ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੋ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਤਾਬੇ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਉਚਾਰਣ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
Har, Har, and rises above all social classes and status symbols. ||46||

ਹਉ ਹਉ ਕਰਤ ਬਿਹਾਨੀਆ; ਸਾਕਤ ਮੁਗਧ ਅਜਾਨ ॥
hau hau karat bihaaneea; saakat mugadh ajaan |
ਮੂਰਖ ਅਤੇ ਅਣਜਾਣ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਉਪਾਸ਼ਕ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਆਪਣੀ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਗੁਜਾਰ ਲੈਦਾ ਹੈ।
Acting in egotism, selfishness and conceit, the foolish, ignorant, faithless cynic wastes his life.
ੜੜਕਿ ਮੁਏ. ਜਿਉ ਤਿ੍ਰਖਾਵੰਤ; ਨਾਨਕ. ਕਿਰਤਿ ਕਮਾਨ ॥੧॥

ਦੁਖ ਅੰਦਰ ਉਹ ਪਿਆਸੇ ਪੁਰਸ਼ ਦੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਫਲ ਪਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
He dies in agony, like one dying of thirst; O Nanak, this is because of the deeds he has done. ||1||

ੜਾੜਾ; ੜਾੜਿ ਮਿਟੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਸਾਧੂ ॥

ੜ- ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਕਰਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਬੰਦੇ ਦੇ ਝਗੜੇ ਖਤਮ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ,
RARRA: Conflict is eliminated in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy;
ਕਰਮ ਧਰਮ ਤਤੁ; ਨਾਮ ਅਰਾਧੂ ॥
karam dharam tat; naam araadhoo |
ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਆਰਾਧਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਮਜ਼ਹਬੀ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਤੇ ਈਮਾਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਨਚੋੜ ਹੈ।
meditate in adoration on the Naam, the Name of the Lord, the essence of karma and Dharma.
ਰੂੜੋ; ਜਿਹ ਬਸਿਓ ਰਿਦ ਮਾਹੀ ॥
roorro; jih basio rid maahee |
ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਦਿਲ ਅੰਦਰ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਰਖਦਾ ਹੈ,
When the Beautiful Lord abides within the heart,
ਉਆ ਕੀ; ੜਾੜਿ ਮਿਟਤ ਬਿਨਸਾਹੀ ॥
auaa kee; rraarr mittat binasaahee |
ਉਸ ਦਾ ਝਗੜਾ ਮਰ ਤੇ ਮੁਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

ੜਾੜਿ ਕਰਤ; ਸਾਕਤ ਗਾਵਾਰਾ ॥

ਅਨਜਾਣ ਕਾਫਰ ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਦਿਲ ਅੰਦਰ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀ ਮਤ ਦਾ ਪਾਪ ਵਸਦਾ ਹੈ,
The foolish, faithless cynic picks arguments
ਜੇਹ ਹੀਐ; ਅਹੰਬੁਧਿ ਬਿਕਾਰਾ ॥
jeh heeai; ahanbudh bikaaraa |
ਬਖੇੜੇ ਖੜੇ ਕਰ ਲੈਦਾ ਹੈ।
his heart is filled with corruption and egotistical intellect.
ੜਾੜਾ; ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ੜਾੜਿ ਮਿਟਾਈ ॥

ੜ-ਇਕ ਮੁਹਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਹੀ ਬਖੇੜਾ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
RARRA: For the Gurmukh, conflict is eliminated in an instant,
ਨਿਮਖ ਮਾਹਿ; ਨਾਨਕ ਸਮਝਾਈ ॥੪੭॥

ਸਾਧੂ ਕੀ ਮਨ ਓਟ ਗਹੁ; ਉਕਤਿ ਸਿਆਨਪ ਤਿਆਗੁ ॥
saadhoo kee man ott gahu; ukat siaanap tiaag |
ਹੈ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦੜੀਏ! ਸੰਤ ਦੀ ਪਨਾਹ ਪਕੜ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਦਲੀਲ-ਬਾਜੀ ਤੇ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਦੇ।
O mind, grasp the Support of the Holy Saint; give up your clever arguments.
ਗੁਰ ਦੀਖਿਆ ਜਿਹ ਮਨਿ ਬਸੈ; ਨਾਨਕ. ਮਸਤਕਿ ਭਾਗੁ ॥੧॥
gur deekhiaa jih man basai; naanak. masatak bhaag |1|
ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਦਿਲ ਅੰਦਰ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਵਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉਤੇ ਚੰਗੇ ਨਸੀਬ ਲਿਖੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ।
One who has the Guru's Teachings within his mind, O Nanak, has good destiny inscribed upon his forehead. ||1||

ਸ- ਮੈਂ ਹੁਣ ਹੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ! ਤੇਰੀ ਸ਼ਰਣਾਗਤ ਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ,
SASSA: I have now entered Your Sanctuary, Lord;
ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਸਿਮਿ੍ਰਤਿ; ਬੇਦ ਪੂਕਾਰੇ ॥

ਸ਼ਾਸਤ੍ਰਾਂ, ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਤੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਵੇਦਾਂ ਦੇ ਉਚਾਰਣ ਕਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਹਾਰ ਹੁਟ ਕੇ।
I am so tired of reciting the Shaastras, the Simritees and the Vedas.
ਸੋਧਤ ਸੋਧਤ; ਸੋਧਿ ਬੀਚਾਰਾ ॥
sodhat sodhat; sodh beechaaraa |
ਛਾਣ ਬੀਣ ਤੇ ਨਿਰਣਯ ਕਰਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ,
I searched and searched and searched, and now I have come to realize,
ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਭਜਨ; ਨਹੀ ਛੁਟਕਾਰਾ ॥
bin har bhajan; nahee chhuttakaaraa |
ਮੈਂ ਅਨੁਭਵ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਰੱਬ ਦੀ ਬੰਦਗੀ ਦੇ ਬਗੈਰ ਬੰਦੇ ਦੀ ਖਲਾਸੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ।
that without meditating on the Lord, there is no emancipation.
ਸਾਸਿ ਸਾਸਿ; ਹਮ ਭੂਲਨਹਾਰੇ ॥
saas saas; ham bhoolanahaare |
ਹਰ ਸੁਆਸ ਨਾਲ ਮੈਂ ਗਲਤੀਆਂ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
With each and every breath, I make mistakes.
ਤੁਮ ਸਮਰਥ; ਅਗਨਤ ਅਪਾਰੇ ॥
tum samarath; aganat apaare |
ਤੂੰ ਹੇ ਸਾਹਿਬ, ਸਰਬ-ਸ਼ਕਤੀਵਾਨ, ਗਿਣਤੀ-ਰਹਿਤ ਅਤੇ ਅਨੰਤ ਹੈ।
You are All-powerful, endless and infinite.
ਸਰਨਿ ਪਰੇ ਕੀ; ਰਾਖੁ ਦਇਆਲਾ ॥
saran pare kee; raakh deaalaa |
ਮਿਹਰਬਾਨ ਮਾਲਕ, ਮੇਰੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰ, ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਪਨਾਹ ਲਈ ਹੈ।
I seek Your Sanctuary - please save me, Merciful Lord!
ਨਾਨਕ; ਤੁਮਰੇ ਬਾਲ ਗੁਪਾਲਾ ॥੪੮॥
naanak; tumare baal gupaalaa |48|
ਹੈ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦੇ ਪਾਲਣਹਾਰ! ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇਰਾ ਬੱਚਾ ਹੈ।
Nanak is Your child, O Lord of the World. ||48||

ਖੁਦੀ ਮਿਟੀ. ਤਬ ਸੁਖ ਭਏ; ਮਨ ਤਨ ਭਏ ਅਰੋਗ ॥

ਜਦ ਸਵੈ-ਹੰਗਤਾ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਤਦ ਠੰਢ-ਚੈਨ ਉਤਪੰਨ ਹੋ ਆਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਆਤਮਾ ਤੇ ਦੇਹਿ ਤੰਦਰੁਸਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
When selfishness and conceit are erased, peace comes, and the mind and body are healed.
ਨਾਨਕ. ਦਿ੍ਰਸਟੀ ਆਇਆ; ਉਸਤਤਿ ਕਰਨੈ ਜੋਗੁ ॥੧॥
naanak. drisattee aaeaa; usatat karanai jog |1|
ਨਾਨਕ ਤਦ, ਉਹ ਜੋ ਉਪਮਾ ਕਰਨ ਦੇ ਲਾਇਕ ਹੈ, ਨਜ਼ਰ ਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
O Nanak, then He comes to be seen - the One who is worthy of praise. ||1||

ਖਖਾ; ਖਰਾ ਸਰਾਹਉ ਤਾਹੂ ॥
khakhaa; kharaa saraahau taahoo |
ਖ-ਉਸ ਦੀ ਘਨੇਰੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਕਰ,
KHAKHA: Praise and extol Him on High,
ਜੋ ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ; ਊਨੇ. ਸੁਭਰ ਭਰਾਹੂ ॥
jo khin meh; aoone. subhar bharaahoo |
ਜੋ ਇਕ ਮੁਹਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਖਾਲੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਲਬਾ-ਲਬ ਭਰ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
who fills the empty to over-flowing in an instant.
ਖਰਾ ਨਿਮਾਨਾ; ਹੋਤ ਪਰਾਨੀ ॥
kharaa nimaanaa; hot paraanee |
ਜਦ ਜੀਵ ਐਨ ਆਜਜ਼ ਹੋ ਜਾਵਦਾ ਹੈ,
When the mortal being becomes totally humble,
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਜਾਪੈ; ਪ੍ਰਭ ਨਿਰਬਾਨੀ ॥
anadin jaapai; prabh nirabaanee |
ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਰਾਤ ਦਿਨ ਬੇਦਾਗ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
then he meditates night and day on God, the Detached Lord of Nirvaanaa.
ਭਾਵੈ ਖਸਮ; ਤ ਉਆ ਸੁਖੁ ਦੇਤਾ ॥
bhaavai khasam; ta uaa sukh detaa |
ਜੇਕਰ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗੇ, ਤਦ ਉਹ ਆਰਾਮ ਬਖਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ।
If it pleases the Will of our Lord and Master, then He blesses us with peace.
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ; ਐਸੋ ਆਗਨਤਾ ॥
paarabraham; aiso aaganataa |
ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਅਨੰਤ ਹੈ ਪਰਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ।
Such is the Infinite, Supreme Lord God.
ਅਸੰਖ ਖਤੇ; ਖਿਨ ਬਖਸਨਹਾਰਾ ॥
asankh khate; khin bakhasanahaaraa |
ਅਣਗਿਣਤ ਪਾਪ ਉਹ ਇਕ ਮੁਹਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਮਾਫ ਕਰ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
He forgives countless sins in an instant.
ਨਾਨਕ; ਸਾਹਿਬ ਸਦਾ ਦਇਆਰਾ ॥੪੯॥

ਨਾਨਕ ਮਾਲਕ ਸਦੀਵ ਹੀ ਮਿਹਰਬਾਨ ਹੈ।
O Nanak, our Lord and Master is merciful forever. ||49||

ਸਤਿ ਕਹਉ. ਸੁਨਿ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ; ਸਰਨਿ ਪਰਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇ ॥

ਮੈਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਸੱਚ ਆਖਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਕੰਨ ਕਰ ਹੈ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦੇ! ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਦੀ ਪਨਾਹ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਾ ਡਿੱਗ।
I speak the Truth - listen, O my mind: take to the Sanctuary of the Sovereign Lord King.
ਉਕਤਿ ਸਿਆਨਪ ਸਗਲ ਤਿਆਗਿ; ਨਾਨਕ. ਲਏ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੧॥
aukat siaanap sagal tiaag; naanak. le samaae |1|
ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਯੁਕਤੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਚਤਰਾਈਆਂ ਛੱਡ ਦੇ, ਅਤੇ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਲੀਨ ਕਰ ਲਵੇਗਾ, ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ!
Give up all your clever tricks, O Nanak, and He shall absorb you into Himself. ||1||

ਸਸਾ; ਸਿਆਨਪ ਛਾਡੁ ਇਆਨਾ ॥

ਸ-ਆਪਣੀ ਹੁਸ਼ਿਆਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਤਿਆਗ ਦੇ, ਹੈ ਬੇਸਮਝ ਬੰਦੇ!
SASSA: Give up your clever tricks, you ignorant fool!
ਹਿਕਮਤਿ ਹੁਕਮਿ; ਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪਤੀਆਨਾ ॥
hikamat hukam; na prabh pateeaanaa |
ਚਲਾਕੀ ਅਤੇ ਅਮਰ ਨਾਲ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਪਰਸੰਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ।
God is not pleased with clever tricks and commands.
ਸਹਸ ਭਾਤਿ; ਕਰਹਿ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ॥
sehas bhaat; kareh chaturaaee |
ਭਾਵੇਂ ਤੂੰ ਹਜ਼ਾਰਾਂ ਕਿਸਮਾਂ ਦੀ ਹੁਸ਼ਿਆਰੀ ਪਿਆ ਕਰੇ,
You may practice a thousand forms of cleverness,
ਸੰਗਿ ਤੁਹਾਰੈ; ਏਕ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥
sang tuhaarai; ek na jaaee |
ਪਰ ਇਕ ਭੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣੀ (ਕੰਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਣੀ)।
but not even one will go along with you in the end.
ਸੋਊ ਸੋਊ ਜਪਿ; ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤੀ ॥
soaoo soaoo jap; din raatee |
ਉਸ, ਉਸ ਸਾਹਿਬ, ਦਾ ਤੂੰ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰ,
Meditate on that Lord, that Lord, day and night.
ਰੇ ਜੀਅ; ਚਲੈ ਤੁਹਾਰੈ ਸਾਥੀ ॥
re jeea; chalai tuhaarai saathee |
ਹੈ ਇਨਸਾਨ! ਉਹ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ।
O soul, He alone shall go along with you.
ਸਾਧ ਸੇਵਾ; ਲਾਵੈ ਜਿਹ ਆਪੈ ॥
saadh sevaa; laavai jih aapai |
ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਈਂ ਖੁਦ ਸੰਤ ਦੀ ਟਹਿਲ ਅੰਦਰ ਲਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
Those whom the Lord Himself commits to the service of the Holy,
ਨਾਨਕ. ਤਾ ਕਉ; ਦੂਖੁ ਨ ਬਿਆਪੈ ॥੫੦॥
naanak. taa kau; dookh na biaapai |50|
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੁਸੀਬਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਵਾਪਰਦੀ।
O Nanak, are not afflicted by suffering. ||50||

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਮੁਖ ਤੇ ਬੋਲਨਾ; ਮਨਿ ਵੂਠੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥

ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਮੂੰਹ ਨਾਲ ਉਚਾਰਨ ਕਰਨ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਟਿਕਾਉਣ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਆਰਾਮ ਉਤਪੰਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
Chanting the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, and keeping it in your mind, you shall find peace.
ਨਾਨਕ. ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ; ਥਾਨ ਥਨੰਤਰਿ ਸੋਇ ॥੧॥
naanak. sabh meh rav rahiaa; thaan thanantar soe |1|
ਨਾਨਕ, ਸਾਹਿਬ ਹਰਿ ਜਗ੍ਹਾ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ਥਾਵਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਥਾਵਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਥਾਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਉਹ ਰਮਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
O Nanak, the Lord is pervading everywhere; He is contained in all spaces and interspaces. ||1||

ਵੇਖੋ! ਮੁਬਾਰਕ ਮਾਲਕ, ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਦਿਲਾਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਪਰੀਪੂਰਨ ਹੈ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
Behold! The Lord God is totally pervading each and every heart.
ਹੋਵਤ ਆਏ ਸਦ ਸਦੀਵ; ਦੁਖ ਭੰਜਨ. ਗੁਰ ਗਿਆਨ ॥

ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਬਖਸ਼ੀ ਹੋਈ ਗਿਆਤ, ਨਿੱਤ ਤੇ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਹੀ ਕਸ਼ਟ ਨੂੰ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ।
Forever and ever, the Guru's wisdom has been the Destroyer of pain.
ਹਉ ਛੁਟਕੈ. ਹੋਇ ਅਨੰਦੁ ਤਿਹ; ਹਉ ਨਾਹੀ. ਤਹ ਆਪਿ ॥

ਆਪਣੀ ਹੰਗਤਾ ਮਾਰ ਲੈਣ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਬੰਦਾ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲੈਦਾ ਹੈ। ਜਿਥੇ ਸਵੈ-ਹੰਗਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਖੁਦ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਉਥੇ ਹੈ।
Quieting the ego, ecstasy is obtained. Where the ego does not exist, God Himself is there.
ਹਤੇ ਦੂਖ ਜਨਮਹ ਮਰਨ; ਸੰਤਸੰਗ ਪਰਤਾਪ ॥

ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਦੇ ਤਪਤੇਜ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਜੰਮਣ ਅਤੇ ਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਪੀੜ ਨਵਿਰਤ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਹੈ।
The pain of birth and death is removed, by the power of the Society of the Saints.
ਹਿਤ ਕਰਿ, ਨਾਮ ਦਿ੍ਰੜੈ ਦਇਆਲਾ ॥
hit kar, naam drirrai deaalaa |
ਜੋ ਮਿਹਰਬਾਨ ਮਾਲਕ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰ ਨਾਲ ਆਪਣੇ ਦਿਲਾਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਇਸਥਿਤ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ,
He becomes kind to those who lovingly enshrine the Name of the Merciful Lord within their hearts,
ਸੰਤਹ ਸੰਗਿ ਹੋਤ ਕਿਰਪਾਲਾ ॥
santah sang hot kirapaalaa |
ਸਤਿਸੰਗਤ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਉਹ ਮਾਇਆਵਾਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
