Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji

ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਕੇਵਲ ਇਕ ਹੈ। ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਉਹ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:

ਰਾਗ ਗਊੜੀ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਨੌਵੀਂ।

Raag Gauree, Ninth Mehl:

ਹੈ ਸੰਤੋ! ਆਪਣੇ ਮਾਨਸਕ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਦਿਓ।

Holy Saadhus: forsake the pride of your mind.

ਮਿਥਨ ਹੁਲਾਸ, ਗੁੱਸੇ ਅਤੇ ਮੰਦੇ ਪੁਰਸ਼ਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੇਲ-ਮਿਲਾਪ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਤੂੰ ਦਿਨ ਰੈਣ ਦੂਰ ਭੱਜ ਜਾ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।

Sexual desire, anger and the company of evil people - run away from them, day and night. ||1||Pause||

ਜੋ ਕੋਈ ਦੋਨਾਂ ਹੀ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਤੇ ਗਮੀ ਅਤੇ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਤੇ ਬੇਇਜ਼ਤ ਨੂੰ ਇਕ ਸਮਾਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ,

One who knows that pain and pleasure are both the same, and honor and dishonor as well,

ਤੇ ਜੋ ਅਨੰਦ ਅਤੇ ਅਫਸੋਸ ਤੋਂ ਅਟੰਕ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਅੰਦਰ ਅਸਲ ਵਸਤੂ ਨੂੰ ਅਨੁਭਵ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

who remains detached from joy and sorrow, realizes the true essence in the world. ||1||

ਬੰਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਸੇ ਦੀ ਉਪਮਾ ਤੇ ਬਦਖੋਹੀ ਕਰਨੀ ਦੋਨੋ ਹੀ ਛੱਡਣੇ ਯੋਗ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਦੇ ਦਰਜੇ ਨੂੰ ਭਾਲਣਾ ਉਚਿੱਤ ਹੈ।

Renounce both praise and blame; seek instead the state of Nirvaanaa.

ਹੈ ਨਫ਼ਰ ਨਾਨਕ! ਇਹ ਖੇਡ ਔਖੀ ਹੈ। ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਹੀ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ।

O servant Nanak, this is such a difficult game; only a few Gurmukhs understand it! ||2||1||

ਗਊੜੀ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਨੌਵੀਂ।

Gauree, Ninth Mehl:

ਹੇ ਭਲਿਓ ਲੋਕੋ! ਵਿਆਪਕ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਦੁਨੀਆਂ ਸਾਜੀ ਹੈ।

Holy Saadhus: the Lord fashioned the creation.

ਇਕ ਮਰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਇਕ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਸਦੀਵ-ਸਥਿਰ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਇਕ ਅਚੰਭਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਹੜਾ ਜਾਣਿਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ। ਠਹਿਰਾਓ।

One person passes away, and another thinks that he will live forever - this is a wonder beyond understanding! ||1||Pause||

ਜੀਵ ਕਾਮ ਚੇਸ਼ਟਾ, ਗੁੱਸੇ ਅਤੇ ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ਮਮਤਾ ਦੇ ਅਖਤਿਆਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਭੁੱਲ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।

The mortal beings are held in the power of sexual desire, anger and emotional attachment; they have forgotten the Lord, the Immortal Form.

ਦੋਹਿ ਨੂੰ ਜੋ ਰਾਤ੍ਰੀ ਦੇ ਸੁਪਨੇ ਦੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਕੁੜੀ ਹੈ, ਆਦਮੀ ਸੱਚੀ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ।

The body is false, but they believe it to be true; it is like a dream in the night. ||1||

ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਭੀ ਦਿਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਬੱਦਲ ਦੀ ਛਾਂ ਦੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਾਰਾ ਅਲੋਪ ਹੋ ਜਾਏਗਾ।

Whatever is seen, shall all pass away, like the shadow of a cloud.

ਹੈ ਗੋਲੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੋ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਅਨਿਸਥਰ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਪਨਾਹ ਹੇਠ ਵਿਚਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

O servant Nanak, one who knows the world to be unreal, dwells in the Sanctuary of the Lord. ||2||2||

ਗਊੜੀ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਨੌਵੀਂ।

Gauree, Ninth Mehl:

ਜੀਵ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਹਿਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਟਿਕਾਉਂਦਾ।

The Praise of the Lord does not come to dwell in the minds of the mortal beings.

ਦਿਨ ਰੈਣ ਉਹ ਧਨ-ਦੌਲਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਖਚਤ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਦਸੋ, ਉਹ ਕਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਰਬ ਦੀ ਕੀਰਤੀ ਗਾਇਨ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।

Day and night, they remain engrossed in Maya. Tell me, how can they sing God's Glories? ||1||Pause||

ਇਸ ਤਰੀਕੇ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਬੱਚਿਆਂ, ਮਿੱਤ੍ਰਾਂ, ਦੁਨੀਆਂਦਾਰੀ ਅਤੇ ਅਪਣੱਤ ਨਾਲ ਬੰਨ੍ਹ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

In this way, they bind themselves to children, friends, Maya and possessiveness.

ਹਰਨ ਤੇ ਛਲਾਵੇ ਦੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਇਹ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਕੂੜਾ ਹੈ। ਫਿਰ ਭੀ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਤੱਕ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਇਸ ਪਿਛੇ ਭੱਜਦਾ ਹੈ।

Like the deer's delusion, this world is false; and yet, beholding it, they chase after it. ||1||

ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ਆਰਾਮ ਅਤੇ ਕਲਿਆਣ ਦਾ ਸਬੱਬ ਹੈ। ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੂਰਖ ਵਿਸਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

Our Lord and Master is the source of pleasures and liberation; and yet, the fool forgets Him.

ਹੇ ਨੌਕਰ ਨਾਨਕ! ਕ੍ਰੋੜਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

O servant Nanak, among millions, there is scarcely anyone who attains the Lord's meditation. ||2||3||

ਗਊੜੀ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਨੌਵੀਂ।

Gauree, Ninth Mehl:

ਹੇ ਸੰਤੋ! ਇਹ ਮਨੂਆਂ ਰੋਕਿਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ।

Holy Saadhus: this mind cannot be restrained.

ਚੁਲ ਬੁਲਾ ਲਾਲਚ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਲਈ ਇਹ ਅਸਥਿਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।

Fickle desires dwell with it, and so it cannot remain steady. ||1||Pause||

ਤੁੰਦ ਰੋਹ ਦਿਲ ਦੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੈ, ਜਿਹੜਾ ਸਾਰੀ ਹੋਸ਼ ਨੂੰ ਭੁਲਾ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

The heart is filled with anger and violence, which cause all sense to be forgotten.

ਇਸ ਗੁੱਸੇ ਨੇ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਬ੍ਰਹਿਮ ਬੋਧ ਦਾ ਹੀਰਾ ਖੋਹ ਖਿੰਜ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਦੀ ਭੀ ਪੇਸ਼ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦੀ।

The jewel of spiritual wisdom has been taken away from everyone; nothing can withstand it. ||1||

ਯੋਗੀ ਸਮੂਹ ਉਪਰਾਲੇ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਾਰ ਗਏ ਹਨ। ਗੁਣਵਾਣ ਰੱਬ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਿਫਤਾ ਗਾਇਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਹੰਭ ਹੁੱਟ ਗਏ ਹਨ।

The Yogis have tried everything and failed; the virtuous have grown weary of singing God's Glories.

ਜਦ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਮਇਆਵਾਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਹੇ ਗੋਲੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਤਦ ਹਰ ਤਰੀਕਾ ਕਾਮਯਾਬ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

O servant Nanak, when the Lord becomes merciful, then every effort is successful. ||2||4||

ਗਊੜੀ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਨੌਵੀਂ।

Gauree, Ninth Mehl:

ਹੇ ਸੰਤੋ! ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦਾ ਜੱਸ ਗਾਇਨ ਕਰੋ।

Holy Saadhus: sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord of the Universe.

ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਅਣਮੁੱਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਕਿਉਂ ਗਵਾਉਂਦੇ ਹੋ? ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।

You have obtained the priceless jewel of this human life; why are you uselessly wasting it? ||1||Pause||

ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਪੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ, ਅਤੇ ਮਸਕੀਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਨਬੰਧੀ ਹੈ। ਤੁਸੀਂ ਉਸਦੀ ਛਤ੍ਰਛਾਇਆ ਹੇਠ ਆਓ!

He is the Purifier of sinners, the Friend of the poor. Come, and enter the Lord's Sanctuary.

ਕਾਹਦੇ ਲਈ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਭੁਲਾਉਂਦੇ ਹੋ, ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਚਿੰਤਨ ਕਰਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਹਾਥੀ ਦਾ ਡਰ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ?

Remembering Him, the elephant's fear was removed; so why do you forget Him? ||1||

ਹੰਕਾਰ, ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ਮਮਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਦੁਨਿਆਵੀ ਪਦਾਰਥਾ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਦਿਉ ਤੇ ਤਦ, ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਨਾਲ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਜੋੜੋ।

Renounce your egotistical pride and your emotional attachment to Maya; focus your consciousness on the Lord's meditation.

ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ, ਇਹ ਹੈ ਕਲਿਆਣ ਦਾ ਰਸਤਾ। ਤੁਸੀਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਕੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਬਣ ਕੇ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋਵੋ।

Says Nanak, this is the path to liberation. Become Gurmukh, and attain it. ||2||5||

ਹੈ ਮਾਤਾ! ਕੋਈ ਆਪਣੀ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਏ ਮਨੂਏ ਨੂੰ ਰਾਹੇ ਪਾਵੋ!

O mother, if only someone would instruct my wayward mind.
