Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji

ਉਤਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟਤ ਰੱਬੀ ਗਿਆਤ, ਸਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਨ੍ਹਾਉਣੇ ਧੋਣੇ;

The most sublime wisdom and purifying baths;

ਚਾਰ ਉੱਤਮ ਦਾਤਾਂ, ਦਿਲ ਕੰਵਲ ਦਾ ਖਿੜਨਾ,

the four cardinal blessings, the opening of the heart-lotus;

ਸਮੁਹ ਅੰਦਰ ਰਹਿੰਦਿਆਂ ਹੋਇਆ ਸਮੂਹ ਤੋਂ ਨਿਰਲੇਪਤਾ;

in the midst of all, and yet detached from all;

ਖੂਬਸੂਰਤ, ਪ੍ਰਬੀਨ ਤੇ ਅਸਲੀਅਤ ਦਾ ਜਾਣੂ,

beauty, intelligence, and the realization of reality;

ਇਕ ਸਾਰ ਵੇਖਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਅਤੇ ਇਕ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਦੇਖਣਹਾਰ,

to look impartially upon all, and to see only the One

ਇਹ ਦਾਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਇਨਸਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ,

- these blessings come to one who,

ਜੋ ਆਪਣੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਨਾਲ (ਸੁਖਮਨੀ ਦਾ) ਉਚਾਰਣ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਮਹਿਮਾ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਦਿਲ ਲਾ ਕੇ ਸੁਣਦਾ ਹੈ।

through Guru Nanak, chants the Naam with his mouth, and hears the Word with his ears. ||6||

ਕੋਈ ਜੀਵ ਇਸ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਦਾ ਦਿਲੋ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰੇ।

One who chants this treasure in his mind

ਉਹ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਯੁਗਾਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ।

in every age, he attains salvation.

ਇਹ ਰਚਨਾ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦਾ ਜੱਸ ਅਤੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਅਲਾਪ ਹੈ,

In it is the Glory of God, the Naam, the chanting of Gurbani.

ਜਿਸ ਬਾਰੇ ਸਿਮ੍ਰਤੀਆਂ, ਸ਼ਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਅਤੇ ਵੇਦ ਜ਼ਿਕਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।

The Simritees, the Shaastras and the Vedas speak of it.

ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਮਜ਼ਹਬਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਾਰ-ਤੱਤ, ਸਿਰਫ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਹੈ।

The essence of all religion is the Lord's Name alone.

ਇਹ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਰਧਾਲੂ ਦੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ।

It abides in the minds of the devotees of God.

ਕ੍ਰੋੜਾਂ ਹੀ ਪਾਪ ਸਤਿਸੰਗਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਨਾਸ (ਮਾਫ) ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।

Millions of sins are erased, in the Company of the Holy.

ਸਾਧੂ ਦੀ ਦਇਆ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਬੰਦਾ ਮੌਤ ਦੇ ਦੂਤ ਤੋਂ ਬਚ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

By the Grace of the Saint, one escapes the Messenger of Death.

ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉਤੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨੇ ਐਸੇ ਭਾਗ ਲਿਖੇ ਹਨ,

Those, who have such pre-ordained destiny on their foreheads,

ਉਹ ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਸਾਧੂਆਂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਣਾਗਤ ਸੰਭਾਲਦੇ ਹਨ।

O Nanak, enter the Sanctuary of the Saints. ||7||

ਉਹ ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਤਰ ਆਤਮੇ ਸੁਖਮਨੀ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਰੱਖਦੀ ਹੈ,

One, within whose mind it abides, and who listens to it with love

ਅਤੇ ਜੋ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਨਾਲ ਸ੍ਰਵਣ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਮਾਲਕ ਨੂੰ ਚੇਤੇ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

that humble person consciously remembers the Lord God.

ਉਸ ਦੇ ਜੰਮਣ ਤੇ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਦੁਖੜੇ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।

The pains of birth and death are removed.

ਐਨ ਔਖਾ ਹੱਥ ਲੱਗਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸਰੀਰ (ਜੀਵਨਂ) ਤੱਤਪਰ ਸੁਰਖਰੂ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

The human body, so difficult to obtain, is instantly redeemed.

ਬੇਦਾਗ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸੁਹਰਤ ਅਤੇ ਮਿੱਠੜੀ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਬੋਲੀ।

Spotlessly pure is his reputation, and ambrosial is his speech.

ਕੇਵਲ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਤਰ-ਆਤਮੇ ਰਮਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।

The One Name permeates his mind.

ਗਮ, ਬੀਮਾਰੀ, ਡਰ ਤੇ ਸੰਦੇਹ ਉਸ ਕੋਲੋ ਦੁਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।

Sorrow, sickness, fear and doubt depart.

ਸੰਤ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਪੈ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅਮਲ ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ।

He is called a Holy person; his actions are immaculate and pure.

ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਮਾਨ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਸ਼ਟਾ।

His glory becomes the highest of all.

ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇਕੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਸਬੱਬ ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਇਹ ਆਰਾਮ ਚੈਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਆਖੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।

O Nanak, by these Glorious Virtues, this is named Sukhmani, Peace of mind. ||8||24||

ਗਉੜੀ, ਤਿੱਥਾਂ ਪੰਜਵੀਂ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ।

ਸਲੋਕ।

Salok:

ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਕੇਵਲ ਇਕ ਹੈ। ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਦਇਆ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:

ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਕਰਤਾਰ, ਪਾਣੀ, ਧਰਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਅਸਮਾਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਮਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।

The Creator Lord and Master is pervading the water, the land, and the sky.

ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਤਰੀਕਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਇਕ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਖਿਲਾਰਿਆਂ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।

In so many ways, the One, the Universal Creator has diffused Himself, O Nanak. ||1||

ਪਉੜੀ।

Pauree:

ਪਹਿਲੀ ਤਿੱਥ-ਅਦੁੱਤੀ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨੂੰ ਨਿਮਸਕਾਰ ਕਰ ਅਤੇ ਉਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਆਰਾਧ।

The first day of the lunar cycle: Bow in humility and meditate on the One, the Universal Creator Lord God.

ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਨੂੰ ਥੰਮਣਹਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਆਲਮ ਦੇ ਪਾਲਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦਾ ਜੱਸ ਗਾਇਨ ਕਰ ਅਤੇ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਣਾਗਤ ਸੰਭਾਲ।

Praise God, the Lord of the Universe, the Sustainer of the World; seek the Sanctuary of the Lord, our King.

ਮੋਖਸ਼ ਤੇ ਆਰਾਮ ਪਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਉਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਪਣੀ ਉਮੀਦ ਬੰਨ੍ਹ ਜਿਸ ਤੋਂ ਹਰ ਸ਼ੈ ਉਤਪੰਨ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।

Place your hopes in Him, for salvation and peace; all things come from Him.

ਮੈਂ ਚਾਰੇ ਪਾਸੇ ਅਤੇ ਦਸੀ ਤਰਫੀ ਭਟਕਿਆਂ ਹਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਬਾਝੋਂ ਹੋਰ ਨਿਗ੍ਹਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਿਆ।

I wandered around the four corners of the world and in the ten directions, but I saw nothing except Him.

ਵੇਦਾ, ਪੁਰਾਣਾ ਅਤੇ ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਤੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਘਣੇਰਿਆਂ ਤਰੀਕਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਸੋਚ ਵੀਚਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ।

I listened to the Vedas, the Puraanas and the Simritees, and I pondered over them in so many ways.

ਕੇਵਲ ਸਰੂਪ-ਰਹਿਤ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਹੀ ਪਾਪੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਤਾਰਣ ਵਾਲਾ, ਡਰ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਨਹਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਆਰਾਮ ਦਾ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਹੈ।

The Saving Grace of sinners, the Destroyer of fear, the Ocean of peace, the Formless Lord.

ਉਹ ਬਖਸ਼ਸ਼ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ, ਭੋਗਣਹਾਰ ਤੇ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ। ਉਸ ਦੇ ਬਗੈਰ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਥਾਂ ਨਹੀਂ।

The Great Giver, the Enjoyer, the Bestower - there is no place at all without Him.

ਨਾਨਕ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ ਸ਼ਲਾਘਾ ਗਾਇਨ ਕਰਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਸਾਰਾ ਕੁਛ, ਜੋ ਬੰਦਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਾ ਲੈਦਾ ਹੈ।

You shall obtain all that you desire, O Nanak, singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||1||

ਨਿਤਾ ਪ੍ਰਤੀ, ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦੇ ਰਖਿਅਕ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਰੇਸ਼ਟਤਾਈਆਂ ਗਾਇਨ ਕਰ।

Sing the Praises of the Lord, the Lord of the Universe, each and every day.

ਸਤਿ ਸੰਗਤ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਤੂੰ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰ, ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਿੱਤ੍ਰ! ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।

Join the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, and vibrate, meditate on Him, O my friend. ||1||Pause||

ਸਲੋਕ।

Salok:

ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਵਾਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਣਾਮ ਕਰ ਅਤੇ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਦੀ ਪਨਾਹ ਲੈ।

Bow in humility to the Lord, over and over again, and enter the Sanctuary of the Lord, our King.

ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਸਤਿ ਸੰਗਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਸੰਦੇਹ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰਸ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ।

Doubt is eradicated, O Nanak, in the Company of the Holy, and the love of duality is eliminated. ||2||

ਪਉੜੀ।

Pauree:

ਦੂਜੀ ਤਿੱਥ-ਆਪਣੀ ਮੰਦੀ ਅਕਲ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਦੇ ਅਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਟਹਿਲ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰ।

The second day of the lunar cycle: Get rid of your evil-mindedness, and serve the Guru continually.

ਮਿਥਨ ਹੁਲਾਸ, ਗੁੱਸੇ ਅਤੇ ਲਾਲਚ ਨੂੰ ਤਿਆਗਣ ਦੁਆਰਾ, ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਜਵੇਹਰ, ਤੇਰੀ ਆਤਮਾ ਤੇ ਦੇਹਿ ਵਿੱਚ ਆ ਟਿਕੇਗਾ, ਹੇ ਮਿੱਤ੍ਰ!

The jewel of the Lord's Name shall come to dwell in your mind and body, when you renounce sexual desire, anger and greed, O my friend.

ਤੂੰ ਮੌਤ ਤੇ ਜਿੱਤ ਪਾ ਲਵੇਗਾ, ਅਮਰ ਜੀਵਨ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ ਤੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੁਖ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਣਗੇ।

Conquer death and obtain eternal life; all your troubles will depart.

ਆਪਣੀ ਸਵੈ-ਹੰਗਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਦੇ, ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰ ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਮਈ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਅੰਦਰ ਦਾਖਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਵੇਗੀ।

Renounce your self-conceit and vibrate upon the Lord of the Universe; loving devotion to Him shall permeate your being.
