Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji

ਗਊੜੀ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਪਹਿਲੀ।

Gauree, First Mehl:

ਜੇਕਰ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਦਇਆ ਦੁਆਰਾ, ਇਨਸਾਨ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝ ਲਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਹਿਸਾਬ-ਕਿਤਾਬ ਬੇਬਾਕ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

By Guru's Grace, one comes to understand, and then, the account is settled.

ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਪੁਰਸ਼ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਦਿਲ ਅੰਦਰ ਸਮਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈ।

In each and every heart is the Name of the Immaculate Lord; He is my Lord and Master. ||1||

ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਦੇ ਬਗ਼ੈਰ ਬੰਦੇ ਦੀ ਖਲਾਸੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ। ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਸੋਚ ਸਮਝ ਕੇ ਵੇਖ ਲਉ।

Without the Word of the Guru's Shabad, no one is emancipated. See this, and reflect upon it.

ਭਾਵੇਂ ਆਦਮੀ ਲੱਖਾਂ ਹੀ ਕਰਮਕਾਂਡ ਪਿਆ ਕਮਾਵੇ, ਪਰ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਬਗ਼ੈਰ ਸਭ ਹਨ੍ਹੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਹੈ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।

Even though you may perform hundreds of thousands of rituals, without the Guru, there is only darkness. ||1||Pause||

ਆਪਾਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕੀ ਆਖੀਏ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਅਤੇ ਸਿਆਣਪ ਤੋਂ ਸੱਖਣੇ ਹਨ?

What can you say, to one who is blind and without wisdom?

ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਬਾਝੋਂ ਰਸਤਾ ਦਿਖਾਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਤਦ ਆਦਮੀ ਦਾ ਕਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਗੁਜ਼ਾਰਾ ਚੱਲੇ?

Without the Guru, the Path cannot be seen. How can anyone proceed? ||2||

ਜਾਹਲੀ ਨੂੰ ਆਦਮੀ ਅਸਲੀ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਅਸਲੀ ਦੀ ਉਹ ਕਦਰ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਛਾਣਦਾ।

He calls the counterfeit genuine, and does not know the value of the genuine.

ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਾਂਚ ਪੜਤਾਲ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ। ਅਸਚਰਜ ਹੈ ਇਹ ਕਲਜੁਗ ਦਾ ਸਮਾਂ।

The blind man is known as an appraiser; this Dark Age of Kali Yuga is so strange! ||3||

ਸੁੱਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਗਦਾ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਜਾਗਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਸੁੱਤਾ ਪਿਆ ਕਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

The sleeper is said to be awake, and those who are awake are like sleepers.

ਇਹ ਜੀਉਂਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਨੂੰ ਮੁਰਦਾ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਦਰ ਅਸਲ ਮਰਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਲਈ ਵਿਰਲਾਪ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ।

The living are said to be dead, and no one mourns for those who have died. ||4||

ਜੋ ਆ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਜੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਇਆ ਕਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

One who is coming is said to be going, and one who is gone is said to have come.

ਆਦਮੀ ਪਰਾਈ ਮਲਕੀਅਤ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਨਿੱਜ ਦੀ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਨਿੱਜ ਦੀ ਨੂੰ ਪਸੰਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਖਦਾ।

That which belongs to others, he calls his own, but he has no liking for that which is his. ||5||

ਜੋ ਮਿੱਠਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਕੋੜਾ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਕੌੜੇ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਮਿੱਠਾ ਦਸਦਾ ਹੈ।

That which is sweet is said to be bitter, and the bitter is said to be sweet.

ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਨਾਲ ਰੰਗੇ ਹੋਏ ਦੀ ਉਹ ਬਦਖੋਹੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਵਰਤਾਰਾ ਮੈਂ ਕਲਜੁਗ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਹੈ।

One who is imbued with the Lord's Love is slandered - this is what I have seen in this Dark Age of Kali Yuga. ||6||

ਇਨਸਾਨ ਨੌਕਰਾਣੀ ਦੀ ਟਹਿਲ ਕਮਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਪ੍ਰੰਤੂ ਮਾਲਕ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ।

He serves the maid, and does not see his Lord and Master.

ਛੱਪੜ ਦਾ ਪਾਣੀ ਰਿੜਕਣ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਮੱਖਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਨਿਕਲਦਾ।

Churning the water in the pond, no butter is produced. ||7||

ਜੋ ਇਸ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਦੇ ਅਰਥ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮੇਰਾ ਉਸਤਾਦ ਹੈ।

One who understands the meaning of this verse is my Guru.

ਜੋ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ, ਹੈ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਅਤੇ ਲਾਸਾਨੀ ਹੈ।

O Nanak, one who knows his own self, is infinite and incomparable. ||8||

ਖ਼ੁਦ-ਬ-ਖ਼ੁਦ ਹੀ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਸਾਰੇ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਉਹ ਖ਼ੁਦ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਭਟਕਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

He Himself is All-pervading; He Himself misleads the people.

ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਦਇਆ ਰਾਹੀਂ, ਇਨਸਾਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਰਮਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।

By Guru's Grace, one comes to understand, that God is contained in all. ||9||2||18||

ਰਾਗ ਗਊੜੀ ਗੁਆਰੇਰੀ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਤੀਜੀ ਅਸ਼ਟਪਦੀਆਂ।

Raag Gauree Gwaarayree, Third Mehl, Ashtpadheeyaa:

ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਕੇਵਲ ਇਕ ਹੈ। ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਦਇਆ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਉਹ ਜਾਣਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:

ਹੋਰਸ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਚਿੱਤ ਦੀ ਨਾਪਾਕੀ ਹੈ।

The pollution of the mind is the love of duality.

ਵਹਿਮ ਦਾ ਘੁਸਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਬੰਦਾ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਤੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

Deluded by doubt, people come and go in reincarnation. ||1||

ਪ੍ਰਤੀਕੂਲ ਪੁਰਸ਼ ਦੀ ਅਪਵਿਤਰਤਾ ਕਦਾਚਿੱਤ ਦੂਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ।

The pollution of the self-willed manmukhs will never go away,

ਜਦ ਤਾਈ ਉਹ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਤਾਬੇ ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਅੰਦਰ ਗੜੂੰਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।

as long as they do not dwell on the Shabad, and the Name of the Lord. ||1||Pause||

ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟਮਾਨ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦੀ ਤਮਾਮ ਲਗਨ ਸਭ ਅਸ਼ੁੱਧਤਾ ਹੀ ਹੈ!

All the created beings are contaminated by emotional attachment;

ਇਸ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਕੇ, ਮਰਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਜੰਮਦਾ ਹੈ।

they die and are reborn, only to die over and over again. ||2||

ਅਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰਤਾ ਅੱਗ, ਹਵਾ ਅਤੇ ਜਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੈ।

Fire, air and water are polluted.

ਸਮੂਹ ਖੁਰਾਕ ਜੋ ਅਸੀਂ ਖਾਂਦੇ ਹਾਂ, ਦੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਮਲੀਨਤਾ ਹੈ।

The food which is eaten is polluted. ||3||

ਭ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟਤਾ ਹੈ, ਇਨਸਾਨ ਦੇ ਅਮਲਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਹ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੀ ਉਪਾਸ਼ਨਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ।

The actions of those who do not worship the Lord are polluted.

ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨਾਲ ਰੰਗੀਜਣ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਆਤਮਾ ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।

Attuned to the Naam, the Name of the Lord, the mind becomes immaculate. ||4||

ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਟਹਿਲ ਕਮਾਉਣ ਨਾਲ ਅਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰਤਾ ਚਲੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ,

Serving the True Guru, pollution is eradicated,

ਅਤੇ ਆਦਮੀ ਨਾਂ ਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਨਾਂ ਹੀ ਮੁੜ ਜੰਮਦਾ ਹੈ, ਨਾਂ ਹੀ ਮੌਤ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਨਿਗਲਦੀ ਹੈ।

and then, one does not suffer death and rebirth, or get devoured by death. ||5||

ਕੋਈ ਜਣਾ ਸ਼ਾਸਤ੍ਰਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਸਿਮਰਤੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਘੋਖ ਕੇ ਵੇਖ ਲਵੇ।

You may study and examine the Shaastras and the Simritees,

ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਬਾਝੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਮੁਕਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ।

but without the Name, no one is liberated. ||6||

ਚੌਹਾਂ ਹੀ ਯੁਗਾਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਨਾਮ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਣ ਸਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਵਸਤੂ ਹੈ।

Throughout the four ages, the Naam is the ultimate; reflect upon the Word of the Shabad.

ਕਲਜੁਗ ਅੰਦਰ ਕੇਵਲ ਗੁਰੂ-ਅਨੁਸਾਰੀ ਦਾ ਪਾਰ ਉਤਾਰਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

In this Dark Age of Kali Yuga, only the Gurmukhs cross over. ||7||

ਸੱਚਾ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਮਰਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ। ਉਹ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਤੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ।

The True Lord does not die; He does not come or go.

ਨਾਨਕ, ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਦਇਆ ਦੁਆਰਾ, ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਨਾਮ ਅੰਦਰ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

O Nanak, the Gurmukh remains absorbed in the Lord. ||8||1||

ਗਊੜੀ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਤੀਜੀ।

Gauree, Third Mehl:

ਸਾਈਂ ਦੀ ਘਾਲ ਗੁਰੂ-ਅਨੁਸਾਰੀ ਦੀ ਜਿੰਦੜੀ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ।

Selfless service is the support of the breath of life of the Gurmukh.

ਮਾਣਨੀਯ ਮਾਲਕ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਰਿਦੇ ਅਤੇ ਆਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਲਾਈ ਰੱਖ।

Keep the Dear Lord enshrined in your heart.

ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਸੱਚੇ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਅੰਦਰ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।

The Gurmukh is honored in the Court of the True Lord. ||1||

ਹੈ ਵਿਦਵਾਨ ਤੂੰ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਵਾਚ ਅਤੇ ਬਦੀ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਦੇ।

O Pandit, O religious scholar, read about the Lord, and renounce your corrupt ways.

ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਤੂੰ ਡਰਾਉਣੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਹੋ ਜਾ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।

The Gurmukh crosses over the terrifying world-ocean. ||1||Pause||
