Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji

ਮੈਂ ਐਹੋ ਜੇਹਿਆਂ ਬਹੁਤਿਆਂ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਾਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਕੀਤਾ ਸੀ,

I lived in many such homes, O Lord,

ਜਿਵੇਂ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੀ ਮਾਤਾ ਦੇ ਪੇਟ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ ਸਾਂ। ਠਹਿਰਾਓ।

before I came into the womb this time. ||1||Pause||

ਮੈਂ ਯੋਗੀ, ਸਤੀ, ਤਪੀਸਰ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਹੇਜ਼ਗਾਰ ਬਣਿਆ।

I was a Yogi, a celibate, a penitent, and a Brahmchaaree, with strict self-discipline.

ਕਦੇ ਮੈਂ ਤਖਤ ਦਾ ਸੁਆਮੀ, ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਬਣਿਆਂ ਤੇ ਕਦੇ ਮੰਗਤਾ।

Sometimes I was a king, sitting on the throne, and sometimes I was a beggar. ||2||

ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਊਪਾਸ਼ਕ ਮਰ ਜਾਣਗੇ ਪ੍ਰੰਤੂ ਸਾਧੂ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਉਂਦੇ ਰਹਿਣਗੇ,

The faithless cynics shall die, while the Saints shall all survive.

ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਜੀਭਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਨ ਕਰਨਗੇ।

They drink in the Lord's Ambrosial Essence with their tongues. ||3||

ਕਬੀਰ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮੇਰੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ ਮਿਹਰਬਾਨੀ ਕਰ।

Says Kabeer, O God, have mercy on me.

ਮੈਂ ਹੰਭ ਗਿਆ ਹਾਂ, ਹੁਣ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪੂਰਨਤਾ ਬਖਸ਼।

I am so tired; now, please bless me with Your perfection. ||4||13||

ਗਉੜੀ ਕਬੀਰ ਜੀ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾ ਕੇ ਪੰਜਵੀਂ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹੀ।

Gauree, Kabeer Jee, With Writings Of The Fifth Mehl:

ਕਬੀਰ ਐਹੋ ਜਿਹੇ ਅਸਚਰਜ ਵੇਖੇ ਹਨ।

Kabeer has seen such wonders!

ਦਹੀਂ ਦੇ ਭੁਲੇਖੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਦਮੀ ਪਾਣੀ ਨੂੰ ਰਿੜਕ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ਠਹਿਰਾਓ।

Mistaking it for cream, the people are churning water. ||1||Pause||

ਖੋਤਾ ਕੱਚੀਆਂ ਕਚਾਰ ਕਰੂੰਬਲਾਂ ਚਰਦਾ ਹੈ,

The donkey grazes upon the green grass;

ਅਤੇ ਹਰ ਰੋਜ਼ ਊਠ ਕੇ ਹੱਸਦਾ, ਹੀਗਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਓੜਕ ਮਰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

arising each day, he laughs and brays, and then dies. ||1||

ਮਤਵਾਲਾ ਝੋਟਾ ਅਮੋੜ ਭੱਜਿਆ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

The bull is intoxicated, and runs around wildly.

ਉਹ ਨੱਚਦਾ ਟੱਪਦਾ, ਖਾਂਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਆਖਰ ਨੂੰ ਨਰਕ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੈ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

He romps and eats and then falls into hell. ||2||

ਕਬੀਰ ਜੀ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨਇਕ ਅਤਭੁਤ ਖੇਲ ਜਾਹਰ ਹੋ ਆਈ ਹੈ,

Says Kabeer, a strange sport has become manifest:

ਭੇਡ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਆਪਣੀ ਛੇਲੀ ਨੂੰ ਚੁੰਘਦੀ ਹੈ।

the sheep is sucking the milk of her lamb. ||3||

ਸਾਈਂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਉਚਾਰਨ ਕਰਨ ਨਾਲ ਮੇਰੀ ਬੁੱਧ ਰੌਸ਼ਨ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਹੈ।

Chanting the Lord's Name, my intellect is enlightened.

ਕਬੀਰ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸਮਝ ਦਰਸਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ।

Says Kabeer, the Guru has blessed me with this understanding. ||4||1||14||

ਗਉੜੀ ਕਬੀਰ ਜੀ। ਪੰਚਪਦੇ।

Gauree, Kabeer Jee, Panch-Padhay:

ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਮੱਛੀ ਦੀ ਮਾਨਿੰਦ ਹਾਂ, ਜੋ ਪਾਣੀ ਨੂੰ ਤਿਆਗ ਬਾਹਰਵਾਰ ਚਲੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ,

I am like a fish out of water,

ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਪਿਛਲੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਰੜੀ ਘਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਮਾਈ ਸੀ।

because in my previous life, I did not practice penance and intense meditation. ||1||

ਹੁਣ ਦੱਸ ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੇਰੀ ਦਸ਼ਾ ਕੀ ਹੋਏਗੀ?

Now tell me, Lord, what will my condition be?

ਲੋਕ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਜਦ ਮੈਂ ਬਨਾਰਸ ਛੱਡਿਆ ਮੇਰੀ ਅਕਲ ਮਾਰੀ ਗਈ ਸੀ। ਠਹਿਰਾਓ।

I left Benares - I had little common sense. ||1||Pause||

ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣਾ ਸਾਰਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਸ਼ਿਵਜੀ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਗੁਆ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।

I wasted my whole life in the city of Shiva;

ਮਰਨ ਵੇਲੇ ਮੈਂ ਮਗਹਰ ਨੂੰ ਉਠਾ ਕੇ ਆ ਗਿਆ ਹਾਂ।

at the time of my death, I moved to Magahar. ||2||

ਘਣੇਰੇ ਸਾਲ ਮੈਂ ਕਾਂਸ਼ੀ (ਬਨਾਰਸ) ਵਿੱਚ ਤਪੱਸਿਆ ਕੀਤੀ।

For many years, I practiced penance and intense meditation at Kaashi;

ਹੁਣ ਜਦ ਮਰਨ ਨੂੰ ਆ ਢੁਕਿਆ ਹਾਂ, ਮੈਂ ਮਗਹਰ ਆ ਕੇ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।

now that my time to die has come, I have come to dwell at Magahar! ||3||

ਬਨਾਰਸ ਅਤੇ ਮਗਹਰ ਮੈਂ ਇਕਸਾਰ ਖਿਆਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ।

Kaashi and Magahar - I consider them the same.

ਅਲਪ ਅਨੁਰਾਗ ਵਾਲਾ ਬੰਦਾ ਕਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਤਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ?

With inadequate devotion, how can anyone swim across? ||4||

ਕਬੀਰ ਜੀ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ, ਮੇਰਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਗਣੇਸ਼, ਸ਼ਿਵਜੀ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਹੀ ਜਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ,

Says Kabeer, the Guru and Ganaysha and Shiva all know

ਕਿ ਕਬੀਰ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੇ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਉਚਾਰਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਮਰ ਗਿਆ।

that Kabeer died chanting the Lord's Name. ||5||15||

ਗਉੜੀ ਕਬੀਰ ਜੀ।

Gauree, Kabeer Jee:

ਜਿਸ ਦੇਹਿ ਦੇ ਅੰਗਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਨਣ ਦਾ ਅਰਕ ਮਲਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,

You may anoint your limbs with sandalwood oil,

ਉਹ ਅੰਤ ਲਕੜੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਸਾੜ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।

but in the end, that body will be burned with the firewood. ||1||

ਇਸ ਦੇਹਿ ਅਤੇ ਦੌਲਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਕਿਹੜੀ ਸ਼ੈ ਹੈ?

Why should anyone take pride in this body or wealth?

ਉਹ ਜਮੀਨ ਤੇ ਪਏ ਰਹਿ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਲੋਕ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦੇ। ਠਹਿਰਾਓ।

They shall end up lying on the ground; they shall not go along with you to the world beyond. ||1||Pause||

ਜੋ ਰਾਤਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਸੌਦੇਂ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਦਿਨ ਨੂੰ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ,

They sleep by night and work during the day,

ਅਤੇ ਇਕ ਮੁਹਤ ਭਰ ਭੀ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਉਚਾਰਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੇ,

but they do not chant the Lord's Name, even for an instant. ||2||

ਜੋ ਆਪਣੇ ਹੱਥ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਤੰਗ ਦੀ ਰੱਸੀ ਫੜੀ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਨਾਲ ਪਾਨ ਚੱਬਦੇ ਹਨ,

They hold the string of the kite in their hands, and chew betel leaves in their mouths,

ਉਹ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਵੇਲੇ ਤਸਕਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਮਾਨਿੰਦ ਖਿੱਚ ਕੇ ਨਰੜੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।

but at the time of death, they shall be tied up tight, like thieves. ||3||

ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਿਖਿਆ ਤਾਬੇ ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਅੰਦਰ ਭਿੱਜ ਜੇਕਰ ਤੂੰ ਹਰੀ ਦਾ ਜੱਸ ਗਾਇਨ ਕਰੇਂ,

Through the Guru's Teachings, and immersed in His Love, sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord.

ਅਤੇ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰੇਂ ਤਾਂ ਤੂੰ ਆਰਾਮ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲਵੇਗਾਂ।

Chant the Name of the Lord, Raam, Raam, and find peace. ||4||

ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਮਿਹਰ ਧਾਰ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਮ ਪੱਕਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,

In His Mercy, He implants the Naam within us;

ਉਹ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਮਾਲਕ ਦੀ ਮਹਿਕ ਅਤੇ ਖੁਸ਼ਬੂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਦਿਲ ਅੰਦਰ ਟਿਕਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

inhale deeply the sweet aroma and fragrance of the Lord, Har, Har. ||5||

ਕਬੀਰ ਜੀ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦਾ ਚਿੰਤਨ ਕਰ, ਹੇ ਮੁਨਾਖੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ!

Says Kabeer, remember Him, you blind fool!

ਸੱਚਾ ਹੈ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਅਤੇ ਕੂੜੇ ਹਨ ਸਮੂਹ ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ਵਿਹਾਰ।

The Lord is True; all worldly affairs are false. ||6||16||

ਗਉੜੀ ਕਬੀਰ ਜੀ। ਤਿਪਦੇ ਅਤੇ ਚੌਪਦੇ।

Gauree, Kabeer Jee, Thi-Padhay And Chau-Thukay:

ਮੌਤ ਦੀ ਵੱਲ ਜਾਣ ਦੀ ਥਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਹੁਣ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਵੱਲ ਵਾਗ ਮੋੜ ਲਈ ਹੈ।

I have turned away from death and turned to the Lord.

ਪੀੜ ਮਿਟ ਗਈ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਆਰਾਮ ਅੰਦਰ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹਾਂ।

Pain has been eliminated, and I dwell in peac and comfort.

ਮੇਰੇ ਦੁਸ਼ਮਨ ਬਦਲ ਕੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਜਣ ਬਣ ਗਏ ਹਨ।

My enemies have been transformed into friends.

ਪਤਿਤ ਪੁਰਸ਼ ਬਦਲ ਕੇ ਦਿਲੋਂ ਭਲੇ ਲੋਕ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਹਨ।

The faithless cynics have been transformed into good-hearted people. ||1||

ਮੈਂ ਹੁਣ, ਹਰ ਸ਼ੈ ਨੂੰ ਆਰਾਮ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹਾਂ।

Now, I feel that everything brings me peace.

ਜਦੋਂ ਦਾ ਮੈਂ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦੇ ਰੱਖਿਅਕ ਨੂੰ ਅਨੁਭਵ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ, ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ ਠੰਢ-ਚੈਨ ਵਰਤ ਗਈ ਹੈ। ਠਹਿਰਾਓ।

Peace and tranquility have come, since I realized the Lord of the Universe. ||1||Pause||
