਰ ਦਰਸਨ ਕਾ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਹੋਵੈ; ਮੁਕਤਿ ਬੈਕੁੰਠੈ ਕਰੈ ਕਿਆ ॥੩॥
dar darasan kaa preetam hovai; mukat baikuntthai karai kiaa |3|
ਜੋ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੇ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਦੀਦਾਰ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਵਾਨ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮੋਖਸ਼ ਅਤੇ ਸੁਰਗ ਨੂੰ ਕੀ ਕਰੇ?
Unto the one who loves the Lord's Court, and the Blessed Vision of His Darshan, of what use is liberation or paradise? ||3||
ਸਿਫਤੀ ਰਤਾ. ਸਦ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ; ਜੂਐ ਜਨਮੁ ਨ ਹਾਰੈ ॥
sifatee rataa. sad bairaagee; jooai janam na haarai |
ਜੋ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸ਼ਲਾਘਾ ਨਾਲ ਰੰਗੀਜਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਦੀਵ ਹੀ ਤਿਆਗੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਜੂਏ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਾਰਦਾ।
Imbued with the Lord's Praises, one is forever a Bairaagee, a renunciate, and one's life is not lost in the gamble.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ. ਸੁਣਿ ਭਰਥਰਿ ਜੋਗੀ; ਖੀਵਾ ਅੰਮਿ੍ਰਤ ਧਾਰੈ ॥੪॥੪॥੩੮॥

ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ: ਕੰਨ ਕਰ ਹੇ ਪਰਬਰੀ ਜੋਗੀ! ਮੈਂ ਅਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਦੀ ਨਦੀ ਨਾਲ ਮਤਵਾਲਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹਾਂ।
Says Nanak, listen, O Bharthari Yogi: drink in the intoxicating nectar of the Lord. ||4||4||38||

ਖੁਰਾਸਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਫ਼ਤਹ ਕਰਕੇ ਬਾਬਰ ਨੇ ਹਿੰਦੁਸਤਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਭੈ-ਭੀਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ।
Having attacked Khuraasaan, Baabar terrified Hindustan.
ਆਪੈ. ਦੋਸੁ ਨ ਦੇਈ ਕਰਤਾ; ਜਮੁ ਕਰਿ ਮੁਗਲੁ ਚੜਾਇਆ ॥

ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਉੱਤੇ ਇਲਜ਼ਾਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਮੁਗਲ ਨੂੰ ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਫ਼ਰਿਸ਼ਤਾ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ ਘੱਲਿਆ ਹੈ।
The Creator Himself does not take the blame, but has sent the Mugal as the messenger of death.
ਏਤੀ ਮਾਰ ਪਈ ਕਰਲਾਣੇ; ਤੈਂ. ਕੀ ਦਰਦੁ ਨ ਆਇਆ ॥੧॥

ਐਨੀ ਕੁੱਟ ਪਈ ਕਿ ਲੋਕੀਂ ਕੁਰਲਾ ਉੱਠੇ। ਕੀ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਹੇ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ! ਤਰਸ ਨਾਂ ਆਇਆ?
There was so much slaughter that the people screamed. Didn't You feel compassion, Lord? ||1||
ਕਰਤਾ; ਤੂੰ ਸਭਨਾ ਕਾ ਸੋਈ ॥

ਤੂੰ ਹੇ ਰਚਣਹਾਰ! ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਇੱਕੋ ਜੇਹਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈਂ।
O Creator Lord, You are the Master of all.
ਜੇ ਸਕਤਾ ਸਕਤੇ ਕਉ ਮਾਰੇ; ਤਾ ਮਨਿ ਰੋਸੁ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
je sakataa sakate kau maare; taa man ros na hoee |1| rahaau |
ਜੇਕਰ ਇੱਕ ਬਲਵਾਨ ਹੋਰਸ ਬਲਵਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰੇ ਤਦ ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਗੁੱਸਾ-ਗਿਲਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।
If some powerful man strikes out against another man, then no one feels any grief in their mind. ||1||Pause||
ਸਕਤਾ ਸੀਹੁ. ਮਾਰੇ ਪੈ ਵਗੈ; ਖਸਮੈ. ਸਾ ਪੁਰਸਾਈ ॥
sakataa seehu. maare pai vagai; khasamai. saa purasaaee |
ਜੇਕਰ ਇੱਕ ਜੋਰਦਾਰ ਸ਼ੇਰ ਚੋਣੇ ਨੂੰ ਪੈ ਜਾਏ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰੇ ਤਦ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਤੋਂ ਪੁੱਛ ਗਿੱਛ ਹੋਣੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ। ਜੇ ਪੁਰਸਾਈ ਨੂੰ ਪੁਰਸ਼ਿਸ਼ (ਫਾਰਸੀ) ਤੋਂ ਮੰਨਿਆ ਜਾਵੇ ਤਾ ਅਰਥ "ਪੁਛ-ਗਿਛ" ਹੀ ਹੋਣਗੇ।
But if a powerful tiger attacks a flock of sheep and kills them, then its master must answer for it.
ਰਤਨ ਵਿਗਾੜਿ ਵਿਗੋਏ ਕੁਤਂੀ; ਮੁਇਆ. ਸਾਰ ਨ ਕਾਈ ॥
ratan vigaarr vigoe kutanee; mueaa. saar na kaaee |
ਕੁੱਤਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਅਮੋਲਕ ਮੁਲਕ ਨੂੰ ਖਰਾਬ ਕਰ ਸੁਟਿਆ ਹੈ, ਮੋਇਆ ਹੋਇਆਂ ਦੀ ਕੋਈ ਬਾਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੁੱਛਦਾ।
This priceless country has been laid waste and defiled by dogs, and no one pays any attention to the dead.
ਆਪੇ ਜੋੜਿ. ਵਿਛੋੜੇ ਆਪੇ; ਵੇਖੁ ਤੇਰੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥੨॥
aape jorr. vichhorre aape; vekh teree vaddiaaee |2|
ਹੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ! ਤੂੰ ਖੁਦ ਮਿਲਾਉਂਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਖੁਦ ਹੀ ਵਿਛੋੜਦਾ ਹੈਂ। ਤੱਕੋ! ਇਹ ਹੈ ਤੈਡੀਂ ਬਜੁਰਗੀ।
You Yourself unite, and You Yourself separate; I gaze upon Your Glorious Greatness. ||2||
ਜੇ ਕੋ ਨਾਉ ਧਰਾਏ ਵਡਾ; ਸਾਦ ਕਰੇ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਣੇ ॥
je ko naau dharaae vaddaa; saad kare man bhaane |
ਜੇਕਰ ਕੋਈ ਜਣਾ ਆਪਣਾ ਉੱਚਾ ਨਾਮ ਰਖਵਾ ਲਵੇ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਿੱਤ-ਭਾਉਂਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਆਦ ਮਾਣੇ,
One may give himself a great name, and revel in the pleasures of the mind,
ਖਸਮੈ ਨਦਰੀ ਕੀੜਾ ਆਵੈ; ਜੇਤੇ ਚੁਗੈ ਦਾਣੇ ॥
khasamai nadaree keerraa aavai; jete chugai daane |
ਸਾਰੇ ਦਾਣੇ ਚੁਣਕੇ ਚੁਗਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ, ਉਹ ਮਾਲਕ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੇਵਲ ਇਕ ਕਿਰਮ ਹੈ।
but in the Eyes of the Lord and Master, he is just a worm, for all the corn that he eats.
ਮਰਿ ਮਰਿ ਜੀਵੈ. ਤਾ ਕਿਛੁ ਪਾਏ; ਨਾਨਕ. ਨਾਮੁ ਵਖਾਣੇ ॥੩॥੫॥੩੯॥

ਜੇਕਰ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਜੀਉਂਦੇ ਜੀ ਹਊਮੇ-ਭਾਵ ਤੋਂ ਮਰਿਆ ਰਹੇ, ਕੇਵਲ ਤਦ ਹੀ ਉਹ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਉਚਾਰਨ ਕਰਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਕੁੱਝ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

ik oankaar satigur prasaad |
ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਕੇਵਲ ਇਕ ਹੈ, ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਦਇਆ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਉਹ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਹਰਿ ਦਰਸਨੁ; ਪਾਵੈ ਵਡਭਾਗਿ ॥
har darasan; paavai vaddabhaag |
ਸਾਈਂ ਦਾ ਦੀਦਾਰ ਭਾਰੇ ਚੰਗੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
The Blessed Vision of the Lord's Darshan is obtained by great good fortune.
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ; ਸਚੈ ਬੈਰਾਗਿ ॥

ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਸੱਚੀ ਉਪਰਾਮਤਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।

ਖਟੁ ਦਰਸਨੁ; ਵਰਤੈ ਵਰਤਾਰਾ ॥
