Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji

ਸਲੋਕ।

Salok:

ਆਪਣੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਮਿਣਤੀ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਵੇਖ ਲੈ, ਕਿ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਜਰੂਰ ਨਿਸਚਿਤ ਹੀ ਟੁਰ ਜਾਣਾ ਹੈ।

See, that even by calculating and scheming in their minds, people must surely depart in the end.

ਨਾਸਵੰਤ ਚੀਜ਼ਾਂ ਦੀ ਖਾਹਿਸ਼, ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਮਿਟਦੀ ਹੈ। ਕੇਵਲ ਨਾਮ ਅੰਦਰ ਹੀ ਤੰਦਰੁਸਤੀ ਹੈ।

Hopes and desires for transitory things are erased for the Gurmukh; O Nanak, the Name alone brings true health. ||1||

ਪਉੜੀ।

Pauree:

ਗ- ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਰ ਸੁਆਸ ਨਾਲ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦਾ ਜੱਸ ਉਚਾਰਣ ਕਰ ਅਤੇ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰ।

GAGGA: Chant the Glorious Praises of the Lord of the Universe with each and every breath; meditate on Him forever.

ਸਰੀਰ ਦੇ ਉਤੇ ਕੀ ਭਰੋਸਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ? ਦੇਰੀ ਨਾਂ ਕਰ ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਿਤ੍ਰ,

How can you rely on the body? Do not delay, my friend;

ਮੌਤ ਦੇ ਰਾਹ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੋਈ ਰੁਕਾਵਟ ਨਹੀਂ ਨਾਂ ਬਚਪਣੇ, ਨਾਂ ਹੀ ਜੁਆਨੀ ਅਤੇ ਨਾਂ ਹੀ ਬੁਢੇਪੇ ਵਿੱਚ।

there is nothing to stand in Death's way - neither in childhood, nor in youth, nor in old age.

ਉਹ ਵੇਲਾ ਜਾਣਿਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਕਿ ਕਦੋਂ ਮੌਤ ਦੀ ਫਾਹੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ ਆ ਪੈਣੀ ਹੈ।

That time is not known, when the noose of Death shall come and fall on you.

ਵੇਖ ਲੈ ਕਿ ਵਿਚਾਰਵਾਨਾਂ, ਬਿਰਤੀ ਜੋੜਣ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਚਾਤਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਜਗ੍ਹਾ ਤੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿਣਾ।

See, that even spiritual scholars, those who meditate, and those who are clever shall not stay in this place.

ਮੂਰਖ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਚਿਮੜਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਹਰ ਕੋਈ ਪਿਛੇ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਟੁਰ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।

Only the fool clings to that, which everyone else has abandoned and left behind.

ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉਤੇ ਚੰਗੀ ਕਿਸਮਤ ਲਿਖੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਦਇਆ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਰੱਬ ਦਾ ਚਿੰਤਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

By Guru's Grace, one who has such good destiny written on his forehead remembers the Lord in meditation.

ਨਾਨਕ ਲਾਭਦਾਇ ਹੈ ਇਸ ਜਹਾਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਗਮਨ, ਜੋ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੰਤ ਵਜੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ।

O Nanak, blessed and fruitful is the coming of those who obtain the Beloved Lord as their Husband. ||19||

ਸਲੋਕ।

Salok:

ਮੈਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਸ਼ਾਸਤਰ ਅਤੇ ਵੇਦ ਪੜਤਾਲ ਲਏ ਹਨ। ਇਸ ਦੇ ਬਗੈਰ ਉਹ ਹੋਰ ਕੁਛ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਖਦੇ।

I have searched all the Shaastras and the Vedas, and they say nothing except this:

ਉਹ ਅਦੁੱਤੀ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਆਰੰਭ ਵਿੱਚ ਯੁਗਾਂ ਦੇ ਆਰੰਭ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੀ, ਹੁਣ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਦੀਵ ਹੀ ਅੱਗੇ ਨੂੰ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ, ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ!

"In the beginning, throughout the ages, now and forevermore, O Nanak, the One Lord alone exists." ||1||

ਪਉੜੀ।

Pauree:

ਘ-ਆਪਣੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਪਾ ਲੈ। ਕਿ ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਬਗੈਰ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ।

GHAGHA: Put this into your mind, that there is no one except the Lord.

ਨਾਂ ਕੋਈ ਸੀ ਤੇ ਨਾਂ ਹੀ ਅੱਗੇ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ, ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਕੇਵਲ ਓਹ ਹੀ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।

There never was, and there never shall be. He is pervading everywhere.

ਤਦ ਤੂੰ ਉਸ ਅੰਦਰ ਲੀਨ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ ਹੇ ਬੰਦੇ, ਜੇਕਰ ਤੂੰ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਣਾਗਤ ਸੰਭਾਲੇਗਾ।

You shall be absorbed into Him, O mind, if you come to His Sanctuary.

ਇਸ ਕਲਜੁਗ ਅੰਦਰ ਰੱਬ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਅਸਲੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਸਚਿਤ ਕਰਮ ਹੈ।

In this Dark Age of Kali Yuga, only the Naam, the Name of the Lord, shall be of any real use to you.

ਵਹਿਮ ਅੰਦਰ ਮਿਹਨਤ ਤੇ ਮੁਸ਼ੱਕਤ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਅਨੇਕਾ ਪਸਚਾਤਾਪ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।

So many work and slave continually, but they come to regret and repent in the end.

ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਬਾਝੋਂ ਉਹ ਕਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਇਸਥਿਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਪਾ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ?

Without devotional worship of the Lord, how can they find stability?

ਉਹ ਪਰਮ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ-ਮਈ ਜੌਹਰ ਨੂੰ ਹਿਲਾ ਕੇ ਪਾਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,

They alone taste the supreme essence, and drink in the Ambrosial Nectar,

ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਰੱਬ ਰੂਪ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।

O Nanak, unto whom the Lord, the Guru, gives it. ||20||

ਸਲੋਕ।

Salok:

ਸਮੂਹ ਦਿਨ ਅਤੇ ਸੁਆਸ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਲੇ ਗਿਣ ਕੇ ਆਦਮੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਾਏ ਹਨ। ਉਹ ਇਕ ਕੂੰਜਦ ਮਾਤ੍ਰ ਭੀ ਨ ਵਧਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਨਾਂ ਹੀ ਘਟਦੇ ਹਨ।

He has counted all the days and the breaths, and placed them in people's destiny; they do not increase or decrease one little bit.

ਜੋ ਵਹਿਮ ਤੇ ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ਮਮਤਾ ਅੰਦਰ ਜੀਉਣਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਮੂਰਖ ਹਨ।

Those who long to live in doubt and emotional attachment, O Nanak, are total fools. ||1||

ਪਉੜੀ।

Pauree:

ਮੌਤ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਕੜ ਲੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਨੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਉਪਾਸ਼ਕ ਬਣਾ ਦਿੰਤਾ ਹੈ।

NGANGA: Death seizes those whom God has made into faithless cynics.

ਜੋ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਰੂਹ ਨੂੰ ਅਨੁਭਵ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ ਉਹ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜੂਨੀਆਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਜੰਮਦਾ ਤੇ ਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

They are born and they die, enduring countless incarnations; they do not realize the Lord, the Supreme Soul.

ਕੇਵਲ ਉਹੀ ਬ੍ਰਹਿਮ ਗਿਆਨ ਅਤੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਨੂੰ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,

They alone find spiritual wisdom and meditation,

ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਖੁਦ ਮਿਹਰ ਧਾਰ ਕੇ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

whom the Lord blesses with His Mercy;

ਲੇਖਾ-ਪੱਤਾ ਕਰਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਬੰਦ-ਖਲਾਸ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ।

no one is emancipated by counting and calculating.

ਮਿੱਟੀ ਦਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਘੜਾ ਨਿਸਚਿਤ ਹੀ ਟੁੱਟ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ।

The vessel of clay shall surely break.

ਕੇਵਲ ਓਹੀ ਜੀਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਜੀਊਦੇ ਜੀ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

They alone live, who, while alive, meditate on the Lord.

ਉਹ ਉਜਾਗਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਗੁੱਝਾ ਛੁਪਿਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ, ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ!

They are respected, O Nanak, and do not remain hidden. ||21||

ਸਲੋਕ।

Salok:

ਆਪਣੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੇ ਕੰਵਲ ਰੂਪੀ ਪੈਰਾ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਮੂਧਾ ਦਿਲ ਕੰਵਲ ਖਿੜ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।

Focus your consciousness on His Lotus Feet, and the inverted lotus of your heart shall blossom forth.

ਸਾਧੂਆਂ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਦੁਆਰਾ, ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦਾ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਖੁਦ ਹੀ ਪਰਤੱਖ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

The Lord of the Universe Himself becomes manifest, O Nanak, through the Teachings of the Saints. ||1||

ਪਉੜੀ।

Pauree:

ਚ- ਜਦ ਮੈਂ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਕੰਵਲ ਰੂਪੀ ਪੈਰਾ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜਿਆਂ,

CHACHA: Blessed, blessed is that day,

ਮੁਬਾਰਕ, ਮੁਬਾਰਕ, ਹੈ ਉਹ ਦਿਹਾੜਾ ਅਤੇ ਵਡਭਾਗਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਢੋ-ਮੇਲ।

when I became attached to the Lord's Lotus Feet.

ਮੈਂ ਚੋਹੀਂ ਪਾਸੀਂ ਅਤੇ ਦਸੀਂ ਤਰਫੀਂ ਭਟਕ ਕੇ ਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ,

After wandering around in the four quarters and the ten directions,

ਜਦ ਰੱਬ ਨੇ ਰਹਿਮਤ ਕੀਤੀ, ਤਦ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਦੀਦਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋਇਆ।

God showed His Mercy to me, and then I obtained the Blessed Vision of His Darshan.

ਸਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਸਮੂਹ ਦਵੈਤ-ਭਾਵ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।

By pure lifestyle and meditation, all duality is removed.

ਸਤਿ ਸੰਗਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਮੇਰਾ ਚਿੱਤ ਸੁੱਧ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।

In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, the mind becomes immaculate.

ਉਹ iਫ਼ਕਰ-ਚਿੰਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਭੁੱਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਇਕ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਲੈਦਾ ਹੈ,

Anxieties are forgotten, and the One Lord alone is seen,

ਨਾਨਕ, ਜਿਸ ਦੀਆਂ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਬ੍ਰਹਿਮ ਬੀਚਾਰ ਦਾ ਸੁਰਮਾ ਪੈ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

O Nanak, by those whose eyes are anointed with the ointment of spiritual wisdom. ||22||

ਸਲੋਕ।

Salok:

ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੇ ਜੱਸ ਦੇ ਛੰਦ ਗਾਇਨ ਕਰਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਹਿੱਕ ਠੰਡੀਠਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਆਤਮਾ ਪਰਸੰਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।

The heart is cooled and soothed, and the mind is at peace, chanting and singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord of the Universe.

ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹੀ ਰਹਿਮਤ ਧਾਰ ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ! ਕਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇਰੇ ਗੋਲਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਗੋਲਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਵੇ।

Show such Mercy, O God, that Nanak may become the slave of Your slaves. ||1||

ਪਉੜੀ।

Pauree:

ਛ- ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਗੁਲਾਮ ਛੋਕਰਾ ਹਾਂ।

CHHACHHA: I am Your child-slave.

ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਫਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਫਰ ਦਾ ਜਲ-ਢੋਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹਾਂ।

I am the water-carrier of the slave of Your slaves.

ਛ- ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਸਾਧੂਆਂ ਦੇ ਪੈਰਾ ਦੀ ਧੂੜ ਹੋ ਜਾਵਾਂ,

Chhachha: I long to become the dust under the feet of Your Saints.
