So escape from corruption and immerse yourself in the Lord; take this advice, O crazy mind.
ਨਿਰਭੈ ਹੋਇ. ਨ ਹਰਿ ਭਜੇ; ਮਨ ਬਉਰਾ ਰੇ, ਗਹਿਓ ਨ. ਰਾਮ ਜਹਾਜੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

ਤੂੰ ਨਿਡੱਰ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੇ ਬੋਹਿਥ ਉੱਤੇ ਸਵਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਈ, ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਕਮਲੀ ਜਿੰਦੜੀਏ! ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।
You have not meditated fearlessly on the Lord, O crazy mind; you have not embarked upon the Lord's Boat. ||1||Pause||
ਮਰਕਟ ਮੁਸਟੀ ਅਨਾਜ ਕੀ. ਮਨ ਬਉਰਾ ਰੇ; ਲੀਨੀ ਹਾਥੁ ਪਸਾਰਿ ॥

ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਕਮਲੀ ਜਿੰਦੜੀਏ! ਆਪਣਾ ਹੱਥ ਅਗਾਂਹਾਂ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਬਾਦਰ ਦਾਣਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਮੁੱਠੀ ਭਰ ਲੈਦਾ ਹੈ।
The monkey stretches out its hand, O crazy mind, and takes a handful of corn;
ਛੂਟਨ ਕੋ ਸਹਸਾ ਪਰਿਆ. ਮਨ ਬਉਰਾ ਰੇ; ਨਾਚਿਓ ਘਰ ਘਰ ਬਾਰਿ ॥੨॥
chhoottan ko sahasaa pariaa. man bauraa re; naachio ghar ghar baar |2|
ਖਲਾਸੀ ਪਾਉਣ ਦੀ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਧਾਰਨ ਕਰ ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਕਮਲੀ ਜਿੰਦੜੀਏ! ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਹਰ ਮਕਾਨ ਦੇ ਬੂਹੇ ਮੂਹਰੇ ਨਚਣਾ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੈ।
now unable to escape, O crazy mind, it is made to dance door to door. ||2||
ਜਿਉ ਨਲਨੀ. ਸੂਅਟਾ ਗਹਿਓ, ਮਨ ਬਉਰਾ ਰੇ; ਮਾਯਾ ਇਹੁ ਬਿਉਹਾਰੁ ॥
jiau nalanee. sooattaa gahio, man bauraa re; maayaa ihu biauhaar |
ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਕੁੜਿੱਕੀ ਦੇ ਜ਼ਰੀਏ ਤੋਤਾ ਪਕੜਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਕਮਲੀ ਜਿੰਦੜੀਏ! ਏਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਹੀ ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ਕਾਰ-ਵਿਹਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਇਨਸਾਨ ਜਕੜਿਆਂ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
Like the parrot caught in the trap, O crazy mind, you trapped by the affairs of Maya.
ਜੈਸਾ ਰੰਗੁ ਕਸੁੰਭ ਕਾ, ਮਨ ਬਉਰਾ ਰੇ; ਤਿਉ ਪਸਰਿਓ ਪਾਸਾਰੁ ॥੩॥
jaisaa rang kasunbh kaa, man bauraa re; tiau pasario paasaar |3|
ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਉਡ ਪੁਡ ਜਾਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈ ਰੰਗਤ ਕੁਸੰਭੇ ਦੇ ਫੁੱਲ ਦੀ, ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਕਮਲੀ ਜਿੰਦੜੀਏ! ਉਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਗਤ ਦਾ ਖਿਲਾਰਾ।
Like the weak dye of the safflower, O crazy mind, so is the expanse of this world of form and substance. ||3||
ਨਾਵਨ ਕਉ ਤੀਰਥ ਘਨੇ, ਮਨ ਬਉਰਾ ਰੇ; ਪੂਜਨ ਕਉ ਬਹੁ ਦੇਵ ॥
naavan kau teerath ghane, man bauraa re; poojan kau bahu dev |
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਕਮਲੀ ਜਿੰਦੇ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਬਹੁਤੇ ਧਰਮ ਅਸਥਾਨ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਉਪਾਸ਼ਨਾ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਦੇਵਤੇ।
There are so many holy shrines in which to bathe, O crazy mind, and so many gods to worship.

ਕਬੀਰ ਜੀ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇਰਾ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਛੁਟਕਾਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਣਾ, ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਕਮਲੀ ਜਿੰਦੇ! ਰੱਬ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਹੀ ਤੇਰਾ ਖਲਾਸੀ ਹੋਏਗੀ।
Says Kabeer, you shall not be saved like this, O crazy mind; only by serving the Lord will you find release. ||4||1||6||57||

ਅਗਨਿ ਨ ਦਹੈ, ਪਵਨੁ ਨਹੀ ਮਗਨੈ; ਤਸਕਰੁ. ਨੇਰਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ॥
agan na dahai, pavan nahee maganai; tasakar. ner na aavai |
ਅੱਗ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਫੁਕਦੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਨਾਂ ਹੀ ਹਵਾ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਉਡਾ ਕੇ ਲੈ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ। ਚੋਰ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਗਦਾ।
Fire does not burn it, and the wind does not blow it away; thieves cannot get near it.
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਧਨੁ, ਕਰਿ ਸੰਚਉਨੀ; ਸੋ ਧਨੁ. ਕਤ ਹੀ ਨ ਜਾਵੈ ॥੧॥

ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਐਸੀ ਦੌਲਤ ਇਕੱਤ੍ਰ ਕਰ। ਉਹ ਦੌਲਤ ਕਿਧਰੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦੀ।
Accumulate the wealth of the Lord's Name; that wealth does not go anywhere. ||1||
ਹਮਰਾ ਧਨੁ. ਮਾਧਉ ਗੋਬਿੰਦੁ ਧਰਣੀਧਰੁ; ਇਹੈ ਸਾਰ ਧਨੁ ਕਹੀਐ ॥

ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਸੁਆਮੀ, ਆਲਮ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਅਤੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ, ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਮੇਰੀ ਦੌਲਤ ਹੈ। ਇਹੀ ਅਸਲੀ ਦੌਲਤ ਆਖੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
My wealth is God, the Lord of Wealth, the Lord of the Universe, the Support of the earth: this is called the most excellent wealth.
ਜੋ ਸੁਖੁ. ਪ੍ਰਭ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ; ਸੋ ਸੁਖੁ. ਰਾਜਿ ਨ ਲਹੀਐ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jo sukh. prabh gobind kee sevaa; so sukh. raaj na laheeai |1| rahaau |
ਜੋ ਠੰਢ ਚੈਨ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਮਾਲਕ ਦੀ ਘਾਲ ਅੰਦਰ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਠੰਢ ਚੈਨ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭਦੀ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।
The peace which is obtained by serving God, the Lord of the Universe - that peace cannot be found in kingdoms or power. ||1||Pause||
ਇਸੁ ਧਨ ਕਾਰਣਿ. ਸਿਵ ਸਨਕਾਦਿਕ; ਖੋਜਤ ਭਏ ਉਦਾਸੀ ॥
eis dhan kaaran. siv sanakaadik; khojat bhe udaasee |
ਸ਼ਿਵਜੀ ਅਤੇ ਸਨਕ ਆਦਿਕ ਇਸ ਦੌਲਤ ਦੀ ਖੋਜ ਭਾਲ ਖਾਤਰ ਜਗਤ-ਤਿਆਗੀ ਹੋ ਗਏ।
Shiva and Sanak, in their search for this wealth, became Udaasees, and renounced the world.
ਮਨਿ ਮੁਕੰਦੁ. ਜਿਹਬਾ ਨਾਰਾਇਨੁ; ਪਰੈ ਨ. ਜਮ ਕੀ ਫਾਸੀ ॥੨॥
man mukand. jihabaa naaraaein; parai na. jam kee faasee |2|
ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਦਿਲ ਅੰਦਰ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਦੇਣਹਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਜੀਭ ਉਤੇ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮੌਤ ਦੀ ਫਾਹੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਦਾ।
One whose mind is filled with the Lord of liberation, and whose tongue chants the Name of the Lord, shall not be caught by the noose of Death. ||2||
ਨਿਜ ਧਨੁ ਗਿਆਨੁ, ਭਗਤਿ ਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਨੀ; ਤਾਸੁ ਸੁਮਤਿ ਮਨੁ ਲਾਗਾ ॥
nij dhan giaan, bhagat gur deenee; taas sumat man laagaa |
ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੋਈ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਅਤੇ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਬੀਚਾਰ ਮੇਰੀ ਜ਼ਾਤੀ ਦੌਲਤ ਹੈ। ਉਸ ਸਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਸਿਖਿਆ ਨਾਲ ਮੇਰਾ ਚਿੱਤ ਜੁੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
My own wealth is the spiritual wisdom and devotion given by the Guru; my mind is held steady in perfect neutral balance.
ਜਲਤ ਅੰਭ, ਥੰਭਿ ਮਨੁ ਧਾਵਤ; ਭਰਮ ਬੰਧਨ ਭਉ ਭਾਗਾ ॥੩॥
jalat anbh, thanbh man dhaavat; bharam bandhan bhau bhaagaa |3|
ਸਾਈਂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸੜਦੀ ਹੋਈ ਰੂਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਣੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਭੱਜੇ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਮਨੂਏ ਲਈ ਥੰਮ। ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਵਹਿਮ ਦੇ ਡਰ ਅਤੇ ਜੂੜ ਉਡ ਪੁੱਡ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
It is like water for the burning soul, like an anchoring support for the wandering mind; the bondage of doubt and fear is dispelled. ||3||
ਕਹੈ ਕਬੀਰੁ. ਮਦਨ ਕੇ ਮਾਤੇ; ਹਿਰਦੈ ਦੇਖੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੀ ॥

ਕਬੀਰ ਜੀ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ, "ਓ ਤੂੰ ਕਾਮ ਦੇ ਮੱਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਬੰਦੇ! ਆਪਣੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੋਚ ਸਮਝ ਤੇ ਵੇਖ।"
Says Kabeer: O you who are intoxicated with sexual desire, reflect upon this in your heart, and see.
ਤੁਮ ਘਰਿ ਲਾਖ ਕੋਟਿ ਅਸ੍ਵ ਹਸਤੀ; ਹਮ ਘਰਿ. ਏਕੁ ਮੁਰਾਰੀ ॥੪॥੧॥੭॥੫੮॥

ਤੇਰੇ ਗ੍ਰਹਿ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੱਖਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਕ੍ਰੋੜਾਂ ਹੀ ਕੋਤਲ ਅਤੇ ਹਾਥੀ ਹਨ। ਮੇਰੇ ਘਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੁਰ ਰਾਖਸ਼ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਇਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹੀ ਹੈ।
Within your home there are hundreds of thousands, millions of horses and elephants; but within my home is the One Lord. ||4||1||7||58||

ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਲਾਲਚ ਕਰਕੇ ਬਾਂਦਰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹੱਥ ਦੀ ਛੱਲਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਮੁੱਠੀ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਛੱਡਦਾ,
Like the monkey with a handful of grain, who will not let go because of greed
ਜੋ ਜੋ ਕਰਮ ਕੀਏ. ਲਾਲਚ ਸਿਉ; ਤੇ ਫਿਰਿ. ਗਰਹਿ ਪਰਿਓ ॥੧॥
jo jo karam kee. laalach siau; te fir. gareh pario |1|
ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਕਰਕੇ ਫਸ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਹੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਅਮਲ ਜੋ ਹਿਰਸ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਬੰਦਾ ਕਮਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਖਰ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਗਰਦਨ ਦੁਆਲੇ ਦੀ ਫਾਹੀ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
- just so, all the deeds committed in greed ultimately become a noose around one's neck. ||1||
ਭਗਤਿ ਬਿਨੁ; ਬਿਰਥੇ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਇਓ ॥

ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਅਨੁਰਾਗੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਦੇ ਬਗੈਰ ਮਨੁੱਖੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਬੇਅਰਥ ਬੀਤ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
Without devotional worship, human life passes away in vain.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਭਗਵਾਨ ਭਜਨ ਬਿਨੁ; ਕਹੀ. ਨ ਸਚੁ ਰਹਿਓ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

ਸਚਿਆਰਾ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਅਤੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਬਗੈਰ ਹੋਰ ਕਿਧਰੇ ਸੱਚ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਖਦਾ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।
Without the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, without vibrating and meditating on the Lord God, one does not abide in Truth. ||1||Pause||
ਜਿਉ ਉਦਿਆਨ. ਕੁਸਮ ਪਰਫੁਲਿਤ; ਕਿਨਹਿ. ਨ ਘ੍ਰਾਉ ਲਇਓ ॥
jiau udiaan. kusam parafulit; kineh. na ghraau leo |
ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਬੀਅਬਾਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਫੁਲ ਖਿੜਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸੁੰਗਧੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਾਣਦਾ,
Like the flower which blossoms in the wilderness with no one to enjoy its fragrance,
ਤੈਸੇ ਭ੍ਰਮਤ ਅਨੇਕ ਜੋਨਿ ਮਹਿ; ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਕਾਲ ਹਇਓ ॥੨॥
taise bhramat anek jon meh; fir fir kaal heo |2|
ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਆਦਮੀ ਕਈ ਜੂਨੀਆਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਮੌਤ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਬਾਰੰਬਰ ਤਬਾਹ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ।
so do people wander in reincarnation; over and over again, they are destroyed by Death. ||2||
ਇਆ ਧਨ ਜੋਬਨ ਅਰੁ ਸੁਤ ਦਾਰਾ; ਪੇਖਨ ਕਉ ਜੁ ਦਇਓ ॥
eaa dhan joban ar sut daaraa; pekhan kau ju deo |
ਇਹ ਦੌਲਤ, ਜੁਆਨੀ, ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਅਤੇ ਪਤਨੀ, ਜੋ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੇ ਦਿਤੇ ਹਨ, ਕੇਵਲ ਇਕ ਬੀਤ ਜਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਜ਼ਾਰਾ ਹੈ।
This wealth, youth, children and spouse which the Lord has given you - this is all just a passing show.
ਤਿਨ ਹੀ ਮਾਹਿ ਅਟਕਿ. ਜੋ ਉਰਝੇ; ਇੰਦ੍ਰੀ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਿ ਲਇਓ ॥੩॥
tin hee maeh attak. jo urajhe; indree prer leo |3|
ਜੋ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਫਸ ਅਤੇ ਉਲਝ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਇੰਦਰੇ ਉਕਸਾ ਕੇ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਾ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
Those who are caught and entangled in these are carried away by sensual desire. ||3||
ਅਉਧ ਅਨਲ. ਤਨੁ ਤਿਨ ਕੋ ਮੰਦਰੁ; ਚਹੁ ਦਿਸ ਠਾਟੁ ਠਇਓ ॥

ਉਮਰ ਅੱਗ ਹੈ, ਦੇਹਿ ਫੂਸ ਦਾ ਘਰ ਹੈ। ਚੌਹੀ ਪਾਸੀਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਇਹ ਬਨਾਵਟ ਬਣੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ।
Age is the fire, and the body is the house of straw; on all four sides, this play is being played out.
ਕਹਿ ਕਬੀਰ. ਭੈ ਸਾਗਰ ਤਰਨ ਕਉ; ਮੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਓਟ ਲਇਓ ॥੪॥੧॥੮॥੫੯॥

ਕਬੀਰ ਜੀ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਡਰਾਉਣੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਹੋਣ ਲਈ ਮੈਂ ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਪਨਾਹ ਲਈ ਹੈ।
Says Kabeer, to cross over the terriffying world-ocean, I have taken to the Shelter of the True Guru. ||4||1||8||59||

The water of the sperm is cloudy, and the egg of the ovary is crimson.
ਇਸ ਮਾਟੀ ਕੀ ਪੁਤਰੀ ਜੋਰੀ ॥੧॥

ਇਸ ਮਿੱਟੀ ਤੋਂ ਪੁਤਲੀ ਬਣਾਈ ਗਈ ਹੈ।

ਮੈ ਨਾਹੀ; ਕਛੁ ਆਹਿ ਨ ਮੋਰਾ ॥
mai naahee; kachh aaeh na moraa |
ਮੈਂ ਕੁਝ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਅਤੇ ਕੋਈ ਸ਼ੈ ਮੇਰੀ ਨਹੀਂ।
I am nothing, and nothing is mine.
ਤਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਸਭੁ ਰਸੁ; ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਤੋਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
tan dhan sabh ras; gobind toraa |1| rahaau |
ਮੇਰੀ ਦੇਹਿ, ਦੌਲਤ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਨਿਆਮ੍ਹਤਾ ਤੇਰੀਆਂ ਹਨ ਹੇ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਰਖਿਅਕ! ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।
This body, wealth, and all delicacies are Yours, O Lord of the Universe. ||1||Pause||
ਇਸ ਮਾਟੀ ਮਹਿ; ਪਵਨੁ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥
eis maattee meh; pavan samaaeaa |
ਇਸ ਮਿਟੀ (ਦੇਹਿ) ਅੰਦਰ ਸੁਆਸ ਪਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।
Into this clay, the breath is infused.
