Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji

ਸਲੋਕ।

Salok:

ਪੂਰਨ ਹੈ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਅਕਲ ਅਤੇ ਪਰਮ ਨਾਮਵਰ ਹਨ ਉਹ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਪੂਰਨ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਹੈ।

Perfect is the intellect, and most distinguished is the reputation, of those whose minds are filled with the Mantra of the Perfect Guru.

ਨਾਨਕ ਜੋ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨੂੰ ਅਨੁਭਵ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਨ।

Those who come to know their God, O Nanak, are very fortunate. ||1||

ਪਉੜੀ।

Pauree:

ਮ-ਜੋ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਭੇਦ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ,

MAMMA: Those who understand God's mystery are satisfied,

ਉਹ ਸਤਿ ਸੰਗਤ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਣ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

joining the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.

ਉਹ ਗ਼ਮੀ ਤੇ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਨੂੰ ਇਕ ਸਮਾਨ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ।

They look upon pleasure and pain as the same.

ਉਹ ਦੋਜ਼ਖ ਅਤੇ ਬਹਿਸ਼ਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੈਣੋ ਬਚ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

They are exempt from incarnation into heaven or hell.

ਉਹ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਫਿਰ ਭੀ ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਅਟੰਕ ਵਿਚਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

They live in the world, and yet they are detached from it.

ਉਹ ਸਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਹਰ ਦਿਲ ਅੰਦਰ ਪਰੀ ਪੁਰਨ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹੈ।

The Sublime Lord, the Primal Being, is totally pervading each and every heart.

ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੇ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਅੰਦਰ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਰਾਮ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ,

In His Love, they find peace.

ਨਾਨਕ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਨਹੀਂ ਚਿੰਮੜਦੇ।

O Nanak, Maya does not cling to them at all. ||42||

ਸਲੋਕ।

Salok:

ਹੈ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਿੱਤਰੋ! ਬੇਲੀਓ ਅਤੇ ਦੌਸਤੋ! ਕੰਨ ਕਰੋ, ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਬਾਝੋਂ ਛੁਟਕਾਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਣਾ।

Listen, my dear friends and companions: without the Lord, there is no salvation.

ਨਾਨਕ, ਜੋ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੈਰੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੀਆਂ ਬੇੜੀਆਂ ਕੱਟੀਆਂ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ।

O Nanak, one who falls at the Feet of the Guru, has his bonds cut away. ||1||

ਪਉੜੀ।

Pauree:

ਯ-ਇਨਸਾਨ ਘਨੇਰੇ ਕਿਸਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਉਪਰਾਲੇ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,

YAYYA: People try all sorts of things,

ਪ੍ਰੰਤੂ ਇਕ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਬਾਝੋਂ ਉਹ ਕਿੱਥੋ ਤੋੜੀ ਕਾਮਯਾਬ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ?

but without the One Name, how far can they succeed?

ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਯਤਨਾ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਬੰਦ-ਖਲਾਸ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ,

Those efforts, by which emancipation may be attained

ਉਹ ਉਪਰਾਲੇ ਸਤਿਸੰਗਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਕੀਤੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।

those efforts are made in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.

ਭਾਵੇਂ ਹਰ ਕੋਈ ਇਸ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਦਾ ਖਿਆਲ ਧਾਰਨ ਕਰੀ ਬੈਠਾ ਹੈ,

Everyone has this idea of salvation,

ਪ੍ਰੰਤੂ ਉਸ ਸਾਈਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਬਗੈਰ, ਮੁਕਤੀ ਪਾਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ।

but without meditation, there can be no salvation.

ਇਸ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਜਹਾਜ ਦੀ ਮਾਨਿੰਦ ਯੋਗ ਹੈ।

The All-powerful Lord is the boat to carry us across.

ਹੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨੇਕੀ ਵਿਹੁਣ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰ!

O Lord, please save these worthless beings!

ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਖਿਆਲ ਬੋਲਣ ਅਤੇ ਅਮਲ ਅੰਦਰ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਖੁਦ ਸਿਖ-ਮਤ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,

Those whom the Lord Himself instructs in thought, word and deed

ਨਾਨਕ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਬੁੱਧੀ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ਵਾਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।

- O Nanak, their intellect is enlightened. ||43||

ਸਲੋਕ।

Salok:

ਕਿਸੇ ਨਾਲ ਗੁੱਸੇ ਨਾਂ ਹੋ ਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪੇ ਨੂੰ ਸੋਚ ਸਮਝ।

Do not be angry with anyone else; look within your own self instead.

ਨਿਮ੍ਰਤਾ-ਸਹਿਤ ਹੋ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਅੰਦਰ ਵਿਚਰ ਹੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਅਤੇ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦਇਆ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਤੂੰ ਪਾਰ ਉਤਰ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ।

Be humble in this world, O Nanak, and by His Grace you shall be carried across. ||1||

ਪਉੜੀ।

Pauree:

ਰ- ਤੂੰ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਦੀ ਧੂੜ ਹੋ,

RARRA: Be the dust under the feet of all.

ਜਾ ਆਪਣੀ ਹੰਗਤਾ ਛੱਡ ਦੇ ਅਤੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਜ਼ਿੰਮੇ ਜੋ ਬਕਾਇਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ।

Give up your egotistical pride, and the balance of your account shall be written off.

ਹੇ ਵੀਰ! ਕੇਵਲ ਤਾਂ ਹੀ ਤੂੰ ਸਾਈਂ ਦੇ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਅੰਦਰ ਲੜਾਈ ਜਿੱਤੇਗਾ,

Then, you shall win the battle in the Court of the Lord, O Siblings of Destiny.

ਜੇਕਰ ਤੂੰ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਤਾਬੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨਾਲ ਆਪਣੀ ਬ੍ਰਿਤੀ ਜੋੜੇਗਾ।

As Gurmukh, lovingly attune yourself to the Lord's Name.

ਤੇਰੇ ਪਾਪ ਹੌਲੀ ਹੌਲੀ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਣਗੇ,

Your evil ways shall be slowly and steadily blotted out,

ਪੂਰਨ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਲਾਸਾਨੀ ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਦੁਆਰਾ।

By the Shabad, the Incomparable Word of the Perfect Guru.

ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਨਾਲ ਰੰਗੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਅਤੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਲ ਖੀਵੇ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ,

You shall be imbued with the Lord's Love, and intoxicated with the Nectar of the Naam.

ਨਾਨਕ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਰੱਬ-ਰੂਪ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।

O Nanak, the Lord, the Guru, has given this gift. ||44||

ਸਲੋਕ।

Salok:

ਲੋਭ, ਕੂੜ ਅਤੇ ਪਾਪ ਦੀਆਂ ਬੀਮਾਰੀਆਂ ਇਸ ਸਰੀਰ ਅੰਦਰ ਵਸਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ।

The afflictions of greed, falsehood and corruption abide in this body.

ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸੁਧਾਰਸ ਪਾਨ ਕਰਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਇਨਸਾਨ ਆਰਾਮ ਅੰਦਰ ਵਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਹੈ ਨਾਨਕ।

Drinking in the Ambrosial Nectar of the Lord's Name, Har, Har, O Nanak, the Gurmukh abides in peace. ||1||

ਪਉੜੀ।

Pauree:

ਲ-ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦਵਾਈ ਲਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ,

LALLA: One who takes the medicine of the Naam, the Name of the Lord,

ਇਕ ਮੁਹਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਪੀੜ ਅਤੇ ਸੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।

is cured of his pain and sorrow in an instant.

ਜੋ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਅੰਦਰ ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦਵਾਈ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,

One whose heart is filled with the medicine of the Naam,

ਸੁਪਨੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਭੀ ਜ਼ਹਿਮਤ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਤਾਉਂਦੀ।

is not infested with disease, even in his dreams.

ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦਵਾਈ ਹਰ ਇਕ ਦਿਲ ਅੰਦਰ ਹੈ, ਹੇ ਵੀਰ!

The medicine of the Lord's Name is in all hearts, O Siblings of Destiny.

ਪੂਰਨ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਬਗੈਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਤਿਆਰ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਤਰੀਕਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ।

Without the Perfect Guru, no one knows how to prepare it.

ਜਦ ਪੂਰਨ ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ਜੀ ਪ੍ਰਹੇਜ਼ ਦਰਸਾ ਕੇ ਦਵਾਈ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ,

When the Perfect Guru gives the instructions to prepare it,

ਨਾਨਕ, ਤਦ ਬੰਦਾ ਮੁੜ ਬੀਮਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਦਾ।

then, O Nanak, one does not suffer illness again. ||45||

ਸਲੋਕ।

Salok:

ਵਿਆਪਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਥਾਵਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੈ। ਕਿਸੇ ਜਗ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਭੀ ਉਹ ਘਟ ਨਹੀਂ।

The All-pervading Lord is in all places. There is no place where He does not exist.

ਅੰਦਰ ਤੇ ਬਾਹਰ ਉਹ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਪਾਸੋ ਕੀ ਲੁਕਾਇਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ, ਹੈ ਨਾਨਕ?

Inside and outside, He is with you. O Nanak, what can be hidden from Him? ||1||

ਪਉੜੀ।

Pauree:

ਕਿਸੇ ਨਾਲ ਭੀ ਦੁਸ਼ਮਨੀ ਨਾਂ ਕਰ।

WAWWA: Do not harbor hatred against anyone.

ਹਰਬ ਦਿਲ ਅੰਦਰ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਰਮਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।

In each and every heart, God is contained.

ਵਿਆਪਕ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਅਤੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ।

The All-pervading Lord is permeating and pervading the oceans and the land.

ਕੋਈ ਟਾਂਵਾਂ ਪੁਰਸ਼ ਹੀ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਦਇਆ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਜੱਸ ਗਾਇਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

How rare are those who, by Guru's Grace, sing of Him.

ਉਸ ਦੇ ਦੁਸ਼ਮਨੀ ਅਤੇ ਖਟਪਟੀ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਤੋਂ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ,

Hatred and alienation depart from those

ਜੋ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਰਾਹੀਂ, ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਜੱਸ ਸ੍ਰਵਣ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

who, as Gurmukh, listen to the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises.

ਉਹ ਸਮੂਹ ਜਾਤ ਅਤੇ ਜਾਤ ਦੇ ਚਿੰਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਆਜ਼ਾਦ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,

O Nanak, one who becomes Gurmukh chants the Name of the Lord,
