ਰਾਗ ਆਸਾ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ।

Aasaa, First Mehl:

ਅਕਲ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਵਾਜਾ ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਜੋੜੀ ਬਣਾ।

Make your intellect your instrument, and love your tambourine;

ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਚਿੱਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਤੇ ਸਦੀਵੀ ਉਮਾਹ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

thus bliss and lasting pleasure shall be produced in your mind.

ਇਹ ਹੈ ਪ੍ਰੇਮਮਈ ਸੇਵਾ ਅਤੇ ਏਹੀ ਤਪੱਸਿਆ ਦੀ ਸਾਧਣਾ।

This is devotional worship, and this is the practice of penance.

ਇਸ ਪਿਆਰ ਅੰਦਰ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਪੈਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਤਾਲ ਪੂਰ ਕੇ ਨਿਰਤਕਾਰੀ ਕਰ।

So dance in this love, and keep the beat with your feet. ||1||

ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸ਼ਲਾਘਾ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਤਾਲ ਸੁਰ ਬੰਨ੍ਹਣੀ ਸਮਝ,

Know that the perfect beat is the Praise of the Lord;

ਹੋਰ ਨਾਚ ਚਿੱਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਭੋਗ ਬਿਲਾਸ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।

other dances produce only temporary pleasure in the mind. ||1||Pause||

ਆਪਣੇ ਛੈਣਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਜੋੜੀ ਵਜੋਂ ਸੱਚ ਅਤੇ ਸਬਰ-ਸਿਦਕ ਦੀ ਕਮਾਈ ਕਰ।

Play the two cymbals of truth and contentment.

ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੇ ਸਦੀਵੀ ਦੀਦਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਪੈਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਘੁੰਗਰੂ ਬਣਾ।

Let your ankle bells be the lasting Vision of the Lord.

ਦਵੈਤ-ਭਾਵ ਦੇ ਮਾਰਨ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਤਰਾਨਾ ਤੇ ਗੀਤ ਸਮਝ।

Let your harmony and music be the elimination of duality.

ਐਹੋ ਜੇਹੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਪਣੇ ਪੈਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਤਾਲ ਪੂਰ ਕੇ ਤੂੰ ਨਿਰਤਕਾਰੀ ਕਰ।

So dance in this love, and keep the beat with your feet. ||2||

ਮਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੇ ਡਰ ਨੂੰ ਚੱਕਰ ਕਟਣੇ ਬਣਾ,

Let the fear of God within your heart and mind be your spinning dance,

ਬੈਠਦਿਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਖਲੋਦਿਆਂ ਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਲਈ।

and keep up, whether sitting or standing.

ਸਰੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਭਸਮ ਜਾਨਣਾ ਹੀ ਮਿੱਟੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਰੁਲਣਾ ਹੈ।

To roll around in the dust is to know that the body is only ashes.

ਐਹੋ ਜਹੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਅੰਦਰ, ਆਪਣੇ ਪੈਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਤਾਲ ਪੂਰ ਕੇ ਤੂੰ ਨਿਰਤਕਾਰੀ ਕਰ।

So dance in this love, and keep the beat with your feet. ||3||

ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਚੇਲੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਮੰਡਲੀ ਹੋਵੇ।

Keep the company of the disciples, the students who love the teachings.

ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਤੂੰ ਸਤਿਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਸ੍ਰਵਣ ਕਰ।

As Gurmukh, listen to the True Name.

ਨਾਨਕ, ਤੂੰ ਬਾਰੰਬਾਰ ਮਾਲਕ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਉਚਾਰਨ ਕਰ।

O Nanak, chant it, over and over again.

ਇਸ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਪਣੇ ਪੈਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਤਾਲ ਪੂਰ ਕੇ ਤੂੰ ਨਿਰਤਕਾਰੀ ਕਰ।

So dance in this love, and keep the beat with your feet. ||4||6||
