Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji

ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦਾ ਸੱਚਾ ਸੇਵਕ ਹੈ।

- his name is truly Ram Das, the Lord's servant.

ਉਹ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਰੂਹ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

He comes to have the Vision of the Lord, the Supreme Soul.

ਸਾਈਂ ਦੇ ਗੋਲੇ ਦੇ ਗੋਲੇ ਵਾਲੇ ਵਲਵਲੇ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਉਹ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

Deeming himself to be the slave of the Lord's slaves, he obtains it.

ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਉਹ ਨਫ਼ਰ, ਜੋ ਸਦੀਵ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਨੇੜੇ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਪਰਮ ਨੇੜੇ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ,

He knows the Lord to be Ever-present, close at hand.

ਉਸ ਦੇ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਬੂਲ ਪੈ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

Such a servant is honored in the Court of the Lord.

ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਉਤੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

To His servant, He Himself shows His Mercy.

ਤਦ ਉਸ ਸੇਵਕ ਨੂੰ ਸਮੂਹ ਗਿਆਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।

Such a servant understands everything.

ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਆਦਮੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਦਿਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਵਿਚਰਦਾ ਹੈ,

Amidst all, his soul is unattached.

ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹੀ ਮਰਿਆਦਾ ਹੈ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਦੀ।

Such is the way, O Nanak, of the Lord's servant. ||6||

ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਦਿਲ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ,

One who, in his soul, loves the Will of God,

ਉਹ ਜੀਉਂਦੇ ਜੀ ਮੁਕਤ ਹੋਇਆ ਆਖਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

is said to be Jivan Mukta - liberated while yet alive.

ਜੇਹੋ ਜੇਹੀ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹੋ ਜੇਹੀ ਹੀ ਗ਼ਮੀ।

As is joy, so is sorrow to him.

ਉਸ ਹਾਲਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਦੀਵੀ ਪਰਸੰਨਤਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਵਿਛੋੜਾ ਨਹੀਂ।

He is in eternal bliss, and is not separated from God.

ਜਿਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸੋਨਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਹੀ ਮਿੱਟੀ ਘੱਟਾ।

As is gold, so is dust to him.

ਉਸ ਦੇ ਲਈ ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਸੁਧਾਰਸ ਹੈ, ਉਹੋ ਜੇਹੀ ਹੀ ਹੈ ਖੱਟੀ ਜ਼ਹਿਰ।

As is ambrosial nectar, so is bitter poison to him.

ਉਸ ਦੇ ਲਈ ਓਹੋ ਜਿਹੀ ਹੈ ਇਜ਼ਤ ਅਤੇ ਉਹੋ ਜਿਹੀ ਬੇਇਜ਼ਤੀ।

As is honor, so is dishonor.

ਜੇਹੋ ਜੇਹਾ ਕੰਗਲਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹੋ ਜੇਹਾ ਹੀ ਬਾਦਸ਼ਾਹ।

As is the beggar, so is the king.

ਜੋ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਨੂੰ ਠੀਕ ਰਸਤਾ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ,

Whatever God ordains, that is his way.

ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਇਨਸਾਨ, ਜੀਊਦੇ ਜੀ ਮੁਕਤ ਆਖਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

O Nanak, that being is known as Jivan Mukta. ||7||

ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਥਾਵਾਂ ਸ਼੍ਰੋਮਣੀ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੀਆਂ ਮਲਕੀਅਤ ਹਨ।

All places belong to the Supreme Lord God.

ਜਿਹੋ ਜਿਹੇ ਘਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਰਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਹੀ ਨਾਮ ਉਹ ਧਾਰਨ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ।

According to the homes in which they are placed, so are His creatures named.

ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਖੁਦ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਨ ਅਤੇ ਕਰਾਉਣ ਦੇ ਸਮਰਥ ਹੈ।

He Himself is the Doer, the Cause of causes.

ਜੋ ਕੁਛ ਮਾਲਕ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ, ਓਹੀ, ਆਖਰਕਾਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

Whatever pleases God, ultimately comes to pass.

ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਲਹਿਰਾਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਫੈਲਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।

He Himself is All-pervading, in endless waves.

ਪਰਮ ਪੁਰਖ ਦੇ ਕਉਤਕ ਜਾਣੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੇ।

The playful sport of the Supreme Lord God cannot be known.

ਜਿਹੋ ਜਿਹੀ ਸਮਝ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਪ੍ਰਦਾਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਹੀ ਪਰਕਾਸ਼ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

As the understanding is given, so is one enlightened.

ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ ਸ਼੍ਰੋਮਣੀ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਅਮਰ ਹੈ।

The Supreme Lord God, the Creator, is eternal and everlasting.

ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ, ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ, ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਉਹ ਮਇਆਵਾਨ ਹੈ।

Forever, forever and ever, He is merciful.

ਉਸ ਦਾ ਆਰਾਧਨ ਤੇ ਆਰਾਧਨ ਕਰਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਪਰਮ ਪਰਸੰਨ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।

Remembering Him, remembering Him in meditation, O Nanak, one is blessed with ecstasy. ||8||9||

ਸਲੋਕ।

Salok:

ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੇ ਇਨਸਾਨ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦਾ ਜੱਸ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਂ ਕੋਈ ਅਖੀਰ ਤੇ ਨਾਂ ਹੀ ਓੜਕ ਹੈ।

Many people praise the Lord. He has no end or limitation.

ਮਾਲਕ ਨੇ ਬਹੁਤਿਆਂ ਤਰੀਕਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਵੰਨਗੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਉਤਪਤੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ।

O Nanak, God created the creation, with its many ways and various species. ||1||

ਅਸ਼ਟਪਦੀ।

Ashtapadee:

ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਕ੍ਰੋੜਾਂ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਉਪਾਸ਼ਨਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਨ।

Many millions are His devotees.

ਕਈ ਕ੍ਰੋੜ ਹਨ, ਧਾਰਮਕ ਅਤੇ ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ਕਰਮ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ।

Many millions perform religious rituals and worldly duties.

ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਕ੍ਰੋੜਾਂ ਯਾਤ੍ਰਾ-ਅਸਥਾਨਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਹਨ।

Many millions become dwellers at sacred shrines of pilgrimage.

ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਕ੍ਰੋੜ ਵੈਰਾਗੀ ਹੋ ਜੰਗਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਭੌਦੇਂ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਹਨ।

Many millions wander as renunciates in the wilderness.

ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਕ੍ਰੋੜ ਵੇਦਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਣਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਨ।

Many millions listen to the Vedas.

ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਕ੍ਰੋੜ ਤਪੀ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।

Many millions become austere penitents.

ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਕ੍ਰੋੜ ਆਪਣੇ ਦਿਲਾਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਟਿਕਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ।

Many millions enshrine meditation within their souls.

ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਕ੍ਰੋੜ ਕਵੀਸ਼ਰ ਕਵੀਸ਼ਰੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨੂੰ ਸੋਚਦੇ ਸਮਝਦੇ ਹਨ।

Many millions of poets contemplate Him through poetry.

ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਕ੍ਰੋੜ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਿਤ ਨਾਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਰਾਧਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।

Many millions meditate on His eternally new Naam.

ਤਾਂ ਭੀ, ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ ਦਾ ਓੜਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਉਂਦੇ।

O Nanak, none can find the limits of the Creator. ||1||

ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਕ੍ਰੋੜਾਂ ਸਵੈ-ਹੰਕਾਰੀ ਹਨ।

Many millions become self-centered.

ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਕ੍ਰੋੜ, ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਬੇਸਮਝ ਹਨ।

Many millions are blinded by ignorance.

ਅਨੇਕ ਕ੍ਰੋੜ ਪੱਥਰ-ਦਿਲ ਕੰਜੂਸ ਹਨ।

Many millions are stone-hearted misers.

ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਕ੍ਰੋੜ ਰੁੱਖੇ ਅਤੇ ਨਾਂ-ਗ੍ਰਹਿਣ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਿਲਦੇ ਹਨ।

Many millions are heartless, with dry, withered souls.

ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਕਰੋੜ ਹੋਰਨਾ ਦਾ ਧੰਨ ਚੁਰਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ।

Many millions steal the wealth of others.

ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਕ੍ਰੋੜ ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।

Many millions slander others.

ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਕ੍ਰੋੜ ਧੰਨ ਇਕੱਤ੍ਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਸ਼ਟ ਉਠਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ।

Many millions struggle in Maya.

ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਕ੍ਰੋੜ ਬਾਹਰਲੇ ਮੁਲਕਾਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਹਨ।

Many millions wander in foreign lands.

ਜਿਥੇ ਕਿਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਲਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਥੇ ਉਥੇ ਉਹ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ।

Whatever God attaches them to - with that they are engaged.

ਨਾਨਕ, ਕੇਵਲ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ ਹੀ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ ਦੀ ਖਲਕਤ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ।

O Nanak, the Creator alone knows the workings of His creation. ||2||

ਕਈ ਕ੍ਰੋੜ ਹਨ, ਕ੍ਰਾਮਾਤੀ ਬੰਦੇ, ਬ੍ਰਹਿਮਚਾਰੀ ਅਤੇ ਯੋਗੀ।

Many millions are Siddhas, celibates and Yogis.

ਕਈ ਕ੍ਰੋੜ ਹਨ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਜੋ ਰੰਗ ਰਲੀਆਂ ਮਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ।

Many millions are kings, enjoying worldly pleasures.

ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਕ੍ਰੋੜ ਪੰਛੀ ਅਤੇ ਸੱਪ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੇ ਗਏ ਹਨ।

Many millions of birds and snakes have been created.

ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਕ੍ਰੋੜ ਪੱਥਰ ਅਤੇ ਰੁੱਖ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੇ ਗਏ ਹਨ।

Many millions of stones and trees have been produced.

ਕਈ ਕ੍ਰੋੜ ਹਨ, ਹਵਾਵਾਂ, ਜਲ ਅਤੇ ਅੱਗਾਂ।

Many millions are the winds, waters and fires.

ਕਈ ਕ੍ਰੋੜ ਹਨ ਮੁਲਕ ਅਤੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਦੇ ਖੰਡ।

Many millions are the countries and realms of the world.

ਅਨੇਕ ਕ੍ਰੋੜ ਹਨ ਚੰਦ੍ਰਮੇ, ਸੂਰਜ ਅਤੇ ਤਾਰੇ।

Many millions are the moons, suns and stars.
