ਕੋਈ ਜਿ ਮੂਰਖੁ ਲੋਭੀਆ; ਮੂਲਿ. ਨ ਸੁਣੀ ਕਹਿਆ ॥੨॥
koee ji moorakh lobheea; mool. na sunee kahiaa |2|
ਕੋਈ ਜੋ ਬੇਵਕੂਫ ਤੇ ਲਾਲਚੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਖੇ ਹੋਏ ਨੂੰ ਕਦਾਚਿੱਤ ਸ੍ਰਵਣ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ।
But he is foolish and greedy, and he never listens to what he is told. ||2||
ਇਕਸੁ ਦੁਹੁ ਚਹੁ ਕਿਆ ਗਣੀ; ਸਭ ਇਕਤੁ ਸਾਦਿ ਮੁਠੀ ॥
eikas duhu chahu kiaa ganee; sabh ikat saad mutthee |
ਇਕ, ਦੋ ਜਾਂ ਚਾਰ ਦਾ ਕੀ ਗਿਣਨ ਹੋਇਆ ਸਾਰੇ ਜਹਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਐਨ ਉਨ੍ਹ੍ਰਾਂ ਹੀ ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ਸੁਆਦਾ ਨੇ ਠਗਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
Why bother to count one, two, three, four? The whole world is defrauded by the same enticements.
ਇਕੁ ਅਧੁ. ਨਾਇ ਰਸੀਅੜਾ; ਕਾ ਵਿਰਲੀ ਜਾਇ ਵੁਠੀ ॥੩॥

ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਹੀ ਰਬ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਆਸ਼ਕ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਕੋਈ ਟਾਂਵੀ ਜਗ੍ਹਾ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਫੁਲਤ ਰਹਿ ਗਈ ਹੈ।
Hardly anyone loves the Lord's Name; how rare is that place which is in bloom. ||3||
ਭਗਤ ਸਚੇ ਦਰਿ ਸੋਹਦੇ; ਅਨਦ ਕਰਹਿ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤਿ ॥

ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਜਾਂ-ਨਿਸਾਰ ਗੋਲੇ ਸੱਚੇ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਲਗਦੇ ਹਨ। ਦਿਨ ਰੈਣ ਉਹ ਮੌਜ ਮਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ।
The devotees look beautiful in the True Court; night and day, they are happy.
ਰੰਗਿ ਰਤੇ ਪਰਮੇਸਰੈ; ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ. ਤਿਨ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਤ ॥੪॥੧॥੧੬੯॥

ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਨਾਲ ਰੰਗੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ। ਗੋਲਾ ਨਾਨਕ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਉਤੋਂ ਘੋਲੀ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
They are imbued with the Love of the Transcendent Lord; servant Nanak is a sacrifice to them. ||4||1||169||

ਕਲੇਸ਼-ਹਰਤਾ ਹੈ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ, ਹੈ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਕਲੇਸ਼-ਹਰਤਾ ਹੈ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ।
The Destroyer of sorrow is Your Name, Lord; the Destroyer of sorrow is Your Name.
ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਆਰਾਧੀਐ; ਪੂਰਨ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਗਿਆਨੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

ਦਿਨ ਦੇ ਅਠੇ ਪਹਿਰ ਹੀ ਮੁਕੰਮਲ ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਦਿਤੀ ਹੋਈ ਬ੍ਰਹਿਮ ਗਿਆਤ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਾਰ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।
Twenty-four hours a day, dwell upon the wisdom of the Perfect True Guru. ||1||Pause||
ਜਿਤੁ ਘਟਿ ਵਸੈ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ; ਸੋਈ ਸੁਹਾਵਾ ਥਾਉ ॥
jit ghatt vasai paarabraham; soee suhaavaa thaau |
ਦਿਲ, ਜਿਸ ਅੰਦਰ ਸ਼੍ਰੋਮਣੀ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਰਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਜਗ੍ਹਾ ਹੈ।
That heart, in which the Supreme Lord God abides, is the most beautiful place.
ਜਮ ਕੰਕਰੁ. ਨੇੜਿ ਨ ਆਵਈ; ਰਸਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਉ ॥੧॥
jam kankar. nerr na aavee; rasanaa har gun gaau |1|
ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਦੂਤ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਲਾਗੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਗਦਾ ਜੋ ਆਪਣੀ ਜੀਭਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਹਿਮਾ ਆਲਾਪਦਾ ਹੈ।
The Messenger of Death does not even approach those who chant the Glorious Praises of the Lord with the tongue. ||1||
ਸੇਵਾ ਸੁਰਤਿ. ਨ ਜਾਣੀਆ; ਨਾ ਜਾਪੈ ਆਰਾਧਿ ॥
sevaa surat. na jaaneea; naa jaapai aaraadh |
ਮੈਂ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੀ ਚਾਕਰੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੁਚੇਤ ਰਹਿਣ ਦੀ ਕਦਰ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਨਾਂ ਹੀ ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਉਚੱਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਮਹਿਸੂਸ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ।
I have not understood the wisdom of serving Him, nor have I worshipped Him in meditation.
ਓਟ ਤੇਰੀ ਜਗਜੀਵਨਾ; ਮੇਰੇ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਅਗਮ ਅਗਾਧਿ ॥੨॥
ott teree jagajeevanaa; mere tthaakur agam agaadh |2|
ਹੈ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦੀ ਜਿੰਦ-ਜਾਨ! ਪਹੁੰਚ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਅਤੇ ਸੋਚ-ਸਮਝ ਤੋਂ ਉਚੇਰੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਾਹਿਬ, ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈਂ।
You are my Support, O Life of the World; O my Lord and Master, Inaccessible and Incomprehensible. ||2||
ਭਏ ਕਿ੍ਰਪਾਲ ਗੁਸਾਈਆ; ਨਠੇ ਸੋਗ ਸੰਤਾਪ ॥

ਜਦ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦਾ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਮਿਹਰਬਾਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅਫਸੋਸ ਤੇ ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਦੌੜ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
When the Lord of the Universe became merciful, sorrow and suffering departed.
ਤਤੀ ਵਾਉ. ਨ ਲਗਈ; ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਰਖੇ ਆਪਿ ॥੩॥

ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਖੁਦ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਬੱਚੇ ਨੂੰ ਗਰਮ ਹਵਾ ਤਕ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਛੂੰਹਦੀ।
The hot winds do not even touch those who are protected by the True Guru. ||3||
ਗੁਰੁ ਨਾਰਾਇਣੁ. ਦਯੁ ਗੁਰੁ; ਗੁਰੁ ਸਚਾ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰੁ ॥

ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਹਨ, ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਹੀ ਮਿਹਰਬਾਨ ਮਾਲਕ, ਅਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਹੀ ਸੱਚੇ ਕਰਤਾਰ।
The Guru is the All-pervading Lord, the Guru is the Merciful Master; the Guru is the True Creator Lord.
ਗੁਰਿ ਤੁਠੈ. ਸਭ ਕਿਛੁ ਪਾਇਆ; ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ. ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰ ॥੪॥੨॥੧੭੦॥

ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਰਮ-ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੋਣ ਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਸਾਰਾ ਕੁਝ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ। ਨੋਕਰ ਨਾਨਕ, ਗੁਰਾਂ ਉਤੋਂ ਸਦੀਵ ਹੀ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
When the Guru was totally satisfied, I obtained everything. Servant Nanak is forever a sacrifice to Him. ||4||2||170||

The Lord, the Lord, Raam, Raam, Raam:
ਜਪਿ; ਪੂਰਨ ਹੋਏ ਕਾਮਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

ਉਸ ਦੀ ਆਰਾਧਨ ਕਰਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਕਾਰਜ ਸੋਰ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।

ਰਾਮ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਜਪੇਦਿਆ; ਹੋਆ ਮੁਖੁ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰੁ ॥

ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਉਚਾਰਨ ਕਰਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਮੂੰਹ ਪਾਵਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
Chanting the Name of the Lord of the Universe, one's mouth is sanctified.
ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਸੁਣੀਐ ਜਿਸ ਤੇ; ਸੋਈ ਭਾਈ ਮਿਤ੍ਰੁ ॥੧॥
har jas suneeai jis te; soee bhaaee mitru |1|
ਜੋ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕੀਰਤੀ ਸ੍ਰਵਣ ਕਰਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਭਰਾ ਅਤੇ ਦੋਸਤ ਹੈ।
One who recites to me the Praises of the Lord is my friend and brother. ||1||
ਸਭਿ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਸਭਿ ਫਲਾ; ਸਰਬ ਗੁਣਾ ਜਿਸੁ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
sabh padaarath sabh falaa; sarab gunaa jis maeh |
ਜਿਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਦੌਲਤਾਂ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਦਾਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਨੇਕੀਆਂ ਹਨ,
All treasures, all rewards and all virtues are in the Lord of the Universe.
ਕਿਉ ਗੋਬਿੰਦੁ ਮਨਹੁ ਵਿਸਾਰੀਐ; ਜਿਸੁ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਦੁਖ ਜਾਹਿ ॥੨॥
kiau gobind manahu visaareeai; jis simarat dukh jaeh |2|
ਅਸੀਂ ਜਗ ਦੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਕਿਉਂ ਭੁਲਾਈਏ, ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਆਰਾਧਨ ਕਰਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਦੁਖੜੇ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
Why forget Him from your mind? Remembering Him in meditation, pain departs. ||2||
ਜਿਸੁ ਲੜਿ ਲਗਿਐ ਜੀਵੀਐ; ਭਵਜਲੁ ਪਈਐ ਪਾਰਿ ॥
jis larr lagiai jeeveeai; bhavajal peeai paar |
ਉਹ ਹਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਕਰ, ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਪੱਲੇ ਨਾਲ ਲਗਣ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਆਦਮੀ ਜੀਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਭਿਆਨਕ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
Grasping the hem of His robe, we live, and cross over the terrifying world-ocean.
ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਿ ਉਧਾਰੁ ਹੋਇ; ਮੁਖ ਊਜਲ ਦਰਬਾਰਿ ॥੩॥
mil saadhoo sang udhaar hoe; mukh aoojal darabaar |3|
ਸਤਿ ਸੰਗਤ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ, ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਬਚ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੀ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਚਿਹਰਾ ਰੋਸ਼ਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
Joining the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, one is saved, and one's face becomes radiant in the Court of the Lord. ||3||
ਜੀਵਨ ਰੂਪ ਗੋਪਾਲ ਜਸੁ; ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਕੀ ਰਾਸਿ ॥
jeevan roop gopaal jas; sant janaa kee raas |
ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦੇ ਪਾਲਣਹਾਰ ਦੀ ਕੀਰਤੀ ਜਿੰਦਗੀ ਦਾ ਸਾਰੰਸ਼, ਅਤੇ ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਪੁਰਸ਼ਾਂ ਦੀ ਪੂੰਜੀ ਹੈ।
The Praise of the Sustainer of the Universe is the essence of life, and the wealth of His Saints.
ਨਾਨਕ. ਉਬਰੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਿ; ਦਰਿ ਸਚੈ ਸਾਬਾਸਿ ॥੪॥੩॥੧੭੧॥

ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਰ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸੱਚੇ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਅੰਦਰ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਵਾਹ ਵਾਹ! ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ।
Nanak is saved, chanting the Naam, the Name of the Lord; in the True Court, he is cheered and applauded. ||4||3||171||

meetthe har gun, gaau jindoo; toon meetthe har gun gaau |
ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਿਠੜੀ ਉਸਤਤੀ ਗਾਇਨ ਕਰ, ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦੇ! ਤੂੰ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਿਠੜੀ ਉਸਤਤੀ ਗਾਇਨ ਕਰ।
Sing the Sweet Praises of the Lord, O my soul, sing the Sweet Praises of the Lord.
ਸਚੇ ਸੇਤੀ ਰਤਿਆ; ਮਿਲਿਆ ਨਿਥਾਵੇ ਥਾਉ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sache setee ratiaa; miliaa nithaave thaau |1| rahaau |
ਸਚੇ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨਾਲ ਰੰਗੀਜਣ ਦੁਆਰਾ, ਬੇਟਿਕਾਣੇ ਨੂੰ ਟਿਕਾਣਾ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।
Attuned to the True One, even the homeless find a home. ||1||Pause||
ਹੋਰਿ ਸਾਦ ਸਭਿ ਫਿਕਿਆ; ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਫਿਕਾ ਹੋਇ ॥
hor saad sabh fikiaa; tan man fikaa hoe |
ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਆਦ ਫਿਕਲੇ ਹਨ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਦੇਹਿ ਤੇ ਆਤਮਾ ਬੇ-ਸੁਆਦ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
All other tastes are bland and insipid; through them, the body and mind are rendered insipid as well.
ਵਿਣੁ ਪਰਮੇਸਰ ਜੋ ਕਰੇ; ਫਿਟੁ ਸੁ ਜੀਵਣੁ ਸੋਇ ॥੧॥

ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੇ ਬਗੈਰ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੁਛ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਲਾਹਨਤ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਜਿੰਦਗੀ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ੁਹਰਤ ਨੂੰ।
Without the Transcendent Lord, what can anyone do? Cursed is his life, and cursed his reputation. ||1||
ਅੰਚਲੁ ਗਹਿ ਕੈ ਸਾਧ ਕਾ; ਤਰਣਾ ਇਹੁ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥
anchal geh kai saadh kaa; taranaa ihu sansaar |
ਸੰਤ ਦਾ ਪੱਲਾ ਪਕੜ ਕੇ, ਇਸ ਜਗਤ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ।
Grasping the hem of the robe of the Holy Saint, we cross over the world-ocean.
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਆਰਾਧੀਐ; ਉਧਰੈ ਸਭ ਪਰਵਾਰੁ ॥੨॥

ਸ਼੍ਰੋਮਣੀ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰ ਅਤੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਆਲ-ਔਲਾਦ ਦਾ ਪਾਰ ਉਤਾਰਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ।
Worship and adore the Supreme Lord God, and all your family will be saved as well. ||2||
ਸਾਜਨੁ ਬੰਧੁ ਸੁਮਿਤ੍ਰੁ ਸੋ; ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਦੇਇ ॥
saajan bandh sumitru so; har naam hiradai dee |
ਉਹ ਹੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਯਾਰ, ਸਾਕ-ਸੈਨ ਅਤੇ ਚੰਗਾ ਦੋਸਤ ਹੈ, ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਤਹਕਰਣ ਅੰਦਰ ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਅਸਥਾਪਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
He is a companion, a relative, and a good friend of mine, who implants the Lord's Name within my heart.
ਅਉਗਣ ਸਭਿ ਮਿਟਾਇ ਕੈ; ਪਰਉਪਕਾਰੁ ਕਰੇਇ ॥੩॥

ਉਹ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਧੋ ਸੁਟਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਨਿਸ਼ਕਾਮ ਭਲਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
He washes off all my demerits, and is so generous to me. ||3||
ਮਾਲੁ ਖਜਾਨਾ ਥੇਹੁ ਘਰੁ; ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਚਰਣ ਨਿਧਾਨ ॥
maal khajaanaa thehu ghar; har ke charan nidhaan |
ਦੌਲਤ, ਕੋਸ਼, ਅਤੇ ਗ੍ਰਹਿ ਨਿਰੇ ਪੁਰੇ ਖੰਡਰਾਤ ਹਨ। ਕੇਵਲ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨ ਹੀ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਹਨ।
Wealth, treasures, and household are all just ruins; the Lord's Feet are the only treasure.
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਜਾਚਕੁ. ਦਰਿ ਤੇਰੈ ਪ੍ਰਭ; ਤੁਧਨੋ ਮੰਗੈ ਦਾਨੁ ॥੪॥੪॥੧੭੨॥

ਮੰਗਤ ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇਰੇ ਬੂਹੇ ਤੇ ਖੜਾ ਹੈ, ਹੈ ਸਾਹਿਬ! ਅਤੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਖ਼ੈਰ ਵਜੋ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹੈ।
Nanak is a beggar standing at Your Door, God; he begs for Your charity. ||4||4||172||
