ਮਾਨੁ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ਦੋਊ ਸਮਾਨੇ; ਮਸਤਕੁ ਡਾਰਿ. ਗੁਰ ਪਾਗਿਓ ॥
maan abhimaan doaoo samaane; masatak ddaar. gur paagio |
ਮੇਰੇ ਲਈ ਇੱਜਤ ਤੇ ਬੇ-ਇਜ਼ਤੀ ਦੋਨੋਂ ਇਕ ਸਮਾਨ ਹਨ। ਆਪਣਾ ਮੱਥਾ ਮੈਂ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਟੇਕ ਦਿਤਾ ਹੈ।
Honor and dishonor are the same to me; I have placed my forehead upon the Guru's Feet.
ਸੰਪਤ ਹਰਖੁ ਨ ਆਪਤ ਦੂਖਾ; ਰੰਗੁ ਠਾਕੁਰੈ ਲਾਗਿਓ ॥੧॥

ਮੈਨੂੰ ਦੌਲਤ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਅਤੇ ਅਪਦਾ ਦੁਖੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੀ ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਮੇਰੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਪੈ ਗਈ ਹੈ।
Wealth does not excite me, and misfortune does not disturb me; I have embraced love for my Lord and Master. ||1||
ਬਾਸ ਬਾਸਰੀ ਏਕੈ ਸੁਆਮੀ; ਉਦਿਆਨ ਦਿ੍ਰਸਟਾਗਿਓ ॥
baas baasaree ekai suaamee; udiaan drisattaagio |
ਇਕ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਘਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਬੀਆਬਾਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਭੀ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
The One Lord and Master dwells in the home; He is seen in the wilderness as well.
ਨਿਰਭਉ ਭਏ ਸੰਤ. ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਡਾਰਿਓ; ਪੂਰਨ ਸਰਬਾਗਿਓ ॥੨॥
nirbhau bhe sant. bhram ddaario; pooran sarabaagio |2|
ਸਾਧੂ ਨੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਸੰਦੇਹ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦਿਤਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਨਿੱਡਰ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹਾਂ। ਸ੍ਰਬੱਗ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਸਮੂਹ ਨੂੰ ਪੂਰੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਭਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
I have become fearless; the Saint has removed my doubts. The All-knowing Lord is pervading everywhere. ||2||
ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰਤੈ ਕਾਰਣੁ ਕੀਨੋ; ਮਨਿ. ਬੁਰੋ ਨ ਲਾਗਿਓ ॥
jo kichh karatai kaaran keeno; man. buro na laagio |
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਕੰਮ ਭੀ ਸਿਰਜਦਹਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮੇਰੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਂ-ਖੁਸ਼ਗਵਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਗਦਾ।
Whatever the Creator does, my mind is not troubled.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਸੰਤਨ ਕੈ; ਸੋਇਓ ਮਨੁ ਜਾਗਿਓ ॥੩॥
saadhasangat parasaad santan kai; soeo man jaagio |3|
ਸਚਿਆਰਾ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਧਾਂ ਦੀ ਦਇਆ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਮੇਰੀ ਸੁੱਤੀ ਹੋਈ ਆਤਮਾ ਜਾਗ ਉਠੀ ਹੈ।
By the Grace of the Saints and the Company of the Holy, my sleeping mind has been awakened. ||3||
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ. ਓੜਿ ਤੁਹਾਰੀ ਪਰਿਓ; ਆਇਓ ਸਰਣਾਗਿਓ ॥

ਨਫ਼ਰ ਨਾਨਕ ਨੇ ਤੇਰਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਸ਼ਰਣਾਗਤ ਸੰਭਾਲੀ ਹੈ।
Servant Nanak seeks Your Support; he has come to Your Sanctuary.
ਨਾਮ ਰੰਗ ਸਹਜ ਰਸ ਮਾਣੇ; ਫਿਰਿ. ਦੂਖੁ ਨ ਲਾਗਿਓ ॥੪॥੨॥੧੬੦॥

ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਨਾਨਕ ਪਰਮ-ਅਨੰਦ ਭੋਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਪੀੜ, ਮੁੜਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਛੂੰਹਦੀ ਤਕ ਨਹੀਂ।
In the Love of the Naam, the Name of the Lord, he enjoys intuitive peace; pain no longer touches him. ||4||2||160||

ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਹੀ ਆਪਣਾ ਮਾਣਕ ਵਰਗਾ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਲਭ, ਲਿਆ ਹੈ!
I have found the jewel of my Beloved within my mind.
ਤਨੁ ਸੀਤਲੁ. ਮਨੁ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਥੀਆ; ਸਤਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

ਮੇਰੀ ਦੇਹਿ ਠਰ ਗਈ ਹੈ, ਮੇਰੀ ਆਤਮਾ ਠਰ ਗਈ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਅੰਦਰ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹਾਂ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।
My body is cooled, my mind is cooled and soothed, and I am absorbed into the Shabad, the Word of the True Guru. ||1||Pause||
ਲਾਥੀ ਭੂਖ ਤਿ੍ਰਸਨ ਸਭ ਲਾਥੀ; ਚਿੰਤਾ ਸਗਲ ਬਿਸਾਰੀ ॥
laathee bhookh trisan sabh laathee; chintaa sagal bisaaree |
ਮੇਰੀ ਭੁਖ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਹੈ। ਮੇਰੀਆਂ ਖ਼ਾਹਿਸ਼ਾਂ ਤਮਾਮ ਮੁਕ ਗਈਆਂ ਹਨ, ਤੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਾਰਾ iਫ਼ਕਰ ਮਿਟ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।
My hunger has departed, my thirst has totally departed, and all my anxiety is forgotten.
ਕਰੁ ਮਸਤਕਿ. ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਧਰਿਓ; ਮਨੁ ਜੀਤੋ ਜਗੁ ਸਾਰੀ ॥੧॥

ਪੂਰਨ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਹੱਥ ਮੇਰੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉਤੇ ਰਖਿਆ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨੂਏ ਨੂੰ ਜਿਤਣ ਨਾਲ ਮੈਂ ਸਾਰਾ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਜਿੱਤ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।
The Perfect Guru has placed His Hand upon my forehead; conquering my mind, I have conquered the whole world. ||1||
ਤਿ੍ਰਪਤਿ ਅਘਾਇ ਰਹੇ ਰਿਦ ਅੰਤਰਿ; ਡੋਲਨ ਤੇ. ਅਬ ਚੂਕੇ ॥
tripat aghaae rahe rid antar; ddolan te. ab chooke |
ਆਪਣੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਮੈਂ ਰੱਜਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਧ੍ਰਾਪਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਹੁਣ ਮੈਂ ਡਿੱਕਡੋਲੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਖਾਂਦਾ।
Satisfied and satiated, I remain steady within my heart, and now, I do not waver at all.
ਅਖੁਟੁ ਖਜਾਨਾ, ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਆ; ਤੋਟਿ ਨਹੀ ਰੇ ਮੂਕੇ ॥੨॥
akhutt khajaanaa, satigur deea; tott nahee re mooke |2|
ਅਮੁੱਕ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਬਖਸ਼ਿਆ ਹੈ, ਨਾਂ ਇਹ ਘਟ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਨਾਂ ਹੀ ਮੁਕਦਾ ਹੈ।
The True Guru has given me the inexhaustible treasure; it never decreases, and never runs out. ||2||
ਅਚਰਜੁ ਏਕੁ ਸੁਨਹੁ ਰੇ ਭਾਈ; ਗੁਰਿ. ਐਸੀ ਬੂਝ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥
acharaj ek sunahu re bhaaee; gur. aisee boojh bujhaaee |
ਇਕ ਹੈਰਾਨੀ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਸੁਣ ਹੈ ਵੀਰ! ਗੁਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹੀ ਗਿਆਤ ਦਰਸਾਈ ਹੈ,
Listen to this wonder, O Siblings of Destiny: the Guru has given me this understanding.
ਲਾਹਿ ਪਰਦਾ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਜਉ ਭੇਟਿਓ; ਤਉ ਬਿਸਰੀ ਤਾਤਿ ਪਰਾਈ ॥੩॥
laeh paradaa tthaakur jau bhettio; tau bisaree taat paraaee |3|
ਕਿ ਜਦ ਪੜਦਾ ਪਰੇ ਹਟਾ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਿਆ, ਤਦ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਹੋਰਨਾ ਨਾਲ ਈਰਖਾ ਕਰਨੀ ਭੁੱਲ ਗਈ।
I threw off the veil of illusion, when I met my Lord and Master; then, I forgot my jealousy of others. ||3||
ਕਹਿਓ ਨ ਜਾਈ. ਏਹੁ ਅਚੰਭਉ; ਸੋ ਜਾਨੈ ਜਿਨਿ ਚਾਖਿਆ ॥
kahio na jaaee. ehu achanbhau; so jaanai jin chaakhiaa |
ਇਹ ਇਕ ਅਸਚਰਜ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ। ਕੇਵਲ ਉਹੀ ਅਨੁਭਵ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
This is a wonder which cannot be described. They alone know it, who have tasted it.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ. ਸਚ ਭਏ ਬਿਗਾਸਾ; ਗੁਰਿ. ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਲੈ ਰਾਖਿਆ ॥੪॥੩॥੧੬੧॥
kahu naanak. sach bhe bigaasaa; gur. nidhaan ridai lai raakhiaa |4|3|161|
ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ, ਸੱਚ ਮੇਰੇ ਤੇ ਪਰਗਟ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ। ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦੌਲਤ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਦਿਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਟਿਕਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।
Says Nanak, the Truth has been revealed to me. The Guru has given me the treasure; I have taken it and enshrined it within my heart. ||4||3||161||

ਉਬਰਤ; ਰਾਜਾ ਰਾਮ ਕੀ ਸਰਣੀ ॥
aubarat; raajaa raam kee saranee |
ਬੰਦਾ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ, ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਣਾਗਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਬਚ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
Those who take to the Sanctuary of the Lord, the King, are saved.
ਸਰਬ ਲੋਕ ਮਾਇਆ ਕੇ ਮੰਡਲ; ਗਿਰਿ ਗਿਰਿ ਪਰਤੇ ਧਰਣੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sarab lok maaeaa ke manddal; gir gir parate dharanee |1| rahaau |
ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ਅਦਾਲਤਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਤੇ ਛਪਾਲ ਡਿਗ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।
All other people, in the mansion of Maya, fall flat on their faces on the ground. ||1||Pause||
ਸਾਸਤ ਸਿੰਮਿ੍ਰਤਿ ਬੇਦ ਬੀਚਾਰੇ; ਮਹਾ ਪੁਰਖਨ ਇਉ ਕਹਿਆ ॥
saasat sinmrit bed beechaare; mahaa purakhan iau kahiaa |
ਵਡੇ ਆਦਮੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਸ਼ਾਸਤਰਾਂ, ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਤੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਵੇਦਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਘੋਖ ਕੇ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਆਖਿਆ ਹੈ,
The great men have studied the Shaastras, the Simritees and the Vedas, and they have said this:
ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਭਜਨ. ਨਾਹੀ ਨਿਸਤਾਰਾ; ਸੂਖੁ. ਨ ਕਿਨਹੂੰ ਲਹਿਆ ॥੧॥
bin har bhajan. naahee nisataaraa; sookh. na kinahoon lahiaa |1|
ਕਿ ਰੱਬ ਦੀ ਬੰਦਗੀ ਦੇ ਬਾਝੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਕਲਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ, ਨਾਂ ਹੀ ਕਿਸੇ ਜਣੇ ਨੂੰ ਆਰਾਮ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
"Without the Lord's meditation, there is no emancipation, and no one has ever found peace." ||1||
ਤੀਨਿ ਭਵਨ ਕੀ ਲਖਮੀ ਜੋਰੀ; ਬੂਝਤ ਨਾਹੀ. ਲਹਰੇ ॥
teen bhavan kee lakhamee joree; boojhat naahee. lahare |
ਭਾਵੇਂ ਬੰਦਾ ਤਿਨਾਂ ਜਹਾਨਾ ਦੀ ਦੌਲਤ ਇਕਤ੍ਰ ਕਰ ਲਵੇ ਪਰ ਉਸ ਤਮ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਤਰੰਗ ਮਾਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੇ।
People may accumulate the wealth of the three worlds, but the waves of greed are still not subdued.
ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ. ਕਹਾ ਥਿਤਿ ਪਾਵੈ; ਫਿਰਤੋ ਪਹਰੇ ਪਹਰੇ ॥੨॥
bin har bhagat. kahaa thit paavai; firato pahare pahare |2|
ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਭਜਨ ਬਗੈਰ, ਅਸਥਿਰਤਾ ਕਿੰਥੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਜੀਵ, ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੇ?
Without devotional worship of the Lord, where can anyone find stability? People wander around endlessly. ||2||
ਅਨਿਕ ਬਿਲਾਸ ਕਰਤ ਮਨ ਮੋਹਨ; ਪੂਰਨ ਹੋਤ ਨ ਕਾਮਾ ॥
anik bilaas karat man mohan; pooran hot na kaamaa |
ਇਨਸਾਨ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਦਿਲ ਖਿਚਣ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਪਰਚਾਵਿਆਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਲਪਟਾਇਮਾਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਉਸ ਦੀਆਂ ਖ਼ਾਹਿਸ਼ਾਂ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀਆਂ।
People engage in all sorts of mind-enticing pastimes, but their passions are not fulfilled.
ਜਲਤੋ ਜਲਤੋ. ਕਬਹੂ ਨ ਬੂਝਤ; ਸਗਲ ਬਿ੍ਰਥੇ. ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਮਾ ॥੩॥
jalato jalato. kabahoo na boojhat; sagal brithe. bin naamaa |3|
ਉਹ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਸੜਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਕਦੇ ਭੀ ਸ਼ਾਂਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ। ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਬਗੈਰ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਸ਼ੈਆਂ ਵਿਆਰਥ ਹਨ।
They burn and burn, and are never satisfied; without the Lord's Name, it is all useless. ||3||
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ. ਜਪਹੁ ਮੇਰੇ ਮੀਤਾ; ਇਹੈ ਸਾਰ ਸੁਖੁ ਪੂਰਾ ॥
har kaa naam. japahu mere meetaa; ihai saar sukh pooraa |
ਤੂੰ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਉਚਾਰਨ ਕਰ, ਹੈ ਮੇਰੇ ਦੋਸਤ! ਇਹ ਪੂਰਨ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਦਾ ਨਿਚੋੜ ਹੈ।
Chant the Name of the Lord, my friend; this is the essence of perfect peace.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ. ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣੁ ਨਿਵਾਰੈ; ਨਾਨਕ ਜਨ ਕੀ ਧੂਰਾ ॥੪॥੪॥੧੬੨॥

ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਪੁਰਸ਼ਾ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਜੰਮਣਾ ਤੇ ਮਰਣਾ ਮੁਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਗੋਲਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਕ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, birth and death are ended. Nanak is the dust of the feet of the humble. ||4||4||162||

ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਦਸ਼ਾ ਨੂੰ ਕੌਣ ਸਮਝਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ?
Who can help me understand my condition?
ਕਰਤਾ ਹੋਇ ਜਨਾਵੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

ਜੇਕਰ ਬੰਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੋਵੇ, ਕੇਵਲ ਤਾ ਹੀ ਉਹ ਦਰਸਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।
Only the Creator knows it. ||1||Pause||
ਅਨਜਾਨਤ ਕਿਛੁ ਇਨਹਿ ਕਮਾਨੋ; ਜਪ ਤਪ ਕਛੂ. ਨ ਸਾਧਾ ॥
anajaanat kichh ineh kamaano; jap tap kachhoo. na saadhaa |
ਬੇਸਮਝੀ ਅੰਦਰ ਇਹ ਇਨਸਾਨ ਸਾਰਾ ਕੁਝ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਪਰ ਉਹ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਅਤੇ ਕਰੜੀ ਘਾਲ ਕੁਝ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ।
This person does things in ignorance; he does not chant in meditation, and does not perform any deep, self-disciplined meditation.
ਦਹ ਦਿਸਿ ਲੈ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਦਉਰਾਇਓ; ਕਵਨ ਕਰਮ ਕਰਿ ਬਾਧਾ ॥੧॥
deh dis lai ihu man dauraaeo; kavan karam kar baadhaa |1|
ਖ਼ਾਹਿਸ਼ ਅੰਦਰ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਇਸ ਮਨੂਏ ਨੂੰ ਦਸੀਂ ਪਾਸੀਂ ਭਜਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ! ਕਿਹੜਿਆਂ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਮਨੂਆਂ ਰੋਕਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ?
This mind wanders around in the ten directions - how can it be restrained? ||1||
ਮਨ ਤਨ ਧਨ ਭੂਮਿ ਕਾ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ; ਹਉ ਇਸ ਕਾ ਇਹੁ ਮੇਰਾ ॥
man tan dhan bhoom kaa tthaakur; hau is kaa ihu meraa |
ਬੰਦਾ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ, "ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨੂਏ, ਦੇਹਿ, ਦੌਲਤ ਅਤੇ ਜ਼ਮੀਨ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹਾਂ। ਮੈਂ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਤੇ ਇਹ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਨ।"
