raakh saran jagadeesur piaare; mohi saradhaa poor, har gusaaee |
ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਪਨਾਹ ਹੇਠਾਂ ਰੱਖ, ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ, ਕੁਲ ਆਲਮ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ, ਅਤੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਿਦਕ ਪੁਰਾ ਕਰ, ਹੇ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ!
Keep me under Your Protection, O Beloved Master of the Universe; fulfill my faith, O Lord of the World.

ਗੋਲੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾ ਚਿੱਤ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਨਾਲ ਪਰੀਪੂਰਨ ਹੋ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਦ ਉਹ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਦੀਦਾਰ ਇੱਕ ਮੁਹਤ ਭਰ ਲਈ ਭੀ ਵੇਖ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
Servant Nanak's mind is filled with bliss, when he beholds the Blessed Vision of the Lord's Darshan, even for an instant. ||2||39||13||15||67||

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ik oankaar satigur prasaad |
ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਕੇਵਲ ਇਕ ਹੈ! ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਦਇਆ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਉਹ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:
ਜਿਨਿ ਲਾਈ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ; ਸੋਈ ਫਿਰਿ ਖਾਇਆ ॥
jin laaee preet; soee fir khaaeaa |
ਜੋ ਮਾਇਆ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਆਖਰਕਾਰ ਖਾ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
One who loves her, is ultimately devoured.
ਜਿਨਿ ਸੁਖਿ ਬੈਠਾਲੀ; ਤਿਸੁ ਭਉ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਦਿਖਾਇਆ ॥
jin sukh baitthaalee; tis bhau bahut dikhaaeaa |
ਜੋ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਰਾਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਬਹਾਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਘਣਾ ਡਰਾਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
One who seats her in comfort, is totally terrified by her.
ਭਾਈ ਮੀਤ ਕੁਟੰਬ; ਦੇਖਿ ਬਿਬਾਦੇ ॥
bhaaee meet kuttanb; dekh bibaade |
ਭਰਾ, ਮਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਤੇ ਸਾਕ-ਸੈਨ, ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਤੱਕ ਕੇ ਝਗੜਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
Siblings, friends and family, beholding her, argue.
ਹਮ ਆਈ ਵਸਗਤਿ; ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੇ ॥੧॥
ham aaee vasagat; gur parasaade |1|
ਪਰ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਦਇਆ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਉਹ ਮੇਰੇ ਕਾਬੂ ਵਿੱਚ ਆ ਗਈ ਹੈ।
But she has come under my control, by Guru's Grace. ||1||
ਐਸਾ ਦੇਖਿ; ਬਿਮੋਹਿਤ ਹੋਏ ॥
aisaa dekh; bimohit hoe |
ਉਸ ਦੀ ਐਹੋ ਜੈਹੀ ਤਾਕਤ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਮੋਹਤ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਹਨ,
Beholding her, all are bewitched:
ਸਾਧਿਕ ਸਿਧ ਸੁਰਦੇਵ ਮਨੁਖਾ; ਬਿਨੁ ਸਾਧੂ. ਸਭਿ ਧ੍ਰੋਹਨਿ ਧ੍ਰੋਹੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
saadhik sidh suradev manukhaa; bin saadhoo. sabh dhrohan dhrohe |1| rahaau |
ਅਭਿਆਸੀ ਕਰਾਮਾਤੀ ਬੰਦੇ, ਦੇਵਤੇ, ਆਕਾਸ਼ੀ ਜੀਵ ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਨੀ। ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਬਗੈਰ, ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਛਲ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਛਲੇ ਗਏ ਹਨ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।
the strivers, the Siddhas, the demi-gods, angels and mortals. All, except the Saadhus, are deceived by her deception. ||1||Pause||
ਇਕਿ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਉਦਾਸੀ; ਤਿਨੑ ਕਾਮਿ ਵਿਆਪੈ ॥
eik fireh udaasee; tina kaam viaapai |
ਕਈ ਬਿਰੱਤਕ ਬਣ ਰਮਤੇ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਹਨ: ਪ੍ਰੰਤੂ, ਭੋਗ ਬਿਲਾਸ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੁਖੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
Some wander around as renunciates, but they are engrossed in sexual desire.
ਇਕਿ ਸੰਚਹਿ ਗਿਰਹੀ; ਤਿਨੑ ਹੋਇ ਨ ਆਪੈ ॥
eik sancheh girahee; tina hoe na aapai |
ਕਈ ਘਰਬਾਰੀ ਹੋ ਮਾਇਆ ਨੂੰ ਇਕੱਤਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ; ਪ੍ਰੰਤੂ ਇਹ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਨਿੱਜ ਦੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਣਦੀ।
Some grow rich as householders, but she does not belong to them.
ਇਕਿ ਸਤੀ ਕਹਾਵਹਿ; ਤਿਨੑ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਕਲਪਾਵੈ ॥
eik satee kahaaveh; tina bahut kalapaavai |
ਕਈ, ਜੋ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਦਾਨੀ ਅਖਵਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਖਰਾ ਸਤਾਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
Some call themselves men of charity, and she torments them terribly.
ਹਮ. ਹਰਿ ਰਾਖੇ; ਲਗਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੨॥

ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੈਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਬਚਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।
The Lord has saved me, by attaching me to the Feet of the True Guru. ||2||
ਤਪੁ ਕਰਤੇ; ਤਪਸੀ ਭੂਲਾਏ ॥
tap karate; tapasee bhoolaae |
ਤਪੱਸਿਆ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੋਇਆਂ ਤੱਪੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਾ ਦਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
She leads astray the penitents who practice penance.
ਪੰਡਿਤ ਮੋਹੇ; ਲੋਭਿ ਸਬਾਏ ॥
panddit mohe; lobh sabaae |
ਸਮੂਹ ਵਿਦਵਾਨ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ ਲਾਲਚ ਨੇ ਮੋਹ ਲਏ ਹਨ।
The scholarly Pandits are all seduced by greed.
ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਮੋਹੇ; ਮੋਹਿਆ ਆਕਾਸੁ ॥
trai gun mohe; mohiaa aakaas |
ਲੱਟੂ ਹੋਏ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ, ਤਿੰਨਾਂ ਸੁਭਾਵਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਅਤੇ ਲੱਟੂ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ਅਸਮਾਨ।
The world of the three qualities is enticed, and the heavens are enticed.
ਹਮ. ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਰਾਖੇ; ਦੇ ਕਰਿ ਹਾਥੁ ॥੩॥

ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਹੱਥ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਬਚਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।
The True Guru has saved me, by giving me His Hand. ||3||
ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕੀ; ਹੋਇ ਵਰਤੀ ਦਾਸਿ ॥
giaanee kee; hoe varatee daas |
ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਬੇਤਾ ਅੱਗੇ ਉਹ ਨੌਕਰ ਹੋ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ।
She is the slave of those who are spiritually wise.
ਕਰ ਜੋੜੇ; ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰੇ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ॥
kar jorre; sevaa kare aradaas |
ਹੱਥ ਬੰਨ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਟਹਿਲ ਕਮਾਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ:
With her palms pressed together, she serves them and offers her prayer:
ਜੋ ਤੂੰ ਕਹਹਿ; ਸੁ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਵਾ ॥
jo toon kaheh; su kaar kamaavaa |
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਤੂੰ ਹੁਕਮ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਮੈਂ ਓਹੀ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਾਂਗੀ,
"Whatever you wish, that is what I shall do."
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਨੇੜਿ; ਨ ਆਵਾ ॥੪॥੧॥
jan naanak guramukh nerr; na aavaa |4|1|
ਅਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਗੁਰੂ-ਸਮਰਪਣ ਦੇ ਲਾਗੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਗਾਂਗੀ", ਹੇ ਗੋਲੇ ਨਾਨਕ।
O servant Nanak, she does not draw near to the Gurmukh. ||4||1||

ਆਸਾ ਪੰਜਵੀਂ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ।
Aasaa, Fifth Mehl:
ਸਸੂ ਤੇ; ਪਿਰਿ ਕੀਨੀ ਵਾਖਿ ॥
sasoo te; pir keenee vaakh |
ਮੇਰੀ ਸੱਸ (ਮਾਇਆ) ਨਾਲੋਂ, ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ (ਹਰੀ) ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਅਲੱਗ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।
I have been separated from my Beloved by Maya (my mother-in-law).
ਦੇਰ ਜਿਠਾਣੀ ਮੁਈ; ਦੂਖਿ ਸੰਤਾਪਿ ॥
der jitthaanee muee; dookh santaap |
ਮੇਰੀ ਦਰਾਣੀ (ਆਸਾ) ਅਤੇ ਜਿਠਾਣੀ (ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ) ਤਕਲੀਫ ਅਤੇ ਗ਼ਮ ਨਾਲ ਮਰ ਗਈਆਂ ਹਨ।
Hope and desire (my younger brother-in-law and sister-in-law) are dying of grief.
ਘਰ ਕੇ ਜਿਠੇਰੇ ਕੀ; ਚੂਕੀ ਕਾਣਿ ॥
ghar ke jitthere kee; chookee kaan |
ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਘਰ ਵਾਲੇ ਦੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਭਾਈ ਦੀ ਮੁਹਤਾਜੀ ਛੱਡ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ।
I am no longer swayed by the fear of Death (my elder brother-in-law).
ਪਿਰਿ ਰਖਿਆ ਕੀਨੀ; ਸੁਘੜ ਸੁਜਾਣਿ ॥੧॥
pir rakhiaa keenee; sugharr sujaan |1|
ਮੇਰੇ ਸਿਆਣੇ ਅਤੇ ਸਰਬੱਗ ਪਤੀ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਬਚਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।
I am protected by my All-knowing, Wise Husband Lord. ||1||
ਸੁਨਹੁ ਲੋਕਾ; ਮੈ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਰਸੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
sunahu lokaa; mai prem ras paaeaa |
ਸੁਣੋ ਹੇ ਪੁਰਸ਼ੋ! ਮੈਂ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਦਾ ਰਸ ਪਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।
Listen, O people: I have tasted the elixir of love.
ਦੁਰਜਨ ਮਾਰੇ ਵੈਰੀ ਸੰਘਾਰੇ; ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ. ਮੋ ਕਉ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦਿਵਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
durajan maare vairee sanghaare; satigur. mo kau har naam divaaeaa |1| rahaau |
ਮੈਂ ਖੋਟੇ ਪੁਰਸ਼ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਸੁੱਟਿਆ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਦੁਸ਼ਮਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਸ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ। ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਬਖਸ਼ਿਆ ਹੈ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।

ਪ੍ਰਥਮੇ; ਤਿਆਗੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ॥

ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਹੰਗਤਾ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਛੱਡ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।
First, I renounced my egotistical love of myself.
ਦੁਤੀਆ; ਤਿਆਗੀ ਲੋਗਾ ਰੀਤਿ ॥
duteea; tiaagee logaa reet |
ਦੂਜੇ ਮੈਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਰਸਮਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤਲਾਂਜਲੀ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ।
Second, I renounced the ways of the world.
ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਤਿਆਗਿ; ਦੁਰਜਨ ਮੀਤ ਸਮਾਨੇ ॥
trai gun tiaag; durajan meet samaane |
ਤਿੰਨਾਂ ਲੱਛਣਾ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਖੋਟੇ ਪੁਰਸ਼ ਤੇ ਮਿੱਤ੍ਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਕ ਬਰਾਬਰ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
Renouncing the three qualities, I look alike upon friend and enemy.
ਤੁਰੀਆ ਗੁਣੁ; ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧ ਪਛਾਨੇ ॥੨॥

ਸੰਤ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਚੋਥੀ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਦੀਆਂ ਉਤਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟਤਾਈਆਂ (ਖੁਬੀਆਂ) ਨੂੰ ਅਨੁਭਵ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।
And then, the fourth state of bliss was revealed to me by the Holy One. ||2||
ਸਹਜ ਗੁਫਾ ਮਹਿ; ਆਸਣੁ ਬਾਧਿਆ ॥
sehaj gufaa meh; aasan baadhiaa |
ਬੈਕੁੰਠੀ ਪਰਮ ਅਨੰਦ ਦੀ ਕੰਦਰਾ (ਦਸਮ ਦੁਆਰ) ਵਿੱਚ ਮੈਂ ਟਿਕਾਣਾ ਮੱਲਿਆ ਹੈ।
In the cave of celestial bliss, I have obtained a seat.
ਜੋਤਿ ਸਰੂਪ; ਅਨਾਹਦੁ ਵਾਜਿਆ ॥
jot saroop; anaahad vaajiaa |
ਰੌਸ਼ਨੀ ਦੇ ਰੂਪ, ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਬੈਕੁੰਠੀ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਲਈ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ।
The Lord of Light plays the unstruck melody of bliss.
ਮਹਾ ਅਨੰਦੁ; ਗੁਰਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥
mahaa anand; gurasabad veechaar |
ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਦਾ ਚਿੰਤਨ ਕਰਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪਰਮ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ।
I am in ecstasy, contemplating the Word of the Guru's Shabad.
ਪਿ੍ਰਅ ਸਿਉ ਰਾਤੀ; ਧਨ ਸੋਹਾਗਣਿ ਨਾਰਿ ॥੩॥
pria siau raatee; dhan sohaagan naar |3|
ਆਪਣੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਨਾਲ ਰੰਗੀਜੀ ਹੋਈ ਮੈਂ ਮੁਬਾਰਕ ਤੇ ਪਰਸੰਨ ਪਤਨੀ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਹਾਂ।
Imbued with my Beloved Husband Lord, I am the blessed, happy soul-bride. ||3||
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਬੋਲੇ; ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
jan naanak bole; braham beechaar |
ਗੋਲਾ ਨਾਨਕ, ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਉਚਾਰਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
Servant Nanak chants the wisdom of God;
ਜੋ ਸੁਣੇ ਕਮਾਵੈ; ਸੁ ਉਤਰੈ ਪਾਰਿ ॥
jo sune kamaavai; su utarai paar |
ਜੋ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਣਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਦੀ ਕਮਾਈ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਤਰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
one who listens and practices it, is carried across and saved.
ਜਨਮਿ ਨ ਮਰੈ; ਨ ਆਵੈ. ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
janam na marai; na aavai. na jaae |
ਉਹ ਜੰਮਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ, ਨਾਂ ਹੀ ਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਤੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ।
He is not born, and he does not die; he does not come or go.
ਹਰਿ ਸੇਤੀ; ਓਹੁ ਰਹੈ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੪॥੨॥
har setee; ohu rahai samaae |4|2|
ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ ਅਭੇਦ ਹੋਇਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
He remains blended with the Lord. ||4||2||

ਨਿਜ ਭਗਤੀ; ਸੀਲਵੰਤੀ ਨਾਰਿ ॥

ਪਤਨੀ ਅਦੁੱਤੀ ਸ਼ਰਧਾ-ਪ੍ਰੇਮ, ਸੀਤਲ ਸੁਭਾ,
The bride shows such special devotion, and has such an agreeable disposition.
ਰੂਪਿ ਅਨੂਪ; ਪੂਰੀ ਆਚਾਰਿ ॥
roop anoop; pooree aachaar |
ਲਾਸਾਨੀ ਸੁੰਦਰਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਪੂਰਨ ਚੰਗੇ ਚਾਲ ਚਲਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈ।
Her beauty is incomparable, and her character is perfect.
ਜਿਤੁ ਗਿ੍ਰਹਿ ਵਸੈ; ਸੋ ਗਿ੍ਰਹੁ ਸੋਭਾਵੰਤਾ ॥
jit grihi vasai; so grihu sobhaavantaa |
ਜਿਸ ਘਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਹ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਘਰ ਉਪਮਾ ਯੋਗ ਹੈ।
The house in which she dwells is such a praiseworthy house.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਈ; ਕਿਨੈ ਵਿਰਲੈ ਜੰਤਾ ॥੧॥

ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਪੁਰਸ਼ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਐਸੀ ਪਤਨੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
But rare are those who, as Gurmukh, attain that state||1||
ਸੁਕਰਣੀ ਕਾਮਣਿ; ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿ. ਹਮ ਪਾਈ ॥
sukaranee kaaman; gur mil. ham paaee |
ਗੁਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੇਟ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਅਮਲਾਂ ਵਾਲੀ ਪਤਨੀ ਹਾਸਲ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ।
As the soul-bride of pure actions, I have met with the Guru.
