ਪਹਿਰੈ ਬਾਗਾ. ਕਰਿ ਇਸਨਾਨਾ; ਚੋਆ ਚੰਦਨ ਲਾਏ ॥
pahirai baagaa. kar isanaanaa; choaa chandan laae |
ਤੂੰ ਮੰਜਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਤੇ ਚਿੱਟੇ ਬਸਤਰ ਪਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਚੰਨਣ ਦੇ ਅਤਰ ਨਾਲ ਸੁੰਗਧਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ।
You wear white clothes and take cleansing baths, and anoint yourself with sandalwood oil.
ਨਿਰਭਉ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ਨਹੀ ਚੀਨਿਆ; ਜਿਉ ਹਸਤੀ ਨਾਵਾਏ ॥੩॥

ਤੂੰ ਭੈ-ਰਹਿਤ, ਸਰੂਪ-ਰਹਿਤ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ, ਤੇਰਾ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਹਾਥੀ ਦੇ ਨ੍ਹਾਉਣ ਵਰਗਾ ਹੈ।
But you do not remember the Fearless, Formless Lord - you are like an elephant bathing in the mud. ||3||
ਜਉ ਹੋਇ ਕਿ੍ਰਪਾਲ. ਤ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਲੈ; ਸਭਿ ਸੁਖ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਨਾਏ ॥

ਜਦ ਹਰੀ ਮਿਹਰਬਾਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਦ ਉਹ ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਾਰਾ ਆਰਾਮ ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਅੰਦਰ ਵਸਦਾ ਹੈ।
When God becomes merciful, He leads you to meet the True Guru; all peace is in the Name of the Lord.
ਮੁਕਤੁ ਭਇਆ. ਬੰਧਨ ਗੁਰਿ ਖੋਲੇ; ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ. ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਏ ॥੪॥੧੪॥੧੫੨॥

ਗੋਲਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਰਾਇਣ ਦੀ ਮਹਿਮਾ ਅਲਾਪਦਾ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਦੀਆਂ ਬੇੜੀਆਂ ਖੋਲ੍ਹ ਦਿੱਤੀਆਂ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਉਹ ਮੁਕਤ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।
The Guru has liberated me from bondage; servant Nanak sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||4||14||152||

ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ; ਗੁਰੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਗੁਰੁ. ਸਦ ਕਰੀਐ ॥

ਮੇਰੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦੜੀਏ ਤੂੰ ਸਦੀਵ ਹੀ ਵਿਸ਼ਾਲ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਸਰੂਪ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਾਰ।
O my mind, dwell always upon the Guru, Guru, Guru.
ਰਤਨ ਜਨਮੁ ਸਫਲੁ ਗੁਰਿ ਕੀਆ; ਦਰਸਨ ਕਉ ਬਲਿਹਰੀਐ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

ਅਮੋਲਕ ਜਨਮ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਫਲਦਾਇਕ ਬਣਾ ਦਿਤਾ ਹੈ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਦੀਦਾਰ ਉਤੋਂ ਮੈਂ ਘੋਲੀ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।
The Guru has made the jewel of this human life prosperous and fruitful. I am a sacrifice to the Blessed Vision of His Darshan. ||1||Pause||
ਜੇਤੇ ਸਾਸ ਗ੍ਰਾਸ ਮਨੁ ਲੇਤਾ; ਤੇਤੇ ਹੀ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਈਐ ॥
jete saas graas man letaa; tete hee gun gaaeeai |
ਜਿੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਸੁਆਸ ਤੇ ਗ੍ਰਾਹੀਆਂ ਤੂੰ ਲੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਮੇਰੀ ਹੈ, ਜਿੰਦੜੀਏ! ਓਨੀ ਵਾਰੀ ਹੀ ਤੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਉਸਤਤੀ ਗਾਇਨ ਕਰ।
As many breaths and morsels as you take, O my mind - so many times, sing His Glorious Praises.
ਜਉ ਹੋਇ ਦੈਆਲੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਅਪੁਨਾ; ਤਾ ਇਹ ਮਤਿ ਬੁਧਿ ਪਾਈਐ ॥੧॥
jau hoe daiaal satigur apunaa; taa ih mat budh paaeeai |1|
ਜਦ ਮੇਰਾ ਸੱਚਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕੇਵਲ ਤਾਂ ਹੀ ਇਹ ਸਮਝ ਤੇ ਅਕਲ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
When the True Guru becomes merciful, then this wisdom and understanding is obtained. ||1||
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਨਾਮਿ ਲਏ. ਜਮ ਬੰਧ ਤੇ ਛੂਟਹਿ; ਸਰਬ ਸੁਖਾ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਈਐ ॥
mere man naam le. jam bandh te chhootteh; sarab sukhaa sukh paaeeai |
ਨਾਮ ਲੈਣ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਹੈ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦੜੀਏ ਤੂੰ ਮੌਤ ਦੇ ਦੂਤ ਦੀ ਕੈਦ ਤੋਂ ਖਲਾਸੀ ਪਾ ਜਾਵੇਗੀ, ਅਤੇ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਆਰਾਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਆਰਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਵੇਗੀ।
O my mind, taking the Naam, you shall be released from the bondage of death, and the peace of all peace will be found.
ਸੇਵਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਦਾਤਾ; ਮਨ ਬੰਛਤ ਫਲ ਆਈਐ ॥੨॥
sev suaamee satigur daataa; man banchhat fal aaeeai |2|
ਦਾਤਾਰ ਮਾਲਕ, ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਟਹਿਲ ਕਮਾਉਣ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਦਿਲ ਚਾਹੁੰਦੀਆਂ ਮੁਰਾਦਾ ਪਾ ਲਈਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ।
Serving your Lord and Master, the True Guru, the Great Giver, you shall obtain the fruits of your mind's desires. ||2||
ਨਾਮੁ ਇਸਟੁ ਮੀਤ ਸੁਤ ਕਰਤਾ; ਮਨ ਸੰਗਿ ਤੁਹਾਰੈ ਚਾਲੈ ॥
naam isatt meet sut karataa; man sang tuhaarai chaalai |
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨੁਏ, ਸਿਰਜਨਹਾਰ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਤੇਰਾ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਮਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਤੇ ਪੁੱਤ੍ਰ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਇਹ ਹੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਜਾਏਗਾ।
The Name of the Creator is your beloved friend and child; it alone shall go along with you, O my mind.
ਕਰਿ ਸੇਵਾ. ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਕੀ; ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਪਾਈਐ ਪਾਲੈ ॥੩॥

ਆਪਣੇ ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਚਾਕਰੀ ਕਮਾ। ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਨਾਮ ਝੋਲੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੈ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
So serve your True Guru, and you shall receive the Name from the Guru. ||3||
ਗੁਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾਲਿ ਕਿ੍ਰਪਾ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਧਾਰੀ; ਬਿਨਸੇ ਸਰਬ ਅੰਦੇਸਾ ॥
gur kirapaal kripaa prabh dhaaree; binase sarab andesaa |
ਜਦ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਾਲਕ, ਮਿਹਰਬਾਨ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ ਦਇਆ ਕੀਤੀ ਤਾਂ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਾਰੇ iਫ਼ਕਰ ਮਿਟ ਗਏ।
When God, the Merciful Guru, showered His Mercy upon me, all my anxieties were dispelled.
ਨਾਨਕ. ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਨਿ; ਮਿਟਿਓ ਸਗਲ ਕਲੇਸਾ ॥੪॥੧੫॥੧੫੩॥

ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਜੱਸ ਗਾਇਨ ਕਰਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਨੇ ਠੰਢ-ਚੈਨ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਮੂਹ ਦੁਖੜੇ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਹਨ।
Nanak has found the peace of the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises. All his sorrows have been dispelled. ||4||15||153||

ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਕੇਵਲ ਇਕ ਹੈ ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਉਹ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:
ਤਿ੍ਰਸਨਾ. ਬਿਰਲੇ ਹੀ ਕੀ; ਬੁਝੀ ਹੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

ਤ੍ਰੇਹ ਬਹੁਤ ਹੀ ਥੋੜਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਨਵਿਰਤਾ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।
The thirst of only a few is quenched. ||1||Pause||
ਕੋਟਿ ਜੋਰੇ ਲਾਖ ਕ੍ਰੋਰੇ; ਮਨੁ ਨ ਹੋਰੇ ॥ ਪਰੈ ਪਰੈ ਹੀ ਕਉ; ਲੁਝੀ ਹੇ ॥੧॥
kott jore laakh krore; man na hore | parai parai hee kau; lujhee he |1|
ਇਨਸਾਨ ਕ੍ਰੋੜਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਲਖਾਂ ਕ੍ਰੋੜਾ ਇਕਤਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨੂਏ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਰੋਕਦਾ, ਤੇ ਉਹ ਹੋਰ ਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਲਈ ਲਲਚਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
People may accumulate hundreds of thousands, millions, tens of millions, and yet the mind is not restrained. They only yearn for more and more. ||1||
ਸੁੰਦਰ ਨਾਰੀ ਅਨਿਕ ਪਰਕਾਰੀ; ਪਰ ਗਿ੍ਰਹ ਬਿਕਾਰੀ ॥ ਬੁਰਾ ਭਲਾ ਨਹੀ ਸੁਝੀ ਹੇ ॥੨॥

ਉਸ ਦੇ ਕੋਲ ਕਈ ਤਰ੍ਹਾ ਦੀਆਂ ਸੁਹਣੀਆਂ ਇਸਤਰੀਆਂ ਹਨ ਫਿਰ ਭੀ ਉਹ ਹੋਰਨਾ ਦੇ ਘਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਿਭਚਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਮੰਦੇ ਅਤੇ ਚੰਗੇ ਦੀ ਉਹ ਪਛਾਣ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ।
They may have all sorts of beautiful women, but still, they commit adultery in the homes of others. They do not distinguish between good and bad. ||2||
ਅਨਿਕ ਬੰਧਨ ਮਾਇਆ, ਭਰਮਤੁ ਭਰਮਾਇਆ; ਗੁਣ ਨਿਧਿ. ਨਹੀ ਗਾਇਆ ॥ ਮਨ ਬਿਖੈ ਹੀ ਮਹਿ ਲੁਝੀ ਹੇ ॥੩॥
anik bandhan maaeaa, bharamat bharamaaeaa; gun nidh. nahee gaaeaa | man bikhai hee meh lujhee he |3|
ਮੋਹਣੀ ਦੀਆਂ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਬੇੜੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਭਟਕਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਉਹ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਚੰਗਿਆਈਆਂ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਦੀ ਕੀਰਤੀ ਗਾਇਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ। ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨੂਆ ਮੰਦੇ ਅਮਲਾ ਅੰਦਰ ਖਚਤ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
They wander around lost, trapped in the myriad bonds of Maya; they do not sing the Praises of the Treasure of Virtue. Their minds are engrossed in poison and corruption. ||3||
ਜਾ ਕਉ ਰੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰੈ, ਜੀਵਤ ਸੋਈ ਮਰੈ; ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਤਰੈ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ. ਸੋ ਜਨੁ; ਦਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਝੀ ਹੇ ॥੪॥੧॥੧੫੪॥
jaa kau re kirapaa karai, jeevat soee marai; saadhasang maaeaa tarai | naanak. so jan; dar har sijhee he |4|1|154|
ਜਿਸ ਉਤੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਧਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਜੀਉਂਦੇ ਜੀ ਮਰਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਸੰਗਤ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜਕੇ ਮੋਹਨੀ ਦੇ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਨਾਨਕ ਉਹ ਇਨਸਾਨ ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਅੰਦਰ ਸੁਰਖਰੂ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
Those, unto whom the Lord shows His Mercy, remain dead while yet alive. In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, they cross over the ocean of Maya. O Nanak, those humble beings are honored in the Court of the Lord. ||4||1||154||

ਕਾਹੂ ਜੋਗ ਕਾਹੂ ਭੋਗ; ਕਾਹੂ ਗਿਆਨ ਕਾਹੂ ਧਿਆਨ ॥ ਕਾਹੂ ਹੋ; ਡੰਡ ਧਰਿ ਹੋ ॥੧॥

ਕਈ ਯੋਗ ਦੀ ਵਿਦਿਆ ਕਈ ਖਾਹਿਸ਼ਾਂ ਦੀ ਪੂਰਤੀ, ਕਈ ਬ੍ਰਹਿਮ-ਵੀਚਾਰ ਤੇ ਕਈ ਸਿਮਰਣ ਦਾ ਅਭਿਆਸ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਕਈ ਸੋਟਾ ਰਖਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਸਾਧੂ ਹੋਣਾ ਪਸੰਦ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
Some practice Yoga, some indulge in pleasures; some live in spiritual wisdom, some live in meditation. Some are bearers of the staff. ||1||
ਕਾਹੂ ਜਾਪ ਕਾਹੂ ਤਾਪ; ਕਾਹੂ ਪੂਜਾ ਹੋਮ ਨੇਮ ॥ ਕਾਹੂ ਹੋ; ਗਉਨੁ ਕਰਿ ਹੋ ॥੨॥

ਕਈ ਮੂਹ ਜ਼ਬਾਨੀ ਉਚਾਰਣ ਕਈ ਤਪੱਸਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਕਈ ਉਪਾਸਨਾ ਹਵਨ ਤੇ ਨਿਤ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਕਈਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਫਿਰਨ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਭਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
Some chant in meditation, some practice deep, austere meditation; some worship Him in adoration, some practice daily rituals. Some live the life of a wanderer. ||2||
ਕਾਹੂ ਤੀਰ ਕਾਹੂ ਨੀਰ; ਕਾਹੂ ਬੇਦ ਬੀਚਾਰ ॥ ਨਾਨਕਾ; ਭਗਤਿ ਪਿ੍ਰਅ ਹੋ ॥੩॥੨॥੧੫੫॥
kaahoo teer kaahoo neer; kaahoo bed beechaar | naanakaa; bhagat pria ho |3|2|155|
ਕਈ ਕਿਨਾਰੇ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਕਈ ਪਾਣੀ ਤੇ ਕਈ ਵੇਦਾ ਦੇ ਪੜ੍ਹਨ ਨੂੰ। ਨਾਨਕ ਨੂੰ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਅਨੁਰਾਗੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਪਿਆਰੀ ਹੈ।
Some live by the shore, some live on the water; some study the Vedas. Nanak loves to worship the Lord. ||3||2||155||

ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰੀ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਹੈ, ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰੀ ਮਹਿਮਾ, ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰੀ ਸੁੰਦਰਤਾ ਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ। ਤੂੰ ਹੇ, ਸੁਆਮੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਉਮੈਦ ਤੇ ਪਨਾਹ ਹੈਂ।
You are my delight, You are my praise. You are my beauty, You are my love. O God, You are my hope and support. ||1||

ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰਾ ਫਖਰ ਹੈਂ ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰੀ ਦੌਲਤ ਹੈਂ ਅਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਆਬਰੂ ਹੈਂ ਅਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦਜਾਨ ਹੈਂ। ਗੁਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਜੋੜ ਦਿਤਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਮੈਂ ਵੱਖਰਾਂ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਸਾਂ।
