ਇਨਸਾਨ ਵੇਦ, ਪੁਰਾਣ ਅਤੇ ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਪੁਰਸ਼ਾਂ ਦੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਰਹੁ-ਰੀਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਣਦਾ ਹੈ, ਫਿਰ ਭੀ ਉਹ ਇਕ ਮੁਹਤ ਭਰ ਲਈ ਭੀ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕੀਰਤੀ ਗਾਇਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।

This mind listens to the Vedas, the Puraanas, and the ways of the Holy Saints, but it does not sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, for even an instant. ||1||Pause||

ਸ਼ਕਲ ਨਾਲ ਹੱਥ ਲਗਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਕੇ, ਉਹ ਜਿੰਦਗੀ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਬਿਤਾਈ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

Having obtained this human body, so very difficult to obtain, it is now being uselessly wasted.

ਧਨ-ਦੌਲਤ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਪਰਮ ਦੁਖਦਾਈ ਜੰਗਲ ਹੈ, ਤਾਂ ਭੀ ਬੰਦਾ ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

Emotional attachment to Maya is such a treacherous wilderness, and yet, people are in love with it. ||1||

ਅੰਦਰ ਤੇ ਬਾਹਰ ਮਾਲਕ, ਸਦੀਵ ਹੀ ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੈ। ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ ਮੁਹੱਬਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਗੰਢਦਾ।

Inwardly and outwardly, God is always with them, and yet, they do not enshrine Love for Him.

ਨਾਨਕ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੁਕਤ ਹੋਇਆ ਖਿਆਲ ਕਰ, ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਦਿਲ ਅੰਦਰ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਰਮਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।

O Nanak, know that those whose hearts are filled with the Lord are liberated. ||2||6||

ਗਊੜੀ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਨੌਵੀਂ।

Gauree, Ninth Mehl:

ਹੇ ਸੰਤੋ! ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਣਾਗਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਰਾਮ ਹੈ।

Holy Saadhus: rest and peace are in the Sanctuary of the Lord.

ਵੇਦਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਪੁਰਾਣਾ ਨੂੰ ਵਾਚਣ ਦਾ ਲਾਭ ਇਹ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਆਰਾਧਨ ਕਰੇ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।

This is the blessing of studying the Vedas and the Puraanas, that you may meditate on the Name of the Lord. ||1||Pause||

ਲਾਲਚ, ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ਲਗਨ, ਧਨ ਦੌਲਤ, ਅਪਣੱਤ, ਬਦੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਚਾਕਰੀ,

Greed, emotional attachment to Maya, possessiveness, the service of evil, pleasure and pain,

ਅਤੇ ਫਿਰ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਤੇ ਗਮੀ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਛੋਹੰਦੀ, ਉਹ ਪੁਰਸ਼ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ਵਾਨ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸਰੂਪ ਹੈ।

- those who are not touched by these, are the very embodiment of the Divine Lord. ||1||

ਬਹਿਸ਼ਤ ਤੇ ਦੋਜ਼ਕ, ਸੁਧਾਰਸ ਤੇ ਜ਼ਹਿਰ ਅਤੇ ਸੋਨਾ ਤੇ ਪੈਸਾ ਇਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਇਕ ਸਮਾਨ ਹਨ।

Heaven and hell, ambrosial nectar and poison, gold and copper - these are all alike to them.

ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਉਪਮਾ ਤੇ ਨਿੰਦਿਆ, ਲਾਲਚ ਤੇ ਸੰਤੁਸ਼ਟਤਾ, ਲਗਨ ਤੇ ਅਲੇਪਤਾ ਇਕੋ ਜੇਹੀਆਂ ਹਨ,

Praise and slander are all the same to them, as are greed and attachment. ||2||

ਅਤੇ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਪੀੜ ਤੇ ਪਰਸੰਨਤਾ ਬੰਨ੍ਹਦੀਆਂ ਨਹੀਂ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਬ੍ਰਹਿਮ ਬੇਤਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸਮਝ ਲੈ।

They are not bound by pleasure and pain - know that they are truly wise.

ਨਾਨਕ ਤੂੰ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੁਕਤ ਹੋਇਆ ਖਿਆਲ ਕਰ, ਜਿਹੜਾ ਜੀਵ ਇਸ ਪਰਕਾਰ ਦਾ ਹੈ।

O Nanak, recognize those mortal beings as liberated, who live this way of life. ||3||7||

ਗਊੜੀ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਨੌਵੀਂ।

Gauree, Ninth Mehl:

ਹੇ ਇਨਸਾਨਾਂ ਤੂੰ ਝੱਲਾ ਕਿਉਂ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈਂ?

O mind, why have you gone crazy?

ਤੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਕਿ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਤੇਰੀ ਆਰਬਲਾ ਘਟਦੀ ਜਾ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ। ਲਾਲਚ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਤੂੰ ਤੁੱਛ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈਂ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।

Don't you know that your life is decreasing, day and night? Your life is made worthless with greed. ||1||Pause||

ਉਹ ਦੇਹਿ ਅਤੇ ਸੁਹਣਾ ਘਰ ਤੇ ਘਰਵਾਲੀ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਿਜ ਦੇ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ,

That body, which you believe to be your own, and your beautiful home and spouse

ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਤੇਰਾ ਕੁਝ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ। ਵੇਖ ਅਤੇ ਗਹੁ ਨਾਲ ਸੋਚ ਸਮਝ।

- none of these is yours to keep. See this, reflect upon it and understand. ||1||

ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਕੀਮਤੀ ਮਨੁੱਖੀ-ਜੀਵਨ ਗੁਆ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ, ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦਾ ਮਾਰਗ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਿੰਞਾਣਿਆ।

You have wasted the precious jewel of this human life; you do not know the Way of the Lord of the Universe.

ਇਕ ਮੁਹਤ ਭਰ ਲਈ ਭੀ ਤੂੰ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ (ਅੰਦਰ) ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਾਇਆ। ਤੇਰੀ ਉਮਰ ਬੇਫਾਇਦਾ ਹੀ ਬੀਤ ਗਈ ਹੈ।

You have not been absorbed in the Lord's Feet, even for an instant. Your life has passed away in vain! ||2||

ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹੀ ਇਨਸਾਨ ਅਨੰਦ-ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਅਤੇ ਜੱਸ ਗਾਇਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

Says Nanak, that man is happy, who sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord's Name.

ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੇ ਇਨਸਾਨ ਮੋਹਨੀ ਨੇ ਲੱਟੂ ਬਣਾਏ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ। ਉਹ ਡਰ-ਰਹਿਤ ਮਰਤਬੇ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੇ।

All the rest of the world is enticed by Maya; they do not obtain the state of fearless dignity. ||3||8||

ਗਊੜੀ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਨੌਵੀਂ।

Gauree, Ninth Mehl:

ਹੇ ਬੇਖ਼ਬਰ ਬੰਦੇ! ਤੂੰ ਗੁਨਾਹ ਤੋਂ ਭੈ ਕਰ।

You people are unconscious; you should be afraid of sin.

ਜੋ ਗਰੀਬਾਂ ਦੇ ਉਤੇ ਮਇਆਵਾਨ ਅਤੇ ਸਮੂਹ ਡਰ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਤੂੰ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਣਾਗਤ ਸੰਭਾਲ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।

Seek the Sanctuary of the Lord, Merciful to the meek, Destroyer of all fear. ||1||Pause||

ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਤਹਕਰਨ ਅੰਦਰ ਤੂੰ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਟਿਕਾ, ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਉਪਮਾ ਵੇਦ ਤੇ ਪੁਰਾਣ ਗਾਇਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।

The Vedas and the Puraanas sing His Praises; enshrine His Name within your heart.

ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਹੈ ਨਾਮ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਜਹਾਨ ਅੰਦਰ। ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਉਚਾਰਨ ਅਤੇ ਆਰਾਧਨ ਕਰਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਾਪ ਧੋਸੁਟੇਗਾ।

Pure and sublime is the Name of the Lord in the world. Remembering it in meditation, all sinful mistakes shall be washed away. ||1||

ਹੇ ਬੰਦੇ! ਮਨੁੱਖੀ ਸਰੀਰ, ਮੁੜ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਹੱਥ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਣਾ। ਆਪਣੀ ਕਲਿਆਣ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਕੁਝ ਉਪਰਾਲਾ ਕਰ।

You shall not obtain this human body again; make the effort - try to achieve liberation!

ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਫੁਰਮਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੂੰ ਰਹਿਮਤ ਦੇ ਪੁੰਜ ਦੀ ਉਸਤਤੀ ਗਾਇਨ ਕਰ ਅਤੇ ਡਰਾਉਣੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾ।

Says Nanak, sing of the Lord of compassion, and cross over the terrifying world-ocean. ||2||9||251||

ਰਾਗ ਗਉੜੀ ਅਸ਼ਟਪਦੀਆਂ।ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਗਊੜੀ ਗੁਆਰੇਰੀ।

Raag Gauree, Ashtpadheeyaa, First Mehl: Gauree Gwaarayree:

ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਕੇਵਲ ਇਕ ਹੈ। ਸੱਚਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਅਤੇ ਰਚਣਹਾਰ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ। ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਦਇਆ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

One Universal Creator God. Truth Is The Name. Creative Being Personified. By Guru's Grace:

(ਨੌਂ) ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਅਤੇ (ਅਠਾਰਾਂ) ਕਰਾਮਾਤਾਂ ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਹਨ।

The nine treasures and the miraculous spiritual powers come by contemplating the Immaculate Naam, the Name of the Lord.

ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਹਿਰ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਸ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਇਨਸਾਨ ਪੂਰੇ ਪੁਰਸ਼ ਨੂੰ ਸਰਬ-ਥਾਈ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹੈ।

The Perfect Lord is All-pervading everywhere; He destroys the poison of Maya.

ਪਾਵਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਅੰਦਰ ਵਸਣ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਮੈਂ ਤਿੰਨਾਂ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਖਲਾਸੀ ਪਾ ਗਿਆ ਹਾਂ।

I am rid of the three-phased Maya, dwelling in the Pure Lord.
