ਪੂਰਨ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਦਇਆ ਦੁਆਰਾ, ਨਾਨਕ ਨੇ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਦੌਲਤ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਹੈ।
Nanak has made the Lord's Name his wealth, by the Grace of the Perfect Guru. ||2||

ਧੋਹੁ. ਨ ਚਲੀ ਖਸਮ ਨਾਲਿ; ਲਬਿ ਮੋਹਿ ਵਿਗੁਤੇ ॥
dhohu. na chalee khasam naal; lab mohi vigute |
ਸਿਰ ਦੇ ਸਾਈਂ ਨਾਲ ਧੋਖਾ ਕੰਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ। ਲਾਲਚ ਅਤੇ ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ਮਮਤਾ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਤਬਾਹ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
Deception does not work with our Lord and Master; through their greed and emotional attachment, people are ruined.
ਕਰਤਬ ਕਰਨਿ ਭਲੇਰਿਆ; ਮਦਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਸੁਤੇ ॥
karatab karan bhaleriaa; mad maaeaa sute |
ਇਨਸਾਨ ਮੰਦੇ ਅਮਲ ਕਮਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਧਨ-ਦੌਲਤ ਦੇ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਅੰਦਰ ਸੌ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।
They do their evil deeds, and sleep in the intoxication of Maya.
ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਜੂਨਿ ਭਵਾਈਅਨਿ; ਜਮ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਮੁਤੇ ॥

ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਜੂਨੀਆਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਧਕੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਮੌਤ ਦੇ ਰਸਤੇ ਤੇ ਛਡ ਦਿਤੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
Time and time again, they are consigned to reincarnation, and abandoned on the path of Death.
ਕੀਤਾ ਪਾਇਨਿ ਆਪਣਾ; ਦੁਖ ਸੇਤੀ ਜੁਤੇ ॥

ਤਕਲੀਫ ਨਾਲ ਜੋਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਅਮਲਾਂ ਦਾ ਫਲ ਪਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
They receive the consequences of their own actions, and are yoked to their pain.
ਨਾਨਕ. ਨਾਇ ਵਿਸਾਰਿਐ; ਸਭ ਮੰਦੀ ਰੁਤੇ ॥੧੨॥

ਨਾਨਕ, ਮਾੜੇ ਹਨ ਸਾਰੇ ਹੀ ਮੌਸਮ, ਜਦ ਇਨਸਾਨ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਭੁਲਾ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
O Nanak, if one forgets the Name, all the seasons are evil. ||12||

ਉਠੰਦਿਆ ਬਹੰਦਿਆ ਸਵੰਦਿਆ; ਸੁਖੁ ਸੋਇ ॥

ਖਲੋਤਿਆਂ, ਬਹਿੰਦਿਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਸੁੱਤਿਆਂ ਉਹ ਸ਼੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਆਰਾਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਿਚਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
While standing up, sitting down and sleeping, be at peace;
ਨਾਨਕ. ਨਾਮਿ ਸਲਾਹਿਐ; ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥

ਅਤੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਉਸਤਤੀ ਕਰਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਇਨਸਾਨ ਦਾ ਚਿੱਤ ਤੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਠੰਢੇ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ!
O Nanak, praising the Naam, the Name of the Lord, the mind and body are cooled and soothed. ||1||

ਲਾਲਚਿ ਅਟਿਆ. ਨਿਤ ਫਿਰੈ; ਸੁਆਰਥੁ. ਕਰੇ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥

ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਲੋਭ ਨਾਲ ਭਰਿਆ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਨੇਕ ਅਮਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਮਾਉਂਦਾ।
Filled with greed, he constantly wanders around; he does not do any good deeds.
ਜਿਸੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟੈ ਨਾਨਕਾ; ਤਿਸੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਸੋਇ ॥੨॥

ਨਾਨਕ ਉਹ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਵਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਦੇ ਹਨ।
O Nanak, the Lord abides within the mind of one who meets with the Guru. ||2||

ਸਭੇ ਵਸਤੂ ਕਉੜੀਆ; ਸਚੇ ਨਾਉ ਮਿਠਾ ॥

ਤਲਖ ਹਨ, ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਚੀਜ਼ਾਂ। ਕੇਵਲ ਸੱਚੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਮਿੱਠਾ ਹੈ।
All material things are bitter; the True Name alone is sweet.
ਸਾਦੁ ਆਇਆ. ਤਿਨ ਹਰਿ ਜਨਾਂ; ਚਖਿ ਸਾਧੀ ਡਿਠਾ ॥
saad aaeaa. tin har janaan; chakh saadhee dditthaa |
ਉਹ ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਅਤੇ ਸੰਤ, ਜੋ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਛਕਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸੁਆਦ ਨੂੰ ਅਨੁਭਵ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
Those humble servants of the Lord who taste it, come to savor its flavor.
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮਿ ਜਿਸੁ ਲਿਖਿਆ; ਮਨਿ ਤਿਸੈ ਵੁਠਾ ॥

ਨਾਮ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਵਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਲਈ ਸ਼ਰੋਮਣੀ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨੇ ਐਸਾ ਲਿਖ ਛਡਿਆ ਹੈ।
It comes to dwell within the mind of those who are so pre-destined by the Supreme Lord God.
ਇਕੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ; ਭਾਉ ਦੁਯਾ ਕੁਠਾ ॥
eik niranjan rav rahiaa; bhaau duyaa kutthaa |
ਉਹ ਹੋਰਸ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਨੂੰ ਮੇਟ ਸੁਟਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਅਦੁੱਤੀ ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਨੂੰ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹੈ।
The One Immaculate Lord is pervading everywhere; He destroys the love of duality.
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਮੰਗੈ ਜੋੜਿ ਕਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ; ਦੇਵੈ ਤੁਠਾ ॥੧੩॥

ਹੱਥ ਬੰਨ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਯਾਚਨਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਕਿ ਆਪਣੀ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਬਖਸ਼ਿਆ ਹੈ।
Nanak begs for the Lord's Name, with his palms pressed together; by His Pleasure, God has granted it. ||13||

ਜਾਚੜੀ ਸਾ ਸਾਰੁ; ਜੋ ਜਾਚੰਦੀ ਹੇਕੜੋ ॥
jaacharree saa saar; jo jaachandee hekarro |
ਉਹੀ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਸਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਮੰਗਣਾ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਇਕ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨੂੰ ਮੰਗਣਾ ਹੈ।
The most excellent begging is begging for the One Lord.
ਗਾਲੑੀ ਬਿਆ ਵਿਕਾਰ; ਨਾਨਕ ਧਣੀ ਵਿਹੂਣੀਆ ॥੧॥
gaalaee biaa vikaar; naanak dhanee vihooneea |1|
ਮਾਲਕ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਬਗੈਰ, ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਗਲਾਂ ਬਾਤਾਂ ਪਾਪ ਭਰੀਆਂ ਹਨ।
Other talk is corrupt, O Nanak, except that of the Lord Master. ||1||

ਨੀਹਿ ਜਿ ਵਿਧਾ ਮੰਨੁ; ਪਛਾਣੂ. ਵਿਰਲੋ ਥਿਓ ॥
neehi ji vidhaa man; pachhaanoo. viralo thio |
ਕੋਈ ਟਾਵਾਂ ਹੀ ਰੱਬ ਦਾ ਸਿਆਣੂ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਚਿੱਤ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਨਾਲ ਵਿੰਨ੍ਹਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
One who recognizes the Lord is very rare; his mind is pierced through with the Love of the Lord.
ਜੋੜਣਹਾਰਾ ਸੰਤੁ; ਨਾਨਕ. ਪਾਧਰੁ ਪਧਰੋ ॥੨॥
jorranahaaraa sant; naanak. paadhar padharo |2|
ਹਮਵਾਰ ਕੋਮਲ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ ਰਸਤਾ ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੇਕਰ ਸਾਧੂ ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ਜੀ ਮਿਲਾਉਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਹੋਣ।
Such a Saint is the Uniter, O Nanak - he straightens out the path. ||2||

ਸੋਈ ਸੇਵਿਹੁ ਜੀਅੜੇ; ਦਾਤਾ ਬਖਸਿੰਦੁ ॥

ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦੜੀਏ! ਤੂੰ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਚਾਕਰੀ ਕਮਾ, ਜੋ ਦਾਤਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਬਖਸ਼ਣਹਾਰ ਹੈ।
Serve Him, O my soul, who is the Giver and the Forgiver.
ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਸਭਿ ਬਿਨਾਸੁ ਹੋਨਿ; ਸਿਮਰਤ ਗੋਵਿੰਦੁ ॥
kilavikh sabh binaas hon; simarat govind |
ਸੰਸਾਰ ਦੇ ਰਖਿਅਕ ਦਾ ਚਿੰਤਨ ਕਰਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਾਪ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
All sinful mistakes are erased, by meditating in remembrance on the Lord of the Universe.
ਹਰਿ ਮਾਰਗੁ. ਸਾਧੂ ਦਸਿਆ; ਜਪੀਐ ਗੁਰਮੰਤੁ ॥

ਸੰਤ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਰਸਤਾ ਦਰਸਾਇਆ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਲਈ ਮੈਂ ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਾਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ!
The Holy Saint has shown me the Way to the Lord; I chant the GurMantra.
ਮਾਇਆ ਸੁਆਦ ਸਭਿ ਫਿਕਿਆ; ਹਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਵੰਦੁ ॥
maaeaa suaad sabh fikiaa; har man bhaavand |
ਧਨ-ਦੌਲਤ ਦੇ ਰਸ ਸਾਰੇ ਫਿਕੇ ਹਨ। ਕੇਵਲ ਭਗਵਾਨ ਹੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ।
The taste of Maya is totally bland and insipid; the Lord alone is pleasing to my mind.
ਧਿਆਇ ਨਾਨਕ ਪਰਮੇਸਰੈ; ਜਿਨਿ ਦਿਤੀ ਜਿੰਦੁ ॥੧੪॥
dhiaae naanak paramesarai; jin ditee jind |14|
ਤੂੰ ਸ਼੍ਰੋਮਣੀ ਸiਾਹਬ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰ, ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ, ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਜਿੰਦ ਜਾਨ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਬਖਸ਼ੀ ਹੈ।
Meditate, O Nanak, on the Transcendent Lord, who has blessed you with your soul and your life. ||14||

ਵਤ ਲਗੀ ਸਚੇ ਨਾਮ ਕੀ; ਜੋ ਬੀਜੇ ਸੋ ਖਾਇ ॥
vat lagee sache naam kee; jo beeje so khaae |
ਸਤਿਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਬੀਜਣ ਦਾ ਮੁਨਾਸਬ ਵੇਲਾ ਆ ਪੁੱਜਾ ਹੈ। ਜੋ ਕੋਈ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਬੀਜੇਗਾ, ਓਹੀ ਫਲ ਪਾਵੇਗਾ।
The time has come to plant the seed of the Lord's Name; one who plants it, shall eat its fruit.
ਤਿਸਹਿ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਨਾਨਕਾ; ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਆਇ ॥੧॥
tiseh paraapat naanakaa; jis no likhiaa aae |1|
ਕੇਵਲ ਓਹੀ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਉਂਦਾ (ਬੀਜਦਾ) ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਐਕੁਰ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ!
He alone receives it, O Nanak, whose destiny is so pre-ordained. ||1||

ਮੰਗਣਾ ਤ ਸਚੁ ਇਕੁ; ਜਿਸੁ ਤੁਸਿ ਦੇਵੈ ਆਪਿ ॥

ਜੇਕਰ ਬੰਦੇ ਨੇ ਮੰਗਣਾ ਹੈ, ਤਦ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਇਕ ਸੱਚਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਮੰਗਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ। ਕੇਵਲ ਓਹੀ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਈਂ ਖੁਦ ਆਪਣੀ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
If one begs, then he should beg for the Name of the True One, which is given only by His Pleasure.
ਜਿਤੁ ਖਾਧੈ. ਮਨੁ ਤਿ੍ਰਪਤੀਐ; ਨਾਨਕ. ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦਾਤਿ ॥੨॥
jit khaadhai. man tripateeai; naanak. saahib daat |2|
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੀ ਬਖਸ਼ੀਸ਼ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਚੱਖਣ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਆਤਮਾ ਰੱਜ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
Eating this gift from the Lord and Master, O Nanak, the mind is satisfied. ||2||

ਲਾਹਾ ਜਗ ਮਹਿ ਸੇ ਖਟਹਿ; ਜਿਨ ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਰਾਸਿ ॥

ਕੇਵਲ ਓਹੀ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਅੰਦਰ ਨਫ਼ਾ ਕਮਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੱਲੇ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦੌਲਤ ਦੀ ਪੂੰਜੀ ਹੈ।
They alone earn profit in this world, who have the wealth of the Lord's Name.
ਦੁਤੀਆ ਭਾਉ. ਨ ਜਾਣਨੀ; ਸਚੇ ਦੀ ਆਸ ॥
duteea bhaau. na jaananee; sache dee aas |
ਉਹ ਹੋਰਸੁ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਣਦੇ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਅਤੇ ਕੇਵਲ ਸੱਚੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੀ ਉਮੀਦ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ।
They do not know the love of duality; they place their hopes in the True Lord.
ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਏਕੁ ਸਰੇਵਿਆ; ਹੋਰੁ ਸਭ ਵਿਣਾਸੁ ॥
nihachal ek sareviaa; hor sabh vinaas |
ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਖਾਹਿਸ਼ਾਂ ਨਵਿਰਤ ਕਰਕੇ, ਉਹ ਕੇਵਲ ਸਦੀਵੀ ਸਥਿਰ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
They serve the One Eternal Lord, and give up everything else.
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਜਿਸੁ ਵਿਸਰੈ; ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਸਾਸੁ ॥
paarabraham jis visarai; tis birathaa saas |
ਬੇਫ਼ਾਇਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸੁਆਸ, ਜੋ ਉਚੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨੂੰ ਭੁਲਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
One who forgets the Supreme Lord God - useless is his breath.
ਕੰਠਿ ਲਾਇ ਜਨ ਰਖਿਆ; ਨਾਨਕ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਸੁ ॥੧੫॥
kantth laae jan rakhiaa; naanak bal jaas |15|
ਨਾਨਕ ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਆਪਣੇ ਗੋਲੇ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਛਾਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਲਾ ਕੇ ਬਚਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
God draws His humble servant close in His loving embrace and protects him - Nanak is a sacrifice to Him. ||15||

ਸ਼੍ਰੋਮਣੀ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੀ ਐਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਹੋਈ ਅਤੇ ਬਾਰਸ਼ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਹੋਣ ਲੱਗ ਪਈ।
The Supreme Lord God gave the Order, and the rain automatically began to fall.
ਅੰਨੁ ਧੰਨੁ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਉਪਜਿਆ; ਪਿ੍ਰਥਮੀ ਰਜੀ ਤਿਪਤਿ ਅਘਾਇ ॥
an dhan bahut upajiaa; prithamee rajee tipat aghaae |
ਘਣੇਰਾ ਦਾਣਾ ਤੇ ਦੌਲਤ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਏ ਅਤੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਚੰਗੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਧ੍ਰਾਪ ਅਤੇ ਸੰਤੁਸ਼ਟ ਹੋ ਗਈ।
Grain and wealth were produced in abundance; the earth was totally satisfied and satiated.
ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਗੁਣ ਉਚਰੈ; ਦੁਖੁ ਦਾਲਦੁ ਗਇਆ ਬਿਲਾਇ ॥
sadaa sadaa gun ucharai; dukh daalad geaa bilaae |
ਸਾਧੂ, ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ, ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਹੀ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦਾ ਜੱਸ ਉਚਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਕਸ਼ਟ ਤੇ ਗਰੀਬੀ ਦੂਰ ਦੌੜ ਗਏ ਹਨ।
Forever and ever, chant the Glorious Praises of the Lord, and pain and poverty shall run away.
ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਪਾਇਆ; ਮਿਲਿਆ ਤਿਸੈ ਰਜਾਇ ॥
poorab likhiaa paaeaa; miliaa tisai rajaae |
ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਉਹ ਕੁਛ ਪਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਉਸ ਲਈ ਮੁੱਢ ਤੋਂ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ। ਉਸ ਦੇ ਭਾਣੇ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਉਹ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
People obtain that which they are pre-ordained to receive, according to the Will of the Lord.
ਪਰਮੇਸਰਿ ਜੀਵਾਲਿਆ; ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਸੈ ਧਿਆਇ ॥੧॥
paramesar jeevaaliaa; naanak tisai dhiaae |1|
ਤੂੰ ਉਸ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰ, ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਜੀਉਂਦੇ ਜਾਗਦੇ ਰਖਿਆ ਹੈ।
The Transcendent Lord keeps you alive; O Nanak, meditate on Him. ||1||
