Shabad

ਰਾਗ ਆਸਾ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ।

Aasaa, First Mehl:

ਜੋ ਗੁਰੂ-ਸਮਰਪਨ ਸਿੱਖ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦਾ ਟਹਿਲੂਆ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,

He alone is the selfless servant, slave and humble devotee,

ਕੇਵਲ ਓਹੀ ਨੌਕਰ, ਗੋਲਾ ਅਤੇ ਭਗਤ ਹੈ।

who as Gurmukh, becomes the slave of his Lord and Master.

ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਰਚੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਹੀ ਓੜਕ ਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਲੈ ਕਰ ਦੇਵੇਗਾ।

He, who created the Universe, shall ultimately destroy it.

ਉਸ ਦੇ ਬਗੈਰ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਦੂਸਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ।

Without Him, there is no other at all. ||1||

ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਦੁਆਰਾ, ਗੁਰੂ ਸਮਰਪਣ ਸਤਿਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਆਰਾਧਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,

Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, the Gurmukh reflects upon the True Name;

ਅਤੇ ਸੱਚੀ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਅੰਦਰ ਉਹ ਸੱਚਾ ਮੰਨਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਠਹਿਰਾਓ।

In the True Court, he is found to be true. ||1||Pause||

ਸੱਚੀ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਦਿਲੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਰਥਨਾ ਨੂੰ,

The true supplication, the true prayer

ਆਪਣੇ ਮੰਦਰ ਅੰਦਰ ਕੰਤ ਸਰਵਣ ਕਰਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਸਲਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

- within the Mansion of His Sublime Presence, the True Lord Master hears and applauds these.

ਉਹ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਸਚਿਆਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਰਾਜ ਸਿੰਘਾਸਣ ਉਤੇ ਸੱਦ ਘਲਦਾ ਹੈ,

He summons the truthful to His Heavenly Throne

ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਬਖਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ। ਜੋ ਕੁਛ ਉਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

and bestows glorious greatness upon them; that which He wills, comes to pass. ||2||

ਤੈਡੀਂ ਹੀ ਸਤਿਆ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ।

The Power is Yours; You are my only Support.

ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਹੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਸੱਚਾ ਚਿੰਨ੍ਹ ਹੈ।

The Word of the Guru's Shabad is my true password.

ਜੋ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੇ ਫੁਰਮਾਨ ਦੀ ਪਾਲਣਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਜ਼ਾਹਿਰਾ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਕੋਲ ਚਲਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

One who obeys the Hukam of the Lord's Command, goes to Him openly.

ਸੱਚ ਦੇ ਚਿੰਨ੍ਹ ਕਰਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਰੁਕਾਵਟ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਦੀ।

With the password of truth, his way is not blocked. ||3||

ਬ੍ਰਹਿਮਣ ਵੇਦਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵਾਚਦਾ ਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਵਿਆਖਿਆ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

The Pandit reads and expounds on the Vedas,

ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਦੇ ਵੱਖਰ ਦੇ ਭੇਤ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝਦਾ।

but he does not know the secret of the thing within himself.

ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਬਗੈਰ ਇਹ ਸਮਝ ਅਤੇ ਗਿਆਤ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ,

Without the Guru, understanding and realization are not obtained;

ਕਿ ਉਹ ਸੱਚਾ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।

but still God is True, pervading everywhere. ||4||

ਮੈਂ ਕੀ ਕਹਾਂ, ਅਤੇ ਉਚਾਰਨ ਤੇ ਬਿਆਨ ਕਰਾਂ?

What should I say, or speak or describe?

ਤੂੰ ਹੇ ਪੂਰਨ ਅਸਚਰਜ ਰੂਪ! ਖੁਦ ਹੀ ਸਾਰਾ ਕੁਛ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈਂ।

Only You Yourself know, O Lord of total wonder.

ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਕੇਵਲ ਇੱਕ ਦਰਵਾਜ਼ਾ ਹੀ ਹੈ,

Nanak takes the Support of the Door of the One God.

ਉਥੇ ਸੱਚੇ ਦੁਆਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਹੀ ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਪੁਰਸ਼ਾਂ ਦੀ ਗੁਜ਼ਰਾਨ ਹੈ।

There, at the True Door, the Gurmukhs sustain themselves. ||5||21||
