ਊਤਮੁ ਊਚੌ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ; ਗੁਣ. ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਸੇਖ ॥
aootam aoochau paarabraham; gun. ant na jaaneh sekh |
ਜਿਸ ਦੀਆਂ ਨੇਕੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਓੜਕ ਹਜ਼ਾਰਾਂ ਮੂੰਹਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਸ਼ੇਸ਼ਨਾਗ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦਾ।
that the Supreme Lord God is the most sublime and lofty. Even the thousand-tongued serpent does not know the limits of His Glories.
ਨਾਰਦ ਮੁਨਿ ਜਨ ਸੁਕ ਬਿਆਸ; ਜਸੁ ਗਾਵਤ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ॥

ਨਾਰਦ, ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਪੁਰਸ਼, ਸੁਕ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਆਸ, ਧਰਤੀ ਦੇ ਰਖਿਅਕ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੀ ਕੀਰਤੀ ਗਾਇਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
Naarad, the humble beings, Suk and Vyaasa sing the Praises of the Lord of the Universe.
ਰਸ ਗੀਧੇ. ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਬੀਧੇ; ਭਗਤ ਰਚੇ ਭਗਵੰਤ ॥
ras geedhe. har siau beedhe; bhagat rache bhagavant |
ਉਹ ਨਾਮ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਲ ਰਚੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ, ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਅੰਦਰ ਲੀਨ ਹਨ।
They are imbued with the Lord's essence; united with Him; they are absorbed in devotional worship of the Lord God.
ਮੋਹ ਮਾਨ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਬਿਨਸਿਓ; ਪਾਈ ਸਰਨਿ ਦਇਆਲ ॥

ਮਿਹਰਬਾਨ ਮਾਲਕ ਦੀ ਪਨਾਹ ਲੈਣ ਦੁਆਰਾ, ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ਲਗਨ, ਹੰਕਾਰ ਤੇ ਸੰਦੇਹ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
Emotional attachment, pride and doubt are eliminated, when one takes to the Sanctuary of the Merciful Lord.
ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਬਸੇ; ਦਰਸਨੁ ਦੇਖਿ ਨਿਹਾਲ ॥

ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੇ ਚਰਨ ਕੰਵਲ ਮੇਰੀ ਆਤਮਾ ਤੇ ਦੇਹਿ ਅੰਦਰ ਵਸਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਦੀਦਾਰ ਤੱਕ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹਾਂ।
His Lotus Feet abide within my mind and body and I am enraptured, beholding the Blessed Vision of His Darshan.
ਲਾਭੁ ਮਿਲੈ. ਤੋਟਾ ਹਿਰੈ; ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥

ਸਤਿ ਸੰਗਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਰਹੜੀ ਪਾਉਣ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਬੰਦਾ ਨਫ਼ਾ ਖੱਟਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਨੁਕਸਾਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਉਠਾਉਂਦਾ।
People reap their profits, and suffer no loss, when they embrace love for the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.
ਖਾਟਿ ਖਜਾਨਾ ਗੁਣ ਨਿਧਿ ਹਰੇ; ਨਾਨਕ. ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ॥੬॥

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਆਰਾਧਨ ਕਰਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ, ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਚੰਗਿਆਈਆਂ ਦੇ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
They gather in the treasure of the Lord, the Ocean of Excellence, O Nanak, by meditating on the Naam. ||6||

ਸਾਧੂਆਂ ਦੀ ਮਜਲਸ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਵਾਦ ਵਰਨਣ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਨਾਲ ਸੱਚ ਬੋਲਦੀ ਹੈ।
In the gathering of the Saints, chant the Praises of the Lord, and speak the Truth with love.
ਨਾਨਕ. ਮਨੁ ਸੰਤੋਖੀਐ; ਏਕਸੁ ਸਿਉ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥੭॥

O Nanak, the mind becomes contented, enshrining love for the One Lord. ||7||

ਸੱਤਵੀਂ ਥਿਤ-ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦੌਲਤ ਜਮ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਰ। ਇਹ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਮੁੱਕਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ।
The seventh day of the lunar cycle: Gather the wealth of the Naam; this is a treasure which shall never be exhausted.
ਸੰਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਹਿ ਪਾਈਐ; ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਰਾਵਾਰ ॥
santasangat meh paaeeai; ant na paaraavaar |
ਸੁਆਮੀ ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਓੜਕ ਜਾਂ ਹੱਦਬੰਨਾ ਨਹੀਂ, ਸਾਧ ਸਮੇਲਨ ਅੰਦਰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
In the Society of the Saints, He is obtained; He has no end or limitations.
ਆਪੁ ਤਜਹੁ. ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਭਜਹੁ; ਸਰਨਿ ਪਰਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇ ॥

ਆਪਣੀ ਸਵੈ-ਹੰਗਤਾ ਛੱਡ ਦੇ, ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰ ਅਤੇ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਣਾਗਤ ਸੰਭਾਲ।
Renounce your selfishness and conceit, and meditate, vibrate on the Lord of the Universe; take to the Sanctuary of the Lord, our King.
ਦੂਖ ਹਰੈ. ਭਵਜਲੁ ਤਰੈ; ਮਨ ਚਿੰਦਿਆ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਇ ॥
dookh harai. bhavajal tarai; man chindiaa fal paae |
ਤੇਰਾ ਦੁੱਖੜਾ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਏਗਾ, ਤੂੰ ਭਿਆਨਕ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਉਤਰ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ ਅਤੇ ਦਿਲ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਮੇਵਾ ਪਾ ਲਵੇਗਾ।
Your pains shall depart - swim across the terrifying world-ocean, and obtain the fruits of your mind's desires.
ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਮਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਪੈ; ਸਫਲੁ ਜਨਮੁ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥
aatth pehar man har japai; safal janam paravaan |
ਲਾਭਦਾਇਕ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਮਾਣੀਕ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਆਗਮਨ, ਜੋ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਦੀ ਦਿਲੋਂ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਆਰਾਧਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
One who meditates on the Lord twenty-four hours a day - fruitful and blessed is his coming into the world.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੰਗਿ; ਕਰਨੈਹਾਰੁ ਪਛਾਣੁ ॥
antar baahar sadaa sang; karanaihaar pachhaan |
ਅੰਦਰ ਤੇ ਬਾਹਰ, ਸਦੀਵ ਹੀ, ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਅਨੁਭਵ ਕਰ।
Inwardly and outwardly, realize that the Creator Lord is always with you.
ਸੋ ਸਾਜਨੁ. ਸੋ ਸਖਾ ਮੀਤੁ; ਜੋ. ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਮਤਿ ਦੇਇ ॥

ਉਹੀ ਦੋਸਤ, ਓਹੀ ਸਾਥੀ ਤੇ ਮਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਹੈ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਈਸ਼ਵਰੀ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
He is your friend, your companion, your very best friend, who imparts the Teachings of the Lord.
ਨਾਨਕ. ਤਿਸੁ ਬਲਿਹਾਰਣੈ; ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪੇਇ ॥੭॥

ਨਾਨਕ ਉਸ ਉਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਉਚਾਰਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
Nanak is a sacrifice to one who chants the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. ||7||

ਹੋਰ ਪੁਆੜੇ ਛੱਡ ਦੇ ਅਤੇ ਦਿਨ ਦੇ ਅੱਠੇ ਪਹਿਰ ਹੀ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕੀਰਤੀ ਗਾਇਨ ਕਰ।
Sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord twenty-four hours a day; renounce other entanglements.
ਜਮਕੰਕਰੁ. ਜੋਹਿ ਨ ਸਕਈ; ਨਾਨਕ. ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਇਆਲ ॥੮॥

ਜਿਸ ਇਨਸਾਨ ਤੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਮਿਹਰਬਾਨ ਹੈ, ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਦੂਤ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਤੱਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ।
The Minister of Death cannot even see that person, O Nanak, unto whom God is merciful. ||8||

The eighth day of the lunar cycle: The eight spiritual powers of the Siddhas, the nine treasures,
ਸਗਲ ਪਦਾਰਥ; ਪੂਰਨ ਬੁਧਿ ॥

ਸਮੂਹ ਵਡਮੁੱਲੀਆਂ ਵਸਤੂਆਂ, ਮੁਕੰਮਲ ਅਕਲ,
all precious things, perfect intellect,
ਕਵਲ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸ ਸਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ॥
kaval pragaas sadaa aanand |
ਦਿਲ ਕਮਲ ਦਾ ਖਿੜਾਓ, ਸਦੀਵੀ ਪਰਸੰਨਤਾ,
the opening of the heart-lotus, eternal bliss,
ਨਿਰਮਲ ਰੀਤਿ; ਨਿਰੋਧਰ ਮੰਤ ॥
niramal reet; nirodhar mant |
ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਜੀਵਨ ਰਹੁਰੀਤੀ, ਅਚੂਕ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼,
pure lifestyle, the infallible Mantra,
ਸਗਲ ਧਰਮ; ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਇਸਨਾਨੁ ॥
sagal dharam; pavitr isanaan |
ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਨੇਕੀਆਂ, ਨਿਰਮਲ ਨ੍ਹਾਉਣੇ,
all Dharmic virtues, sacred purifying baths,
ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਊਚ; ਬਿਸੇਖ ਗਿਆਨੁ ॥
sabh meh aooch; bisekh giaan |
ਅਤੇ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚਾ ਅਤੇ ਸਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ-ਬੋਧ,
the most lofty and sublime spiritual wisdom
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਭਜਨੁ; ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਸੰਗਿ ॥
har har bhajan; poore gur sang |
ਮੁਕੰਮਲ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
these are obtained by meditating, vibrating upon the Lord, Har, Har, in the Company of the Perfect Guru.
ਜਪਿ ਤਰੀਐ ਨਾਨਕ; ਨਾਮ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗਿ ॥੮॥

ਪਿਆਰ ਨਾਲ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ, ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਬੰਦਾ ਪਾਰ ਉਤਰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
You shall be saved, O Nanak, by lovingly chanting the Lord's Name. ||8||

ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਚਿੰਤਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਪਾਂ ਦਿਆਂ ਰਸਾਂ ਨੇ ਫਰੇਫਤਾ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।
He does not remember the Lord in meditation; he is fascinated by the pleasures of corruption.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਬਿਸਾਰਿਐ; ਨਰਕ ਸੁਰਗ ਅਵਤਾਰ ॥੯॥

ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਭੁਲਾ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਦੋਜਕ ਅਤੇ ਬਹਿਸ਼ਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੈ, ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ!
O Nanak, forgetting the Naam, he is reincarnated into heaven and hell. ||9||

ਨੌਵੀ ਤਿੱਥਕ-ਗੰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ ਸਰੀਰ ਦੀਆਂ ਨੌ ਹੀ ਗੋਲਕਾਂ।
The ninth day of the lunar cycle: The nine holes of the body are defiled.
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ. ਨ ਜਪਹਿ; ਕਰਤ ਬਿਪਰੀਤਿ ॥

ਜੀਵ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਉਚਾਰਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੇ ਅਤੇ ਖੋਟੇ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪੈਦੇ ਹਨ।
People do not chant the Lord's Name; instead, they practice evil.
ਪਰ ਤਿ੍ਰਅ ਰਮਹਿ; ਬਕਹਿ ਸਾਧ ਨਿੰਦ ॥
par tria rameh; bakeh saadh nind |
ਉਹ ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਇਸਤਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੋਗਦੇ ਹਨ, ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਬਦਖੋਈ ਬਕਦੇ ਹਨ,
They commit adultery, slander the Saints,
ਕਰਨ. ਨ ਸੁਨਹੀ; ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਬਿੰਦ ॥
karan. na sunahee; har jas bind |
ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਭੋਰਾ ਭਰ ਭੀ ਕੀਰਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੁਣਦੇ।
and do not listen to even a tiny bit of the Lord's Praise.
ਹਿਰਹਿ ਪਰ ਦਰਬੁ; ਉਦਰ ਕੈ ਤਾਈ ॥
hireh par darab; udar kai taaee |
ਆਪਣੇ ਪੇਟ ਦੀ ਖਾਤਰ ਉਹ ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਦੋਲਤ ਨੂੰ ਖੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ,
They steal others' wealth for the sake of their own bellies,
ਅਗਨਿ. ਨ ਨਿਵਰੈ; ਤਿ੍ਰਸਨਾ. ਨ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥
agan. na nivarai; trisanaa. na bujhaaee |
ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਅੱਗ ਨਹੀਂ ਬੁਝਦੀ, ਨਾਂ ਹੀ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਖਾਹਿਸ਼ ਦੂਰ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
but the fire is not extinguished, and their thirst is not quenched.
ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵਾ ਬਿਨੁ; ਏਹ ਫਲ ਲਾਗੇ ॥
har sevaa bin; eeh fal laage |
ਰੱਬ ਦੀ ਟਹਿਲ ਸੇਵਾ ਦੇ ਬਾਝੋਂ ਬੰਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਐਸੇ ਇਵਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਮਿਲਦੇ ਹਨ।
Without serving the Lord, these are their rewards.
ਨਾਨਕ. ਪ੍ਰਭ ਬਿਸਰਤ; ਮਰਿ ਜਮਹਿ ਅਭਾਗੇ ॥੯॥

ਨਾਨਕ, ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨੂੰ ਭੁਲਾ ਕੇ, ਨਿਕਰਮਣ ਬੰਦੇ ਆਵਾਗਉਣ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੈਦੇ ਹਨ।
O Nanak, forgetting God, the unfortunate people are born, only to die. ||9||

ਮੈਂ ਦਸੀ ਪਾਸੀ ਹੀ ਲੱਭਦਾ ਫਿਰਿਆ ਹਾਂ। ਜਿਥੇ ਕਿਤੇ ਭੀ ਮੈਂ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਉਥੇ ਮੈਂ ਉਹ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਉਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
I have wandered, searching in the ten directions - wherever I look, there I see Him.
ਮਨੁ ਬਸਿ ਆਵੈ. ਨਾਨਕਾ; ਜੇ. ਪੂਰਨ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਹੋਇ ॥੧੦॥

ਨਾਨਕ ਬੰਦੇ ਦਾ ਮਨੂਆ ਤਾਂ ਕਾਬੂ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜੇਕਰ ਸਾਈਂ ਉਸ ਉਤੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਮੁਕੰਮਲ ਮਿਹਰ ਧਾਰੇ।
The mind comes to be controlled, O Nanak, if He grants His Perfect Grace. ||10||

ਦਸਮੀ. ਦਸ ਦੁਆਰ; ਬਸਿ ਕੀਨੇ ॥

ਦੱਸਵੀ ਤਿੱਥ-ਜੋ ਆਪਣੇ ਦਸਾਂ ਦਰਵਾਜ਼ਿਆਂ (ਪੰਜ ਗਿਆਨ ਤੇ ਪੰਜ ਕਰਮ ਇੰਦ੍ਰਿਆਂ) ਨੂੰ ਕਾਬੂ ਕਰ ਲੈਦਾ ਹੈ,
The tenth day of the lunar cycle: Overpower the ten sensory and motor organs;
ਮਨਿ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ; ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿ ਲੀਨੇ ॥
man santokh; naam jap leene |
ਉਹ ਦਿਲੋਂ ਸੰਤੁਸ਼ਟ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਉਚਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
your mind will be content, as you chant the Naam.
ਕਰਨੀ ਸੁਨੀਐ; ਜਸੁ ਗੋਪਾਲ ॥

ਆਪਣੇ ਕੰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਤੂੰ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ ਸਨਾ ਸ੍ਰਵਣ ਕਰ,
With your ears, hear the Praises of the Lord of the World;
ਨੈਨੀ ਪੇਖਤ; ਸਾਧ ਦਇਆਲ ॥
nainee pekhat; saadh deaal |
ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲੂ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੇਖ।
with your eyes, behold the kind, Holy Saints.
ਰਸਨਾ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਵੈ; ਬੇਅੰਤ ॥
rasanaa gun gaavai; beant |
ਆਪਣੀ ਜੀਭ ਨਾਲ ਅਨੰਤ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੀਆਂ ਵਡਿਆਈਆਂ ਗਾਇਨ ਕਰ।
With your tongue, sing the Glorious Praises of the Infinite Lord.
ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਚਿਤਵੈ; ਪੂਰਨ ਭਗਵੰਤ ॥
man meh chitavai; pooran bhagavant |
ਆਪਣੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਮੁਕੰਮਲ ਮਾਲਕ ਦਾ ਖਿਆਲ ਕਰ।
In your mind, remember the Perfect Lord God.
