ਰਾਗ ਆਸਾ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ। ਪੰਚਪਦੇ।

Aasaa, First Mehl, Panch-Padhay:

ਟੱਬਰ ਕਬੀਲੇ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੇ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਦੀ ਮਮਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਦੇ।

Your attachment to your family, your attachment to all your affairs

ਤੂੰ ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ਮਮਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਤਰਕ ਕਰ ਦੇ, ਇਸ ਸਭ ਪਾਪਾਂ ਦੀ ਮੂਲ ਹੈ!

- renounce all your attachments, for they are all corrupt. ||1||

ਤੂੰ ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ਮਮਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਸੰਦੇਹ ਨਵਿਰਤ ਕਰ ਦੇ।

Renounce your attachments and doubts, O brother,

ਹੇ ਭਰਾ! ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਆਤਮਾ ਅਤੇ ਦੇਹਿ ਨਾਲ ਸਤਿਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਉਚਾਰਨ ਕਰ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।

and dwell upon the True Name within your heart and body. ||1||Pause||

ਜਦ ਆਦਮੀ ਸਤਿਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਨੌ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ,

When one receives the nine treasures of the True Name,

ਤਦ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਬੱਚੇ ਰੋਂਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਅਤੇ ਮਾਤਾ ਦੁਖੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ।

his children do not weep, and his mother does not grieve. ||2||

ਇਸ ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ਮਮਤਾ ਅੰਦਰ ਜਗਤ ਡੁੱਬ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।

In this attachment, the world is drowning.

ਕਿਸੇ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਪੁਰਸ਼ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਪਾਰ ਉਤਾਰਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

Few are the Gurmukhs who swim across. ||3||

ਇਸ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ, ਮੁੜ ਜਨਮ ਧਾਰਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।

In this attachment, people are reincarnated over and over again.

ਦੁਨਿਆਵੀ ਮੁਹੱਬਤ ਨਾਲ ਚਿਮੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਇਨਸਾਨ ਮੌਤ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

Attached to emotional attachment, they go to the city of Death. ||4||

ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਕੇ ਤੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਅਤੇ ਕਰੜੀ ਘਾਲ ਦੀ ਕਮਾਈ ਕਰ।

You have received the Guru's Teachings - now practice meditation and penance.

ਨਾਂ ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ਮਮਤਾ ਟੁੱਟਦੀ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਨਾਂ ਹੀ ਆਦਮੀ ਕਬੂਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

If attachment is not broken, no one is approved. ||5||

ਜੇਕਰ ਮਾਲਕ ਆਪਣੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਿਗ੍ਹਾ ਧਾਰੇ, ਤਦ ਇਹ ਮਮਤਾ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।

But if He bestows His Glance of Grace, then this attachment departs.

ਇਨਸਾਨ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਲ ਅਭੇਦ ਹੋਇਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ!

O Nanak, then one remains merged in the Lord. ||6||23||
