Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji

ਏਥੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ ਕੁਝ ਭੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਸੰਪੂਰਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ।

In this world, no one accomplishes anything by himself.

ਨਾਨਕ, ਸਾਰਾ ਕੁਝ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨੇ ਹੀ ਨੇਪਰੇ ਚਾੜਿ੍ਹਆਂ ਹੈ।

O Nanak, everything is done by God. ||51||

ਸਲੋਕ।

Salok:

ਹਿਸਾਬ ਕਿਤਾਬ ਕਰਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਦੀ ਕਦਾਚਿਤ ਖਲਾਸੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਹਰ ਮੁਹਤ ਉਹ ਗਲਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

Because of the balance due on his account, he can never be released; he makes mistakes each and every moment.

ਹੈ ਮਾਫੀ ਦੇਣਹਾਰ! ਤੂੰ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮਾਫ ਕਰ ਦੇ, ਅਤੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਕਰ ਦੇ।

O Forgiving Lord, please forgive me, and carry Nanak across. ||1||

ਪਉੜੀ।

Pauree:

ਇਨਸਾਨ ਨਿਮਕ-ਹਰਾਮੀ ਅਤੇ ਪਾਪੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਬੇਸਮਝ ਅਤੇ ਥੋੜ੍ਹੀ ਅਕਲ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।

The sinner is unfaithful to himself; he is ignorant, with shallow understanding.

ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਜਿੰਦੜੀ, ਦੇਹਿ ਅਤੇ ਆਰਾਮ ਬਖਸ਼ਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਜੋਹਰ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦਾ।

He does not know the essence of all, the One who gave him body, soul and peace.

ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ਲਾਭ ਦੀ ਖਾਤਰ ਉਹ ਦਸੀ ਪਾਸੀ ਲੱਭਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

For the sake of personal profit and Maya, he goes out, searching in the ten directions.

ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਦਾਤੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਇਕ ਮੁਹਤ ਭਰ ਲਈ ਭੀ, ਆਪਣੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਟਿਕਾਉਂਦਾ।

He does not enshrine the Generous Lord God, the Great Giver, in his mind, even for an instant.

ਲੋਭ, ਕੂੜ ਪਾਪ ਅਤੇ ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ਲਗਨ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਇਕੱਤਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

Greed, falsehood, corruption and emotional attachment - these are what he collects within his mind.

ਵੱਡੇ ਲੁੱਚੇ ਲੰਡਰ ਤਸਕਰਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਕਲੰਕ ਲਾਉਣ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ ਆਪਣਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਗੁਜਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

The worst perverts, thieves and slanderers - he passes his time with them.

ਜੇਕਰ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗੇ ਹੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ! ਤਦ ਤੂੰ ਅਸਲੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਜਾਲ੍ਹੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਬਖਸ਼ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

But if it pleases You, Lord, then You forgive the counterfeit along with the genuine.

ਨਾਨਕ ਜੇਕਰ ਪਰਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗੇ ਤਾਂ ਪੱਥਰ ਪਾਣੀ ਉਤੇ ਤਰ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੈ।

O Nanak, if it pleases the Supreme Lord God, then even a stone will float on water. ||52||

ਸਲੋਕ।

Salok:

ਖਾਂਦਾ, ਪੀਦਾ, ਖੇਲਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਹਸਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਮੈਂ ਘਨੇਰਿਆਂ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਭਟਕਿਆਂ ਹਾਂ।

Eating, drinking, playing and laughing, I have wandered through countless incarnations.

ਮੈਨੂੰ ਭਿਆਨਕ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਬਾਹਰ ਧੂ ਲੈ, ਮੇਰੇ ਮਾਲਕ! ਨਾਨਕ ਨੂੰ ਕੇਵਲ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ।

Please, God, lift me up and out of the terrifying world-ocean. Nanak seeks Your Support. ||1||

ਪਉੜੀ।

Pauree:

ਬਹੁਤੀਆਂ ਜੂਨੀਆਂ ਅਦੰਰ ਖੇਡਦਾ ਮਲ੍ਹਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਕਸ਼ਟ ਉਠਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਮੈਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹੋ ਆ ਉਤਰਿਆਂ ਹਾਂ।

Playing, playing, I have been reincarnated countless times, but this has only brought pain.

ਸੰਤ ਨੂੰ ਭੇਟਣ ਅਤੇ ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਅੰਦਰ ਲੀਨ ਹੋਣ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਤਕਲੀਫਾ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ।

Troubles are removed, when one meets with the Holy; immerse yourself in the Word of the True Guru.

ਸਹਿਨਸ਼ੀਲਤਾ ਧਾਰਨ ਕਰਨ ਅਤੇ ਸੱਚ ਨੂੰ ਇਕੱਤ੍ਰ ਕਰਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਆਦਮੀ ਨਾਮ ਰੂਪੀ ਆਬਿ-ਹਿਯਾਤ ਨੂੰ ਭੁੰਚਦਾ ਹੈ।

Adopting an attitude of tolerance, and gathering truth, partake of the Ambrosial Nectar of the Name.

ਜਦ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਭਾਰੀ ਰਹਿਮਤ ਕੀਤੀ, ਤਾਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਤੇ ਪਰਸੰਨਤਾ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਰਾਮ ਦਾ ਟਿਕਾਣਾ ਮਿਲ ਗਿਆ।

When my Lord and Master showed His Great Mercy, I found peace, happiness and bliss.

ਮੇਰਾ ਸੌਦਾ-ਸੂਤ ਸਹੀ-ਸਲਾਮਤ ਆ ਪੁੱਜਾ ਹੈ, ਮੈਂ ਘਣਾ ਨਫਾ ਖੱਟਿਆ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਨਾਲ ਗ੍ਰਹਿ ਮੁੜ ਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ।

My merchandise has arrived safely, and I have made a great profit; I have returned home with honor.

ਭਾਰੀ ਤਸੱਲੀ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਪਰਸਿੱਧ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆ ਕੇ ਮਿਲ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ।

The Guru has given me great consolation, and the Lord God has come to meet me.

ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਪਿਛੋ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਖੁਦ ਹੀ ਅੱਗੇ ਨੂੰ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ।

He Himself has acted, and He Himself acts. He was in the past, and He shall be in the future.

ਨਾਨਕ ਕੇਵਲ ਉਸੇ ਦੀ ਪਰਸੰਸਾ ਕਰ, ਜੋ ਹਰ ਦਿਲ ਅੰਦਰ ਰਮਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।

O Nanak, praise the One, who is contained in each and every heart. ||53||

ਸਲੋਕ।

Salok:

ਰਹਿਮਤ ਦੇ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ, ਮੇਰੇ ਮਿਹਰਬਾਨ ਮਾਲਕ, ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਛਤ੍ਰ-ਛਾਇਆ ਹੇਠ ਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ।

O God, I have come to Your Sanctuary, O Merciful Lord, Ocean of compassion.

ਨਾਨਕ, ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਅੰਦੁੱਤੀ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਪਰਮ-ਪਰਸੰਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

One whose mind is filled with the One Word of the Lord, O Nanak, becomes totally blissful. ||1||

ਪਉੜੀ।

Pauree:

ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਅੰਦਰ ਤਿੰਨਾਂ ਜਹਾਨਾ ਦੀ ਅਸਥਾਪਨ ਹੈ।

In the Word, God established the three worlds.

ਸ਼ਬਦਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਕੱਠੇ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਵੇਦ ਵਾਚੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।

Created from the Word, the Vedas are contemplated.

ਲਫਜ਼ ਦਸਦੇ ਹਨ, ਕਿ ਸ਼ਾਸ਼ਤਰਾਂ, ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਤੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਪੁਰਾਣਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੀ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।

From the Word, came the Shaastras, Simritees and Puraanas.

ਹਰਫਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਲਿਖੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ, ਭਜਨ, ਸੰਭਾਸ਼ਨ ਅਤੇ ਲੈਕਚਰ।

From the Word, came the sound current of the Naad, speeches and explanations.

ਡਰ ਅਤੇ ਵਹਿਮ ਤੋਂ ਖਲਾਸੀ ਪਾਉਣ ਦਾ ਤਰੀਕਾ ਹਰਫਾਂ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਬਿਆਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।

From the Word, comes the way of liberation from fear and doubt.

ਲਫਜ਼ ਧਾਰਮਕ ਸੰਸਕਾਰਾਂ ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਪਵਿੱਤਰਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਮਜ਼ਹਬ ਨੂੰ ਵਰਨਣ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।

From the Word, come religious rituals, karma, sacredness and Dharma.

ਸਮੂਹ ਦਿੱਸਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਦੁਨੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਾਸ-ਰਹਿਤ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਵਰਤਮਾਨ ਹੈ।

In the visible universe, the Word is seen.

ਫਿਰ ਭੀ ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਸ਼੍ਰੋਮਣੀ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਅਟਕ ਵਿਚਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

O Nanak, the Supreme Lord God remains unattached and untouched. ||54||

ਸਲੋਕ।

Salok:

ਆਪਣੇ ਹੱਥ ਵਾਲੀ ਲੇਖਣੀ ਨਾਲ, ਪਹੁੰਚ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਬੰਦੇ ਦੀ ਕਿਸਮਤ ਉਸਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉਤੇ ਲਿਖਦਾ ਹੈ।

With pen in hand, the Inaccessible Lord writes man's destiny on his forehead.

ਲਾਸਾਨੀ ਸੁੰਦਰਤਾ ਵਾਲਾ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਸਮੂਹ ਨਾਲ (ਅੰਦਰ) ਰਮ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।

The Lord of Incomparable Beauty is involved with all.

ਤੇਰੀ ਮਹਿਮਾ, ਹੈ ਮਾਲਕ! ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਨਾਲ ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ।

I cannot describe Your Praises with my mouth, O Lord.

ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇਰਾ ਦੀਦਾਰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਫ਼ਰੋਫ਼ਤਾ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

Nanak is fascinated, gazing upon the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan; he is a sacrifice to You. ||1||

ਪਉੜੀ।

Pauree:

ਓ ਮੇਰੇ ਅਹਿੱਲ ਅਤੇ ਅਮਰ ਸੁਆਮੀ! ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਾਪ ਹਰਨਹਾਰ ਪਰਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!

O Immovable Lord, O Supreme Lord God, Imperishable, Destroyer of sins:

ਹੈ ਤੂੰ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ, ਮੁਕੰਮਲ ਪੁਰਖ! ਹੇ ਤੂੰ ਕਸ਼ਟ-ਕਟਣਹਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਨੇਕੀ ਦੇ ਖਜਾਨੇ!

O Perfect, All-pervading Lord, Destroyer of pain, Treasure of virtue:

ਹੈ ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਸਾਥੀ, ਹੇ ਸਰੂਪ-ਰਹਿਤ ਪੁਰਖ! ਹੈ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਆਸਰੇ ਸੁੰਨ ਅਫੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!

O Companion, Formless, Absolute Lord, Support of all:

ਹੈ ਧਰਤੀ ਦੇ ਥੰਮ੍ਹਣਹਾਰ! ਹੈ ਸਰੇਸ਼ਟਾਈਆਂ ਦੇ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ! ਜਿਸ ਪਾਸ ਸਦੀਵ ਹੀ ਤੀਬਰ ਵੀਚਾਰ ਹੈ।

O Lord of the Universe, Treasure of excellence, with clear eternal understanding:

ਹੇ ਪਰੇਡੇ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇਡੇ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਸੁਆਮੀ! ਤੂੰ ਹੈ ਸੀਗਾ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ।

Most Remote of the Remote, Lord God: You are, You were, and You shall always be.

ਹੇ ਸਾਧੂਆਂ ਦੇ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਥੀ, ਤੂੰ ਨਿਆਸਰਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ।

O Constant Companion of the Saints, You are the Support of the unsupported.

ਹੈ ਸਾਹਿਬ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਗੋਲਾ ਹਾਂ। ਮੈਂ ਨੇਕੀ ਵਿਹੁਣ ਹਾਂ। ਮੇਰੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੋਈ ਨੇਕੀ ਨਹੀਂ।

O my Lord and Master, I am Your slave. I am worthless, I have no worth at all.
