ਜਹ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਪੁਰਖੁ; ਪੁਰਖ ਪਤਿ ਹੋਤਾ ॥
jeh niramal purakh; purakh pat hotaa |
ਜਿਥੇ ਇਨਸਾਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਕੇਵਲ ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਹੀ ਸੀ,
When there was only the Immaculate Being, the Lord of beings,
ਤਹ ਬਿਨੁ ਮੈਲੁ; ਕਹਹੁ. ਕਿਆ ਧੋਤਾ ॥
teh bin mail; kahahu. kiaa dhotaa |
ਅਤੇ ਉਥੇ ਕੋਈ ਮਲੀਨਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ, ਦੱਸੋ! ਤਦ ਉਥੇ ਸਾਫ-ਸੁਥਰਾ ਕਰਨ ਨੂੰ ਕੀ ਸੀ?
there was no filth, so what was there to be washed clean?
ਜਹ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ; ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ਨਿਰਬਾਨ ॥
jeh niranjan; nirankaar nirabaan |
ਜਿਥੇ ਕੇਵਲ ਉਜਲ, ਆਕਾਰ-ਰਹਿਤ ਅਤੇ ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਪੁਰਖ ਹੀ ਸੀ,
When there was only the Pure, Formless Lord in Nirvaanaa,
ਤਹ ਕਉਨ ਕਉ ਮਾਨ; ਕਉਨ ਅਭਿਮਾਨ ॥
teh kaun kau maan; kaun abhimaan |
ਉੱਥੇ ਕਿਸ ਦੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਅਤੇ ਕਿਸ ਦੀ ਬੇਇਜ਼ਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਸੀ?
then who was honored, and who was dishonored?
ਜਹ ਸਰੂਪ; ਕੇਵਲ ਜਗਦੀਸ ॥
jeh saroop; keval jagadees |
ਜਿਥੇ ਸਿਰਫ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਰੂਪ ਸੀ,
When there was only the Form of the Lord of the Universe,
ਤਹ ਛਲ ਛਿਦ੍ਰ; ਲਗਤ ਕਹੁ ਕੀਸ ॥
teh chhal chhidr; lagat kahu kees |
ਉੱਥੇ ਧੋਖਾ-ਫਰੇਬ ਅਤੇ ਪਾਪ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਦੁਖਾਂਤ੍ਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਸਨ?
then who was tainted by fraud and sin?
ਜਹ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਰੂਪੀ; ਜੋਤਿ ਸੰਗਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥
jeh jot saroopee; jot sang samaavai |
ਜਿਥੇ ਚਾਨਣ ਰੂਪ ਆਪਦੇ ਨੂਰ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਰਮਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ,
When the Embodiment of Light was immersed in His Own Light,
ਤਹ ਕਿਸਹਿ ਭੂਖ; ਕਵਨੁ ਤਿ੍ਰਪਤਾਵੈ ॥
teh kiseh bhookh; kavan tripataavai |
ਤਦ ਉਥੇ ਕਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਭੁੱਖ ਲੱਗਦੀ ਸੀ ਤੇ ਕਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਰੱਜ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਸੀ?
then who was hungry, and who was satisfied?
ਕਰਨ ਕਰਾਵਨ; ਕਰਨੈਹਾਰੁ ॥
karan karaavan; karanaihaar |
ਹੇਤੂਆਂ ਦਾ ਹੇਤੂ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ ਹੈ।
He is the Cause of causes, the Creator Lord.
ਨਾਨਕ. ਕਰਤੇ ਕਾ; ਨਾਹਿ ਸੁਮਾਰੁ ॥੪॥

ਨਾਨਕ, ਕਰਤਾਰ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਮਿਣਤੀ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਹੈ।
O Nanak, the Creator is beyond calculation. ||4||
