ਲਾਭੁ ਮਿਲੈ. ਤੋਟਾ ਹਿਰੈ; ਹਰਿ ਦਰਗਹ ਪਤਿਵੰਤ ॥

ਤੂੰ ਨਫਾ ਖਟ ਲਵੇਗਾ, ਤੈਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਖਸਾਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਣਾ ਅਤੇ ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਅੰਦਰ ਤੂੰ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਪਾਵੇਗਾ।
You shall earn profit and suffer no loss, and in the Court of the Lord you shall be honored.
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਧਨੁ ਸੰਚਵੈ; ਸਾਚ ਸਾਹ ਭਗਵੰਤ ॥

ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਤੇ ਸੱਚਾ ਅਮੀਰ ਉਹ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦੌਲਤ ਇਕੱਤ੍ਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
Those who gather in the riches of the Lord's Name are truly wealthy, and very blessed.
ਊਠਤ ਬੈਠਤ ਹਰਿ ਭਜਹੁ; ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਿ ਪਰੀਤਿ ॥

ਖਲੋਦਿਆਂ ਤੇ ਬਹਿੰਦਿਆਂ ਤੂੰ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿ ਸੰਗਤ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਪਾ।
So, when standing up and sitting down, vibrate upon the Lord, and cherish the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.
ਨਾਨਕ. ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਛੁਟਿ ਗਈ; ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਬਸੇ ਚੀਤਿ ॥੨॥

O Nanak, evil-mindedness is eradicated, when the Supreme Lord God comes to dwell in the mind. ||2||

ਤੀਨਿ ਬਿਆਪਹਿ ਜਗਤ ਕਉ; ਤੁਰੀਆ ਪਾਵੈ ਕੋਇ ॥

ਤਿੰਨ ਲੱਛਣ ਦੁਨੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੁੱਖੀ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਹੀ ਪਰਸੰਨਤਾ ਦੀ ਚੋਥੀ ਦਸ਼ਾ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
The world is in the grip of the three qualities; only a few attain the fourth state of absorption.
ਨਾਨਕ. ਸੰਤ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਭਏ; ਜਿਨ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਸੋਇ ॥੩॥

ਤੀਜੀ ਤਿਥ-ਤਿੰਨਾਂ ਸੁਭਾਵਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਜ਼ਹਿਰ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮੇਵੇ ਵਜੋਂ ਇਕੰਠਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਹੁਣੇ ਉਹ ਚੰਗੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਹੁਣੇ ਹੀ ਮੰਦੇ।
The third day of the lunar cycle: Those who are bound by the three qualities gather poison as their fruit; now they are good, and now they are bad.
ਨਰਕ ਸੁਰਗ ਭ੍ਰਮਤਉ ਘਣੋ; ਸਦਾ ਸੰਘਾਰੈ ਮੀਚੁ ॥

ਉਹ ਦੋਜ਼ਕ ਅਤੇ ਬਹਿਸ਼ਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਬਹੁਤ ਭਟਕਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਮੌਤ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਹੀ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਤਿਆਨਾਸ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ।
They wander endlessly in heaven and hell, until death annihilates them.
ਹਰਖ ਸੋਗ ਸਹਸਾ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ; ਹਉ ਹਉ ਕਰਤ ਬਿਹਾਇ ॥
harakh sog sahasaa sansaar; hau hau karat bihaae |
ਜਗਤ ਦੀ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ, ਗ਼ਮੀ ਅਤੇ ਵਹਿਮ ਦੇ ਪਕੜੇ ਹੋਏ ਉਹ ਆਪਣਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਗੁਜ਼ਾਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
In pleasure and pain and worldly cynicism, they pass their lives acting in ego.
ਜਿਨਿ ਕੀਏ. ਤਿਸਹਿ ਨ ਜਾਣਨੀ; ਚਿਤਵਹਿ ਅਨਿਕ ਉਪਾਇ ॥

ਉਹ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦੇ, ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਰਚਿਆ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਤਦਬੀਰਾਂ ਸੋਚਦੇ ਹਨ।
They do not know the One who created them; they think up all sorts of schemes and plans.
ਆਧਿ ਬਿਆਧਿ ਉਪਾਧਿ ਰਸ; ਕਬਹੁ. ਨ ਤੂਟੈ ਤਾਪ ॥

ਉਹ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਦੇਹਿ ਦੀਆਂ ਪੀੜਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਖੁਸ਼ੀਆਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਗਰਕ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ (ਚਿੰਤਾ ਦਾ)ਂ ਬੁਖਾਰ ਕਦਾਚਿੱਤ ਦੂਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ।
Their minds and bodies are distracted by pleasure and pain, and their fever never departs.
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਪੂਰਨ ਧਨੀ; ਨਹ ਬੂਝੈ ਪਰਤਾਪ ॥

ਉਹ ਪਰਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ, ਮੁਕੰਮਲ ਮਾਲਕ ਦੇ ਤਪ ਤੇਜ ਨੂੰ ਅਨੁਭਵ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੇ।
They do not realize the glorious radiance of the Supreme Lord God, the Perfect Lord and Master.
ਮੋਹ ਭਰਮ ਬੂਡਤ ਘਣੋ; ਮਹਾ ਨਰਕ ਮਹਿ ਵਾਸ ॥

ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ਮਮਤਾ ਤੇ ਸੰਦੇਹ ਅੰਦਰ ਬਹੁਤੇ ਡੁਬ ਗਏ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਕੁੰਭੀ ਦੋਜ਼ਕ ਅੰਦਰ ਉਹ ਵਸੇਬਾ ਪਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
So many are being drowned in emotional attachment and doubt; they dwell in the most horrible hell.
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਰਾਖਿ ਲੇਹੁ; ਨਾਨਕ. ਤੇਰੀ ਆਸ ॥੩॥

ਮਿਹਰ ਧਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰ, ਹੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ! ਨਾਨਕ ਦੀ ਉਮੀਦ ਤੇਰੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੈ।
Please bless me with Your Mercy, God, and save me! Nanak places his hopes in You. ||3||

ਚਤੁਰ ਸਿਆਣਾ ਸੁਘੜੁ ਸੋਇ; ਜਿਨਿ ਤਜਿਆ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ॥
chatur siaanaa sugharr soe; jin tajiaa abhimaan |
ਜੋ ਆਪਣੇ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਅਕਲਮੰਦ, ਦਾਨਾ ਅਤੇ ਕਾਮਲ ਹੈ।
One who renounces egotistical pride is intelligent, wise and refined.
ਚਾਰਿ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਅਸਟ ਸਿਧਿ; ਭਜੁ ਨਾਨਕ. ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ॥੪॥

ਨਾਨਕ, ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਚਾਰ ਉੱਤਮ ਦਾਤਾਂ ਤੇ ਅੱਠ ਕਰਾਮਾਤੀ ਸ਼ਕਤੀਆਂ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ।
The four cardinal blessings, and the eight spiritual powers of the Siddhas are obtained, O Nanak, by meditating, vibrating on the Lord's Name. ||4||

ਚੋਥੀ ਤਿੱਥ-ਚਾਰੇ ਵੇਦ ਸ੍ਰਵਣ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਅਸਲੀਅਤ ਨੂੰ ਸੋਚ ਸਮਝ ਕੇ,
The fourth day of the lunar cycle: Listening to the four Vedas, and contemplating the essence of reality, I have come to realize
ਸਰਬ ਖੇਮ ਕਲਿਆਣ ਨਿਧਿ; ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਿ ਸਾਰੁ ॥
sarab khem kaliaan nidh; raam naam jap saar |
ਮੈਂ ਨਿਰਣਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਸਿਮਰਨ, ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਖੁਸ਼ੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਹੈ।
that the treasure of all joy and comfort is found in sublime meditation on the Lord's Name.
ਨਰਕ ਨਿਵਾਰੈ. ਦੁਖ ਹਰੈ; ਤੂਟਹਿ ਅਨਿਕ ਕਲੇਸ ॥

ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕੀਰਤੀ ਅੰਦਰ ਲੀਨ ਹੋਣ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਦੋਜ਼ਕ ਨਵਿਰਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
One is saved from hell, suffering is destroyed, countless pains depart,
ਮੀਚੁ ਹੁਟੈ. ਜਮ ਤੇ ਛੁਟੈ; ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਪਰਵੇਸ ॥

ਤਕਲੀਫ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਘਨੇਰੇ ਦੁਖੜੇ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਮੌਤ ਜਿਤੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਕਿਉਂ ਜੁ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਮੌਤ ਦੇ ਦੂਤਾਂ ਕੋਲੋ ਬੱਚ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
death is overcome, and one escapes the Messenger of Death, by absorption in the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises.
ਭਉ ਬਿਨਸੈ. ਅੰਮਿ੍ਰਤੁ ਰਸੈ; ਰੰਗਿ ਰਤੇ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ॥

ਸਰੂਪ-ਰਹਿਤ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਨਾਲ ਰੰਗੀਜਣ ਦੁਆਰਾ, ਬੰਦੇ ਦਾ ਡਰ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਆਬਿ-ਹਿਯਾਤ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ।
Fear departs, and one savors the Ambrosial Nectar, imbued with the Love of the Formless Lord.
ਦੁਖ ਦਾਰਿਦ ਅਪਵਿਤ੍ਰਤਾ; ਨਾਸਹਿ. ਨਾਮ ਅਧਾਰ ॥
dukh daarid apavitrataa; naaseh. naam adhaar |
ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਆਸਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਦਰਦ, ਗਰੀਬੀ ਅਤੇ ਪਲੀਤੀ ਨਸ਼ਟ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
Pain, poverty and impurity are removed, with the Support of the Naam, the Name of the Lord.
ਸੁਰਿ ਨਰ. ਮੁਨਿ ਜਨ ਖੋਜਤੇ; ਸੁਖ ਸਾਗਰ ਗੋਪਾਲ ॥

ਦੇਵਤੇ, ਇਨਸਾਨ ਅਤੇ ਚੁਪ ਕੀਤੇ ਰਿਸ਼ੀ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਦੇ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ, ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੀ ਭਾਲ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
The angels, the seers and the silent sages search for the Ocean of peace, the Sustainer of the world.
ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਮੁਖੁ ਊਜਲਾ; ਹੋਇ ਨਾਨਕ. ਸਾਧ ਰਵਾਲ ॥੪॥
man niramal mukh aoojalaa; hoe naanak. saadh ravaal |4|
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜ ਚੋਣ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਹਿਰਦਾ ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਅਤੇ ਚਿਹਰਾ ਰੋਸ਼ਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
The mind becomes pure, and one's face is radiant, O Nanak, when one becomes the dust of the feet of the Holy. ||4||

The five evil passions dwell in the mind of one who is engrossed in Maya.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਹੋਇ ਨਿਰਮਲਾ; ਨਾਨਕ. ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੈ ਰੰਗਿ ॥੫॥

In the Saadh Sangat, one becomes pure, O Nanak, imbued with the Love of God. ||5||

ਪੰਜਵੀਂ ਥਿੱਤ-ਓਹੀ ਚੁਣੇ ਹੋਏ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਮੁਖੀਏ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਦੇ ਮਨੋਰਥ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਦੇ ਹਨ।
The fifth day of the lunar cycle: They are the self-elect, the most distinguished, who know the true nature of the world.
ਕੁਸਮ ਬਾਸ. ਬਹੁ ਰੰਗੁ ਘਣੋ; ਸਭ ਮਿਥਿਆ ਬਲਬੰਚੁ ॥

ਫੁੱਲਾਂ ਦੀ ਬਹੁਤੀ ਮਹਿਕ ਅਤੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਰੰਗਾਂ ਦੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਮੂਹ ਵਲਛਲ ਕੂੜੇ ਹਨ।
The many colors and scents of flowers - all worldly deceptions are transitory and false.
ਨਹ ਜਾਪੈ. ਨਹ ਬੂਝੀਐ; ਨਹ ਕਛੁ ਕਰਤ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥

ਆਦਮੀ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਉਹ ਅਸਲੀਅਤ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ, ਨਾਂ ਹੀ ਉਹ ਥੋੜਾਂ ਜਿੰਨਾ ਭੀ ਸੋਚਦਾ ਵੀਚਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
People do not see, and they do not understand; they do not reflect upon anything.
ਸੁਆਦ ਮੋਹ ਰਸ ਬੇਧਿਓ; ਅਗਿਆਨਿ ਰਚਿਓ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥
suaad moh ras bedhio; agiaan rachio sansaar |
ਦੁਨੀਆਂ ਸੁਆਦਾ, ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ਮਮਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਰੰਗ-ਰਲੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਵਿੰਨ੍ਹੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਬੇਸਮਝੀ ਅੰਦਰ ਗਲਤਾਨ ਹੈ।
The world is pierced through with attachment to tastes and pleasures, engrossed in ignorance.
ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ. ਬਹੁ ਜੋਨਿ ਭ੍ਰਮਣ; ਕੀਨੇ ਕਰਮ ਅਨੇਕ ॥
janam maran. bahu jon bhraman; keene karam anek |
ਉਹ ਆਵਾਗਉਣ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਬਹੁਤੀਆਂ ਜੂਨੀਆਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਭਟਕਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜੋ ਘਣੇਰੇ ਧਾਰਮਕ ਸੰਸਕਾਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ,
Those who perform empty religious rituals will be born, only to die again. They wander through endless incarnations.
ਰਚਨਹਾਰੁ. ਨਹ ਸਿਮਰਿਓ; ਮਨਿ. ਨ ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ਬਿਬੇਕ ॥
rachanahaar. neh simario; man. na beechaar bibek |
ਪ੍ਰੰਤੂ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਜਰ ਦਾ ਆਰਾਧਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੇ ਅਤੇ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਈਸ਼ਵਰੀ ਪਰਬੀਨਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ।
They do not meditate in remembrance on the Creator Lord; their minds do not understand.
ਭਾਉ ਭਗਤਿ ਭਗਵਾਨ ਸੰਗਿ; ਮਾਇਆ ਲਿਪਤ ਨ. ਰੰਚ ॥
bhaau bhagat bhagavaan sang; maaeaa lipat na. ranch |
ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਅਨੁਰਾਗ ਅਤੇ ਸੰਗਤ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤ, ਧਨ-ਦੌਲਤ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਭੋਰਾ ਭਰ ਭੀ ਪਲੀਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ।
By loving devotion to the Lord God, you shall not be polluted by Maya at all.
ਨਾਨਕ. ਬਿਰਲੇ ਪਾਈਅਹਿ; ਜੋ. ਨ ਰਚਹਿ ਪਰਪੰਚ ॥੫॥

ਨਾਨਕ ਬਹੁਤ ਹੀ ਥੋੜੇ ਐਸੇ ਪੁਰਸ਼ ਮਿਲਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜੋ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਅੰਦਰ ਖਚਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੇ।
O Nanak, how rare are those, who are not engrossed in worldly entanglements. ||5||

ਖਟ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ. ਊਚੌ ਕਹਹਿ; ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਰਾਵਾਰ ॥

ਫਲਸਫ਼ੇ ਦੇ ਛੇ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਪੁਕਾਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਉਚੱਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਉਰਲੇ ਤੇ ਪਾਰਲੇ ਕਿਨਾਰੇ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਓੜਕ ਨਹੀਂ।
The six Shaastras proclaim Him to be the greatest; He has no end or limitation.
ਭਗਤ ਸੋਹਹਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਤੇ; ਨਾਨਕ. ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੈ ਦੁਆਰ ॥੬॥

ਨਾਨਕ, ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੇ ਬੂਹੇ ਉਤੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਜੱਸ ਆਲਾਪਦੇ ਹੋਏ, ਸੰਤ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ।
The devotees look beauteous, O Nanak, when they sing the Glories of God at His Door. ||6||
