Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji

ਕੇਵਲ ਓਹੀ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਖੁਦ ਸਮਝਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

He alone understands, whom the Lord Himself inspires to understand.

ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਦਇਆ ਦੁਆਰਾ, ਇਨਸਾਨ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੀ ਘਾਲ ਘਾਲਦਾ ਹੈ।

By Guru's Grace, one serves Him. ||1||

ਗਿਆਨ ਦੇ ਹੀਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਪੂਰਨ ਸਮਝ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।

With the jewel of spiritual wisdom, total understanding is obtained.

ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਰਹਿਮਤ ਸਦਕਾ ਬੇਸਮਝੀ ਦੁਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ। ਆਦਮੀ ਰੈਣ ਦਿਹੁੰ ਖ਼ਬਰਦਾਰ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਸੱਚੇ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨੂੰ ਦੇਖ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।

By Guru's Grace, ignorance is dispelled; one then remains wakeful, night and day, and beholds the True Lord. ||1||Pause||

ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ਮਮਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਸੜ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।

Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, attachment and pride are burnt away.

ਪੂਰਨ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਆਦਮੀ ਨੂੰ ਸੱਚੀ ਸਮਝ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।

From the Perfect Guru, true understanding is obtained.

ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਬੰਦਾ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਅਨੁਭਵ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾਹੈ,

Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, one realizes the Lord's Presence within.

ਉਸ ਦਾ ਆਵਾਗਉਣ ਮਿੱਟ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਥਿਰ ਥੀ ਵੰਞਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਨਾਮ ਅੰਦਰ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

Then, one's coming and going cease, and one becomes stable, absorbed in the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||2||

ਜਹਾਨ ਆਉਣ ਤੇ ਜਾਣ ਦੇ ਅਧੀਨ ਹੈ।

The world is tied to birth and death.

ਮੂਰਖ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਪੁਰਸ਼ ਧਨ ਦੌਲਤ ਅਤੇ ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ਮਮਤਾ ਦੇ ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇਰੇ ਦੀ ਲਪੇਟ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੈ।

The unconscious, self-willed manmukh is enveloped in the darkness of Maya and emotional attachment.

ਉਹ ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਬਦਖੋਈ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਅਤਿਅੰਤ ਝੂਠ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

He slanders others, and practices utter falsehood.

ਉਹ ਗੰਦਗੀ ਦਾ ਕਿਰਮ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਗੰਦਗੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੀ ਗਲ ਸੜ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

He is a maggot in manure, and into manure he is absorbed. ||3||

ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਨੂੰ ਪੂਰਨ ਸਮਝ ਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

Joining the True Congregation, the Sat Sangat, total understanding is obtained.

ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਮਈ ਸੇਵਾ ਨੂੰ ਚਿੱਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਪੱਕੀ ਕਰ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, devotional love for the Lord is implanted.

ਜੋ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਨੂੰ ਕਬੂਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਆਰਾਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,

One who surrenders to the Lord's Will is peaceful forever.

ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਪੁਰਖ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ!

O Nanak, he is absorbed into the True Lord. ||4||10||49||

ਆਸਾ ਤੀਜੀ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਪੰਚਪਦੇ।

Aasaa, Third Mehl, Panch-Padhay:

ਜੋ ਰੱਬੀ ਕਲਾਮ ਨਾਲ ਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ।

One who dies in the Word of the Shabad, finds eternal bliss.

ਉਹ ਰੱਬ ਰੂਪ ਵੱਡੇ ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

He is united with the True Guru, the Guru, the Lord God.

ਉਹ ਮੁੜ ਮਰਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਅਤੇ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਤੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ।

He does not die any more, and he does not come or go.

ਪੂਰਨ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਉਹ ਸੱਚੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨਾਲ ਅਭੇਦ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

Through the Perfect Guru, he merges with the True Lord. ||1||

ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਮੁੱਢ ਦੀ ਲਿਖਤਾਕਾਰ ਅੰਦਰ ਨਾਮ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ,

One who has the Naam, the Name of the Lord, written in his pre-ordained destiny,

ਉਹ ਰੈਣ ਦਿਹੁੰ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਪੂਰਨ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੀ ਉਤਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟ (ਉੱਚੀ) ਸੇਵਾ ਦੀ ਦਾਤ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।

night and day, meditates forever on the Naam; he obtains the wondrous blessing of devotional love from the Perfect Guru. ||1||Pause||

ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਅਭੇਦ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ,

Those, whom the Lord God has blended with Himself

ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਗੰਭੀਰ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਦੱਸੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ।

their sublime state cannot be described.

ਪੂਰਨ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਬਜੁਰਗੀ ਪ੍ਰਦਾਨ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ,

The Perfect True Guru has given the Glorious Greatness,

ਉਤਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟ ਦਰਜੇ ਦੀ ਅਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਹੁਣ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਅੰਦਰ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹਾਂ।

of the most exalted order, and I am absorbed into the Lord's Name. ||2||

ਜੋ ਕੁਛ ਸਾਈਂ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਖੁਦ-ਬ-ਖੁਦ ਹੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

Whatever the Lord does, He does all by Himself.

ਇਕ ਮੁਹਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਹ ਬਣਾ ਅਤੇ ਢਾਹ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

In an instant, He establishes, and disestablishes.

ਨਿਰੇ ਪੁਰੇ ਕਹਿਣ ਤੇ ਆਖਣ ਅਤੇ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਬਾਰੇ ਕੂਕਣ ਅਤੇ ਪਰਚਾਰ ਕਰਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ,

By merely speaking, talking, shouting and preaching about the Lord,

ਬੰਦਾ ਕਬੂਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਦਾ, ਭਾਵੇਂ ਉਹ ਸੈਕੜੇ ਵਾਰੀ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਪਿਆ ਕਰੇ।

Even hundreds of times, the mortal is not approved. ||3||

ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਨੇਕੀ ਹੈ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਮਿਲਦੇ ਹਨ।

The Guru meets with those, who take virtue as their treasure;

ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਉਹ ਸੱਚੀ ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਸ੍ਰਵਣ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।

they listen to the True Word of the Guru's Bani, the Shabad.

ਜਿਥੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉੱਥੋ ਰੰਜ ਗ਼ਮ ਟੁਰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

Pain departs, from that place where the Shabad abides.

ਬ੍ਰਹਿਮ ਵੀਚਾਰ ਦੇ ਜਵਾਹਰ ਦੇ ਜ਼ਰੀਏ ਆਦਮੀ ਸੁਖੈਨ ਹੀ, ਸੱਚੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਅੰਦਰ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

By the jewel of spiritual wisdom, one is easily absorbed into the True Lord. ||4||

ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਦੌਲਤ ਨਾਮ ਜਿੰਨੀ ਵੱਡੀ ਨਹੀਂ।

No other wealth is as great as the Naam.

ਇਹ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਸੱਚਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਪਰਦਾਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

It is bestowed only by the True Lord.

ਪੂਰਨ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਟਿਕਦਾ ਹੈ।

Through the Perfect Word of the Shabad, it abides in the mind.

ਨਾਨਕ, ਨਾਮ ਨਾਲ ਰੰਗੀਜਣ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਇਨਸਾਨ ਆਰਾਮ ਪਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

O Nanak, imbued with the Naam, peace is obtained. ||5||11||50||

ਆਸਾ ਤੀਜੀ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ।

Aasaa, Third Mehl:

ਆਦਮੀ ਨਿਰਤਕਾਰੀ ਕਰੇ ਅਤੇ ਘਨੇਰੇ ਸੰਗੀਤਕ ਸਾਜ਼ ਪਿਆ ਵਜਾਵੇ।

One may dance and play numerous instruments;

ਪਰ ਇਹ ਮਨੂਆ ਅੰਨ੍ਹਾ ਤੇ ਬੋਲਾ ਹੈ। ਤਦ ਇਹ ਕਹਿਣਾ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਚਾਰਣਾ ਕੀਹਦੇ ਲਈ ਹੈ?

but this mind is blind and deaf, so for whose benefit is this speaking and preaching?

ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਲਾਲਚ ਦੀ ਅੱਗ ਅਤੇ ਸੰਦੇਹ ਦੀ ਹਵਾ ਹੈ।

Deep within is the fire of greed, and the dust-storm of doubt.

(ਗਿਆਨ ਦਾ) ਲੈਪਂ ਜਲਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਨਾਂ ਹੀ ਗਿਆਤ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

The lamp of knowledge is not burning, and understanding is not obtained. ||1||

ਗੁਰੂ-ਸਮਰਪਣ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਅੰਦਰ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ ਹੈ।

The Gurmukh has the light of devotional worship within his heart.

ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਦੀ ਸਿੰਆਣ ਕਰਕੇ ਉਹ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।

Understanding his own self, he meets God. ||1||Pause||

ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਪੁਰਸ਼ ਲਈ, ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਪਾਉਣੀ ਨ੍ਰਿਤਕਾਰੀ ਹੈ,

The Gurmukh's dance is to embrace love for the Lord;

ਅਤੇ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਦਾ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਮਾਰਨਾ ਸੁਰ ਤਾਲ ਮੇਲਣਾ ਹੈ।

to the beat of the drum, he sheds his ego from within.

ਮੈਡਾਂ ਸੱਚਾ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜਾਨਣਹਾਰ ਹੈ।

My God is True; He Himself is the Knower of all.

ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਤੂੰ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਹੀ ਸਿੰਆਣ।

Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, recognize the Creator Lord within yourself. ||2||

ਦਿਲੀ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਅਤੇ ਪਿਰਹੜੀ ਗੁਰੂ-ਸਮਰਪਨ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਮਈ ਸੇਵਾ ਹੈ।

The Gurmukh is filled with devotional love for the Beloved Lord.

ਉਹ ਸੁਭਾਵਕ ਹੀ ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਦਾ ਚਿੰਤਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

He intuitively reflects upon the Word of the Guru's Shabad.

ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਪੁਰਸ਼ਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਉਸ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਵੱਲ ਜਾਣ ਦਾ ਸੱਚਾ ਮਾਰਗ ਹੈ।

For the Gurmukh, loving devotional worship is the way to the True Lord.

ਦੰਭੀ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਅਤੇ ਨਾਚ ਗ਼ਮ, ਰੰਜ ਉਪਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।

But the dances and the worship of the hypocrites bring only pain. ||3||
