ਵਿਸ਼ਾਲਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਹਾਂ ਵਿਸ਼ਾਲ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਵੱਡੇ ਨਸੀਬਾਂ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
The Great Lord is obtained by great good destiny.
ਨਾਨਕ; ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦਿਵਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੪॥੫੬॥

ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਰਾਹੀਂ, ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ, ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦਾਤ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ।
O Nanak, the Gurmukh is blessed with the Naam. ||4||4||56||

ਆਸਾ ਚੌਥੀ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ।
Aasaa, Fourth Mehl:
ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਾ; ਗੁਣ ਬੋਲੀ ਬਾਣੀ ॥
gun gaavaa; gun bolee baanee |
ਮੈਂ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਜੱਸ ਗਾਉਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਜੱਸ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਦੇ ਜ਼ਰੀਏ ਉਚਾਰਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
I sing His Glorious Praises, and through the Word of His Bani, I speak His Glorious Praises.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ; ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਆਖਿ ਵਖਾਣੀ ॥੧॥

ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਰਾਹੀਂ, ਮੈਂ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀਆਂ ਸ਼੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟਤਾਈਆਂ ਉਚਾਰਨ ਤੇ ਵਰਨਣ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
As Gurmukh, I chant and recite the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||1||
ਜਪਿ ਜਪਿ ਨਾਮੁ; ਮਨਿ ਭਇਆ ਅਨੰਦਾ ॥
jap jap naam; man bheaa anandaa |
ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਤੇ ਅਰਾਧਨ ਕਰਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਆ ਗਈ ਹੈ।
Chanting and meditating on the Naam, my mind becomes blissful.
ਸਤਿ. ਸਤਿ. ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦਿੜਾਇਆ; ਰਸਿ ਗਾਏ, ਗੁਣ ਪਰਮਾਨੰਦਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

ਸੱਚੇ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦਾ ਸੱਚਾ ਨਾਮ, ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਪੱਕਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸੁਆਦ ਨਾਲ ਮੈਂ ਪਰਮ ਪਰਸੰਨਤਾ ਸਰੂਪ ਦੀਆਂ ਬਜ਼ੁਰਗੀਆਂ ਗਾਇਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।
The True Guru has implanted the True Name of the True Lord within me; I sing His Glorious Praises, and taste the supreme ecstasy. ||1||Pause||
ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ; ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਲੋਗਾ ॥
har gun gaavai; har jan logaa |
ਜਿਹੜੇ ਬੰਦੇ, ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਮਾਸ਼ਤੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕੀਰਤੀ ਗਾਇਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
The humble servants of the Lord sing the Lord's Glorious Praises.
ਵਡੈ ਭਾਗਿ; ਪਾਏ. ਹਰਿ ਨਿਰਜੋਗਾ ॥੨॥
vaddai bhaag; paae. har nirajogaa |2|
ਭਾਰੀ ਕਿਸਮਤ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਨਿਰਲੇਖ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
By great good fortune, the detached, absolute Lord is obtained. ||2||
ਗੁਣ ਵਿਹੂਣ; ਮਾਇਆ ਮਲੁ ਧਾਰੀ ॥
gun vihoon; maaeaa mal dhaaree |
ਨੇਕੀ ਤੋਂ ਸੱਖਣੇ ਦੌਲਤਮੰਦ ਗਲੀਜ਼ ਹਨ।
Those without virtue are stained by Maya's filth.
ਵਿਣੁ ਗੁਣ; ਜਨਮਿ ਮੁਏ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀ ॥੩॥
vin gun; janam mue ahankaaree |3|
ਨੇਕੀ-ਹੀਣ ਮਗਰੂਰ ਪੁਰਸ਼ ਆਵਾਗਉਣ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
Lacking virtue, the egotistical die, and suffer reincarnation. ||3||
ਸਰੀਰਿ ਸਰੋਵਰਿ; ਗੁਣ ਪਰਗਟਿ ਕੀਏ ॥

ਦੇਹਿ ਦਾ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਨੇਕੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਮੋਤੀ ਉਗਾਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
The ocean of the body yields pearls of virtue.
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ; ਮਥਿ ਤਤੁ ਕਢੀਏ ॥੪॥੫॥੫੭॥

ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ, ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਰਿੜਕ ਕੇ ਜੌਹਰ ਬਾਹਰ ਕੱਢ ਲਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
O Nanak, the Gurmukh churns this ocean, and discovers this essence. ||4||5||57||

Aasaa, Fourth Mehl:
ਨਾਮੁ ਸੁਣੀ; ਨਾਮੋ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਵੈ ॥
naam sunee; naamo man bhaavai |
ਨਾਮ ਮੈਂ ਸ੍ਰਵਣ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ।
I listen to the Naam, the Name of the Lord; the Naam is pleasing to my mind.
ਵਡੈ ਭਾਗਿ; ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੧॥
vaddai bhaag; guramukh har paavai |1|
ਚੰਗੀ ਕਿਸਮਤ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰੀ ਹਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਪਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
By great good fortune, the Gurmukh obtains the Lord. ||1||
ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਹੁ; ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਰਗਾਸਾ ॥
naam japahu; guramukh paragaasaa |
ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਅਰਾਧਨ ਕਰ ਜੋ ਗੁਣਾ ਵਾਲੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਪਰਗਟ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
Chant the Naam, as Gurmukh, and be exalted.
ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ. ਮੈ ਧਰ ਨਹੀ ਕਾਈ; ਨਾਮੁ ਰਵਿਆ ਸਭ ਸਾਸ ਗਿਰਾਸਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
naam binaa. mai dhar nahee kaaee; naam raviaa sabh saas giraasaa |1| rahaau |
ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਬਗੈਰ ਮੇਰਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਆਸਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ। ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਆਸਾਂ ਤੇ ਬੁਰਕੀਆਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਉਣਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।
Without the Naam, I have no other support; the Naam is woven into all my breaths and morsels of food. ||1||Pause||
ਨਾਮੈ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਸੁਨੀ; ਮਨਿ ਭਾਈ ॥
naamai surat sunee; man bhaaee |
ਮੈਂ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸਿਰਮਨ ਸ੍ਰਵਣ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਇਹ ਮੇਰੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਨੂੰ ਭਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
The Naam illuminates my mind; listening to it, my mind is pleased.
ਜੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੁਨਾਵੈ; ਸੋ ਮੇਰਾ ਮੀਤੁ ਸਖਾਈ ॥੨॥
jo naam sunaavai; so meraa meet sakhaaee |2|
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਨਾਮ ਮੁਤਅਲਕ ਦੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕੇਵਲ ਓਹੀ ਮੈਡਾਂਮਿਤ੍ਰ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਥੀ ਹੈ।
One who speaks the Naam - he alone is my friend and companion. ||2||
ਨਾਮਹੀਣ; ਗਏ ਮੂੜ ਨੰਗਾ ॥
naamaheen; ge moorr nangaa |
ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਬਿਨਾਂ ਮੂਰਖ ਨੰਗੇ ਟੁਰ ਵੰਞਦੇ ਹਨ।
Without the Naam, the fools depart naked.
ਪਚਿ ਪਚਿ ਮੁਏ; ਬਿਖੁ ਦੇਖਿ ਪਤੰਗਾ ॥੩॥
pach pach mue; bikh dekh patangaa |3|
ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਹਿਰ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਪਰਵਾਨੇ ਦੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਸੜਮੱਚ ਕੇ ਮਰ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
They burn away to death, chasing the poison of Maya, like the moth chasing the flame. ||3||
ਆਪੇ ਥਾਪੇ; ਥਾਪਿ ਉਥਾਪੇ ॥
aape thaape; thaap uthaape |
ਸੁਆਮੀ ਖੁਦ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਖੁਦ ਹੀ ਨਾਸ ਕਰ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
He Himself establishes, and, having established, disestablishes.
ਨਾਨਕ; ਨਾਮੁ ਦੇਵੈ ਹਰਿ ਆਪੇ ॥੪॥੬॥੫੮॥

ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰੀ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਮ ਬਖਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ।
O Nanak, the Lord Himself bestows the Naam. ||4||6||58||

ਮੁਖੀ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੀ ਵਲ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਫੁਲਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ।
The vine of the Lord's Name, Har, Har, has taken root in the Gurmukh.
ਫਲ ਲਾਗੇ; ਹਰਿ ਰਸਕ ਰਸਾਈ ॥੧॥
fal laage; har rasak rasaaee |1|
ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਮੇਵਾ ਲੱਗਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਅਨੰਦ ਲੈਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ।
It bears the fruit of the Lord; its taste is so tasty! ||1||
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਿ; ਅਨਤ ਤਰੰਗਾ ॥
har har naam jap; anat tarangaa |
ਤੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ਰ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰ, ਜਿਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਦੀਆਂ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਲਹਿਰਾਂ ਹਨ।
Chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, in endless waves of joy.
ਜਪਿ ਜਪਿ ਨਾਮੁ. ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ; ਮਾਰਿਆ ਕਾਲੁ. ਜਮਕੰਕਰ ਭੁਇਅੰਗਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jap jap naam. guramat saalaahee; maariaa kaal. jamakankar bhueiangaa |1| rahaau |
ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਤਾਬੇ ਤੂੰ ਹਰੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੇ ਜੱਸ ਦਾ ਉਚਾਰਨ ਕਰ, ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਤੂੰ ਮੌਤ ਦੇ ਨੀਚ ਫ਼ਰਿਸ਼ਤੇ ਦੇ ਸਰੂਪ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਲਵੇਗਾ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।
Chant and repeat the Naam; through the Guru's Teachings praise the Lord, and slay the horrible serpent of the Messenger of Death. ||1||Pause||
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ; ਗੁਰ ਮਹਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਰਖਾਈ ॥
har har; gur meh bhagat rakhaaee |
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ਵਰ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਮਈ ਸੇਵਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਅੰਦਰ ਅਸਥਾਪਨ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ।
The Lord has implanted His devotional worship in the Guru.
ਗੁਰੁ ਤੁਠਾ ਸਿਖ ਦੇਵੈ; ਮੇਰੇ ਭਾਈ ॥੨॥
gur tutthaa sikh devai; mere bhaaee |2|
ਜੇਕਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਣ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮੁਰੀਦ ਨੂੰ ਬਖਸ਼ਦੇ ਹਨ, ਹੇ ਮੈਡੇ ਵੀਰ।
When the Guru is pleased, He bestows it upon His Sikh, O my siblings of Destiny. ||2||
ਹਉਮੈ ਕਰਮ; ਕਿਛੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਣੈ ॥
haumai karam; kichh bidh nahee jaanai |
ਜੋ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਰਸਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦਾ,
One who acts in ego, knows nothing about the Way.
ਜਿਉ ਕੁੰਚਰੁ ਨਾਇ; ਖਾਕੁ ਸਿਰਿ ਛਾਣੈ ॥੩॥
jiau kunchar naae; khaak sir chhaanai |3|
ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਨਹਾ ਕੇ ਹਾਥੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਮੂੰਡ ਤੇ ਖੇਹ ਪਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
He acts like an elephant, who takes a bath, and then throws dust on his head. ||3||
ਜੇ ਵਡ ਭਾਗ ਹੋਵਹਿ; ਵਡ ਊਚੇ ॥
je vadd bhaag hoveh; vadd aooche |
ਜੇਕਰ ਆਦਮੀ ਦੀ ਕਿਸਮਤ ਸ਼੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਅਤੇ ਖਰੀ ਬੁਲੰਦ ਹੋਵੇ,
If one's destiny is great and exalted,
ਨਾਨਕ; ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਹਿ ਸਚਿ ਸੂਚੇ ॥੪॥੭॥੫੯॥

ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਸੱਚੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਉਚਾਰਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
O Nanak, one chants the Naam, the Name of the Immaculate, True Lord. ||4||7||59||

My mind suffers hunger for the Name of the Lord, Har, Har.
ਨਾਮਿ ਸੁਨਿਐ. ਮਨੁ ਤਿ੍ਰਪਤੈ; ਮੇਰੇ ਭਾਈ ॥੧॥
naam suniai. man tripatai; mere bhaaee |1|
ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਸ੍ਰਵਣ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੂਆਂ ਰੱਜ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਹੇ ਵੀਰ।
Hearing the Naam, my mind is satisfied, O my Siblings of Destiny. ||1||
ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਹੁ; ਮੇਰੇ ਗੁਰਸਿਖ ਮੀਤਾ ॥
naam japahu; mere gurasikh meetaa |
ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਅਰਾਧਨ ਕਰੋ, ਹੇ ਮੈਡੇਂ ਗੁਰ-ਸਿੱਖ ਮਿੱਤਰੋ!
Chant the Naam, O my friends, O GurSikhs.

ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਉਚਾਰਨ ਕਰੋ, ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਠੰਢ-ਚੈਨ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਕਰੋ ਅਤੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਿਖਿਆ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਤੇ ਦਿਲ ਅੰਦਰ ਟਿਕਾਓ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।
Chant the Naam, and through the Naam, obtain peace; through the Guru's Teachings, enshrine the Naam in your heart and mind. ||1||Pause||
ਨਾਮੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੁਣੀ; ਮਨੁ ਸਰਸਾ ॥

ਨਾਮ-ਸਰੂਪ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸ੍ਰਵਣ ਕਰਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਚਿੱਤ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।
Hearing the Naam, the Name of the Lord, the mind is in bliss.
ਨਾਮੁ ਲਾਹਾ ਲੈ; ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਬਿਗਸਾ ॥੨॥
naam laahaa lai; guramat bigasaa |2|
ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਤਾਬੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਲਾਭ ਕਮਾ ਕੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਆਤਮਾ ਪ੍ਰਫੁੱਲਤ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਹੈ।
Reaping the profit of the Naam, through the Guru's Teachings, my soul has blossomed forth. ||2||
ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ; ਕੁਸਟੀ ਮੋਹ ਅੰਧਾ ॥
naam binaa; kusattee moh andhaa |
ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਬਗੈਰ, ਆਦਮੀ ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ਮਮਤਾ ਦੇ ਜਰੀਏ ਕੌੜ੍ਹੀ ਅਤੇ ਅੰਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
Without the Naam, the mortal is a leper, blinded by emotional attachment.
ਸਭ ਨਿਹਫਲ ਕਰਮ ਕੀਏ; ਦੁਖੁ ਧੰਧਾ ॥੩॥
sabh nihafal karam kee; dukh dhandhaa |3|
ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸਾਰੇ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਕਾਰਨ ਨਿਸਫਲ ਅਤੇ ਦੁਖਦਾਇਕ ਵਿਹਾਰ ਹੈ।
All his actions are fruitless; they lead only to painful entanglements. ||3||
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ; ਜਪੈ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ॥
har har har jas; japai vaddabhaagee |
ਬਹੁਤ ਚੰਗੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਮਾਲਕ ਦੀ ਕੀਰਤੀ ਉਚਾਰਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
The very fortunate ones chant the Praises of the Lord, Har, Har, Har.
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ; ਨਾਮਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੀ ॥੪॥੮॥੬੦॥
naanak guramat; naam liv laagee |4|8|60|
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਤਾਬੇ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਲੱਗਦੀ ਹੈ।
O Nanak, through the Guru's Teachings, one embraces love for the Naam. ||4||8||60||
