Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji

ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਸਾਰਾ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਤਰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

by his grace, the whole world is saved.

ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੇ ਗੋਲੇ ਦੇ ਆਗਮਨ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਯੋਜਨ ਇਹ ਹੈ,

This is his purpose in life;

ਕਿ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੇ ਗੋਲੇ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਆਰਾਧਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

in the Company of this humble servant, the Lord's Name comes to mind.

ਉਹ ਖੁਦ ਬੰਦ-ਖਲਾਸ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਜਗਤ ਨੂੰ ਬੰਦ-ਖਲਾਸ ਕਰਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

He Himself is liberated, and He liberates the universe.

ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੇ ਉਸ ਨਫਰ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਨਕ, ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਹੀ, ਪ੍ਰਣਾਮ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

O Nanak, to that humble servant, I bow in reverence forever. ||8||23||

ਸਲੋਕ।

Salok:

ਮੈਂ ਮੁਕੰਮਲ ਮਾਲਕ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ, ਮੁਕੰਮਲ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ।

I worship and adore the Perfect Lord God. Perfect is His Name.

ਪੂਰਨ ਪੁਰਖ ਦਾ ਜੱਸ ਗਾਇਨ ਕਰਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਨੇ ਮੁਕੰਮਲ ਮਾਲਕ ਨੂੰ ਪਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।

O Nanak, I have obtained the Perfect One; I sing the Glorious Praises of the Perfect Lord. ||1||

ਅਸ਼ਟਪਦੀ।

Ashtapadee:

ਤੂੰ ਪੂਰਨ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਨੂੰ ਸ੍ਰਵਣ ਕਰ।

Listen to the Teachings of the Perfect Guru;

ਸ਼ਰੋਮਣੀ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਕਰਕੇ ਵੇਖ।

see the Supreme Lord God near you.

ਹਰ ਸੁਆਸ ਨਾਲ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦਾ ਆਰਾਧਨ ਕਰ।

With each and every breath, meditate in remembrance on the Lord of the Universe,

ਤੇਰੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਤੇ ਦਿਲ ਦਾ iਫ਼ਕਰ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ।

and the anxiety within your mind shall depart.

ਅਨ-ਸਥਿਰ ਖਾਹਿਸ਼ਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਲਹਿਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਦੇ,

Abandon the waves of fleeting desire,

ਅਤੇ ਸਾਧੂਆਂ ਦੇ ਪੈਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜ ਦੀ ਦਿਲੋ ਯਾਚਨਾ ਕਰ।

and pray for the dust of the feet of the Saints.

ਆਪਣੀ ਹੰਗਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਤਿਆਗ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਰਥਨਾ ਕਰ।

Renounce your selfishness and conceit and offer your prayers.

ਸਤਿ ਸੰਗਤ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਅੱਗ ਦੇ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਹੋ ਜਾ।

In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, cross over the ocean of fire.

ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੌਲਤ ਨਾਲ ਆਪਣੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਭਰਪੂਰ ਕਰ ਲੈ।

Fill your stores with the wealth of the Lord.

ਨਾਨਕ ਪੂਰਨ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬੰਦਨਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

Nanak bows in humility and reverence to the Perfect Guru. ||1||

ਮੁਕਤੀ, ਖੁਸ਼ੀ, ਸ਼ਾਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਪਰਸੰਨਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ,

Happiness, intuitive peace, poise and bliss

ਸਤਿ ਸੰਗਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਮਹਾਂ ਅਨੰਦ ਸਰੂਪ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ।

in the Company of the Holy, meditate on the Lord of supreme bliss.

ਦੋਜ਼ਕ ਤੋਂ ਬਚ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ ਤੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਆਤਮਾ ਪਾਰ ਉਤਰ ਜਾਏਗੀ,

You shall be spared from hell - save your soul!

ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੇ ਜੱਸ ਦੇ ਆਬਿ-ਹਿਯਾਤੀ ਅਰਕ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਨ ਕਰ।

Drink in the ambrosial essence of the Glorious Praises of the Lord of the Universe.

ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਅੰਦਰ ਇਕ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰ,

Focus your consciousness on the One, the All-pervading Lord

ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਸਰੂਪ ਇਕ ਤੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ ਹਨ।

He has One Form, but He has many manifestations.

ਉਹ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਦਾ ਪਾਲਣ-ਪੋਸਣਹਾਰ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੰਡ ਨੂੰ ਉਦਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਖਣਹਾਰ,

Sustainer of the Universe, Lord of the world, Kind to the poor,

ਗਰੀਬਾਂ ਤੇ ਮਿਹਰਬਾਨ, ਪੀੜ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਅਤੇ ਪੂਰਾ ਦਇਆਲੂ ਹੈ।

Destroyer of sorrow, perfectly Merciful.

ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਕੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਤੇ ਆਰਾਧਨ ਕਰ।

Meditate, meditate in remembrance on the Naam, again and again.

ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿੰਦੜੀ ਦਾ ਇਹੀ ਇਕੋ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ।

O Nanak, it is the Support of the soul. ||2||

ਸੰਤ ਦੇ ਕਥਨ ਸਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਹਨ।

The most sublime hymns are the Words of the Holy.

ਅਮੋਲਕ ਹਨ ਇਹ ਹੀਰੇ ਤੇ ਜਵਾਹਰ।

These are priceless rubies and gems.

ਜੋ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਣਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਤੇ ਅਮਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਬਚ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

One who listens and acts on them is saved.

ਉਹ ਖੁਦ ਤਰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਤੇ ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤਾਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

He himself swims across, and saves others as well.

ਫਲਦਾਇਕ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਜਿੰਦਗੀ ਅਤੇ ਲਾਭਦਾਇਕ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ,

His life is prosperous, and his company is fruitful;

ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਦਿਲ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਨਾਲ ਰੰਗੀਜਿਆ ਹੈ।

his mind is imbued with the love of the Lord.

ਸ਼ਾਬਾਸ਼, ਸ਼ਾਬਾਸ਼ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਜਿਸ ਲਈ ਬੈਕੁੰਠੀ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

Hail, hail to him, for whom the sound current of the Shabad vibrates.

ਉਹ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਇਕ ਰਸ ਸ੍ਰਵਨ ਕਰਦਾ, ਮੌਜਾਂ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੀ ਕੀਰਤੀ ਦਾ ਹੌਕਾ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

Hearing it again and again, he is in bliss, proclaiming God's Praises.

ਸੁਆਮੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਪੁਰਸ਼ ਦੇ ਮਸਤਕ ਉਤੇ ਜ਼ਾਹਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

The Lord radiates from the foreheads of the Holy.

ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਨਾਨਕ ਪਾਰ ਉਤਰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

Nanak is saved in their company. ||3||

ਇਹ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਕਿ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਪਨਾਹ-ਦੇਣ ਦੇ ਲਾਇਕ ਹੈ ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਪਨਾਹ ਲਈ ਹੈ।

Hearing that He can give Sanctuary, I have come seeking His Sanctuary.

ਆਪਣੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਧਾਰ ਕੇ, ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਇਕ-ਮਿਕ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।

Bestowing His Mercy, God has blended me with Himself.

ਮੇਰੀ ਦੁਸ਼ਮਨੀ ਚਲੀ ਗਈ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹਾਂ।

Hatred is gone, and I have become the dust of all.

ਸਤਿ ਸੰਗਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਮੈਂ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਮਈ ਨਾਮ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।

I have received the Ambrosial Naam in the Company of the Holy.

ਈਸ਼ਵਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਮੇਰੇ ਤੇ ਪਰਮ ਖੁਸ਼ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਹਨ,

The Divine Guru is perfectly pleased;

ਅਤੇ ਟਹਿਲੂਏ ਦੀ ਟਹਿਲ ਸਫਲ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਹੈ।

the service of His servant has been rewarded.

ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ਪੁਆੜਿਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਪਾਪਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬੱਚ ਗਿਆ ਹਾਂ,

I have been released from worldly entanglements and corruption,

ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਜੀਭਾ ਨਾਲ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਉਚਾਰਣ ਕਰਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ।

hearing the Lord's Name and chanting it with my tongue.

ਆਪ ਦੀ ਦਇਆ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਸਾਈਂ ਨੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ ਮਿਹਰ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ।

By His Grace, God has bestowed His Mercy.

ਨਾਨਕ, ਮੇਰਾ ਵੱਖਰ ਸਹੀ-ਸਲਾਮਤ ਪੁੱਜ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।

O Nanak, my merchandise has arrived save and sound. ||4||

ਹੇ ਮਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਸਾਧੂਓ! ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੀ ਮਹਿਮਾ ਗਾਇਨ ਕਰੋ,

Sing the Praises of God, O Saints, O friends,

ਚੇਤੰਨ ਅਤੇ ਇੱਕ ਮਨ ਹੋ ਕੇ।

with total concentration and one-pointedness of mind.

ਸੁਖਮਨੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਰਾਮ ਚੈਨ, ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦਾ ਜੱਸ ਅਤੇ ਨਾਮ ਹੈ।

Sukhmani is the peaceful ease, the Glory of God, the Naam.

ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਹ ਵਸਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਧਨਾਢ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

When it abides in the mind, one becomes wealthy.

ਉਸ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਖਾਹਿਸ਼ਾ ਪੂਰੀਆਂ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ।

All desires are fulfilled.

ਉਹ ਮੁਖੀਆਂ ਪੁਰਸ਼ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਅੰਦਰ ਉੱਘਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

One becomes the most respected person, famous all over the world.

ਉਹ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚਾ ਟਿਕਾਣਾ ਪਾ ਲੈਦਾ ਹੈ।

He obtains the highest place of all.

ਉਹ ਮੁੜ ਕੇ, ਆਉਂਦਾ ਤੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ।

He does not come and go in reincarnation any longer.

ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦੌਲਤ ਕਮਾ ਕੇ ਟੁਰਦਾ ਹੈ,

One who departs, after earning the wealth of the Lord's Name,

ਨਾਨਕ, ਜੋ (ਸੁਖਮਨੀ ਨੂੰ) ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

O Nanak, realizes it. ||5||

ਆਰਾਮ ਚੈਨ, ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ, ਦੌਲਤ ਨੋਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਸੋਚ ਸਮਝ,

Comfort, peace and tranquility, wealth and the nine treasures;

ਬ੍ਰਹਿਮ ਵੀਚਾਰ, ਸਮੂਹ ਤਤਪਰ ਕਰਾਮਾਤੀ ਸ਼ਕਤੀਆਂ,

wisdom, knowledge, and all spiritual powers;

ਇਲਮ, ਤਪੱਸਿਆ, ਮਾਲਕ ਦਾ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਅਤੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ,

learning, penance, Yoga and meditation on God;
