Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji

ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਨਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਚਕ੍ਰ-ਚਿਨ੍ਹ-ਰਹਿਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹੈ।

The God-conscious being is himself the Formless Lord.

ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਕੇਵਲ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਨੂੰ ਸਜਦੀ ਹੈ।

The glory of the God-conscious being belongs to the God-conscious being alone.

ਨਾਨਕ ਜੋ ਇਨਸਾਨ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਹੈ।

O Nanak, the God-conscious being is the Lord of all. ||8||8||

ਸਲੋਕ।

Salok:

ਜੋ ਆਪਣੇ ਦਿਲ ਅੰਦਰ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਟਿਕਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ,

One who enshrines the Naam within the heart,

ਜੋ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨੂੰ ਦੇਖਦਾ ਹੈ,

who sees the Lord God in all,

ਅਤੇ ਜੋ ਹਰ-ਮੁਹਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਣਾਮ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

who, each and every moment, bows in reverence to the Lord Master

ਨਾਨਕ, ਐਹੋ ਜੇਹਾ ਕਿਸੇ ਨਾਲ ਨਾਂ ਲਗਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਸਾਧੂ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਤਾਰ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

- O Nanak, such a one is the true 'touch-nothing Saint', who emancipates everyone. ||1||

ਅਸ਼ਟਪਦੀ।

Ashtapadee:

ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਜੀਭਾ ਝੂਠ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਲਗਦੀ ਤਕ ਨਹੀਂ,

One whose tongue does not touch falsehood;

ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਪੁਰਖ ਦੇ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਦੇ ਲਈ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਹੈ।

whose mind is filled with love for the Blessed Vision of the Pure Lord,

ਜਿਸ ਦੀਆਂ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਪਤਨੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਸੁੰਦਰਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਤਕਦੀਆਂ।

whose eyes do not gaze upon the beauty of others' wives,

ਜੋ ਨੇਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਧੂਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,

who serves the Holy and loves the Saints' Congregation,

ਜੋ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਕਿਸੇ ਦੀ ਚੁਗਲੀ-ਬਖੀਲੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੁਣਦਾ,

whose ears do not listen to slander against anyone,

ਜੋ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਮਾੜਾ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ,

who deems himself to be the worst of all,

ਜੋ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਦਇਆ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਬਦੀ ਨੂੰ ਤਿਆਗ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,

who, by Guru's Grace, renounces corruption,

ਜੋ ਆਪਣੇ ਦਿਲ ਦੀਆਂ ਖਾਹਿਸ਼ਾਂ ਆਪਣੀ ਆਤਮਾ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਹਟਾ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,

who banishes the mind's evil desires from his mind,

ਅਤੇ ਜੋ ਆਪਣੇ ਕਾਮ-ਵੇਗ ਉਤੇ ਫਤਹ ਪਾ ਲੈਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਪੰਜਾਂ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ-ਨਾਸਕ ਪਾਪਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।

who conquers his sexual instincts and is free of the five sinful passions

ਨਾਨਕ, ਕ੍ਰੋੜਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਹੀ ਐਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਅਪਰਸ ਹੈ।

- O Nanak, among millions, there is scarcely one such 'touch-nothing Saint'. ||1||

ਓਹੀ ਵੈਸ਼ਨਵ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਉਤੇ ਉਹ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਖੁਸ਼ ਹੈ।

The true Vaishnaav, the devotee of Vishnu, is the one with whom God is thoroughly pleased.

ਜੋ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮੋਹਨੀ ਤੋਂ ਅਲਗ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,

He dwells apart from Maya.

ਅਤੇ ਜੋ ਚੰਗੇ ਅਮਲ ਕਮਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਫਲ ਦੀ ਚਾਹਣਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ।

Performing good deeds, he does not seek rewards.

ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਹੈ ਈਮਾਨ ਉਸ ਵਿਸ਼ਨੂੰ ਦੇ ਉਪਾਸ਼ਕ ਦਾ।

Spotlessly pure is the religion of such a Vaishnaav;

ਉਹ ਕਿਸੇ ਚੀਜ਼ ਲਈ ਭੀ ਸਿਲੇ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਹਿਸ਼ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ।

he has no desire for the fruits of his labors.

ਉਹ ਸਿਰਫ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਜੱਸ ਗਾਉਣ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਮਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।

He is absorbed in devotional worship and the singing of Kirtan, the songs of the Lord's Glory.

ਉਸ ਦੀ ਆਤਮਾ ਅਤੇ ਦੇਹਿ ਅੰਦਰ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦੇ ਪਾਲਣਹਾਰ ਦੀ ਬੰਦਗੀ ਹੈ।

Within his mind and body, he meditates in remembrance on the Lord of the Universe.

ਉਹ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਮਿਹਰਬਾਨ ਹੈ।

He is kind to all creatures.

ਉਹ ਖੁਦ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਪੱਕੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਫੜੀ ਰਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਜਾਪ ਕਰਵਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

He holds fast to the Naam, and inspires others to chant it.

ਨਾਨਕ ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਵੈਸ਼ਨਵ ਮਹਾਨ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

O Nanak, such a Vaishnaav obtains the supreme status. ||2||

ਉਹ ਹੀ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦਾ ਉਪਾਸ਼ਕ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੀ ਅਨੁਰਾਗੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਲਈ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਹੈ।

The true Bhagaautee, the devotee of Adi Shakti, loves the devotional worship of God.

ਉਹ ਸਮੂਹ ਬਦ-ਚਲਣ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਉਠਕ ਬੈਠਕ ਛੱਡ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,

He forsakes the company of all wicked people.

ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਚਿੱਤ ਤੋਂ ਸਾਰਾ ਸੰਦੇਹ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।

All doubts are removed from his mind.

ਉਹ ਪਰਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਅਨੁਭਵ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਕੇਵਲ ਉਸੇ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਉਪਾਸ਼ਨਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

He performs devotional service to the Supreme Lord God in all.

ਸਤਿ ਸੰਗਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਉਹ ਗੁਨਾਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਗਿਲਾਜ਼ਤ ਨੂੰ ਧੋ ਸੁਟਦਾ ਹੈ।

In the Company of the Holy, the filth of sin is washed away.

ਸ਼੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹੇ ਭਗਉਤੀ ਦੀ ਸੋਚ-ਸਮਝ।

The wisdom of such a Bhagaautee becomes supreme.

ਸਦਾ ਤੇ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਲਈ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਾਈਂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਮਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

He constantly performs the service of the Supreme Lord God.

ਆਪਣੀ ਆਤਮਾ ਅਤੇ ਦੇਹਿ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਦੇ ਸਮਰਪਣ ਕਰ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

He dedicates his mind and body to the Love of God.

ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਟਿਕਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

The Lotus Feet of the Lord abide in his heart.

ਨਾਨਕ, ਐਹੋ ਜੇਹਾ ਭਗਉਤੀ ਭਗਵਾਨ, ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

O Nanak, such a Bhagaautee attains the Lord God. ||3||

ਉਹ ਹੀ ਵਿਦਵਾਨ ਹੈ, ਜਿਹੜਾ ਆਪਣੀ ਜਿੰਦਗੀ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

He is a true Pandit, a religious scholar, who instructs his own mind.

ਉਹ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਲਈ ਆਪਣੇ ਦਿਲ ਅੰਦਰ ਪੜਤਾਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,

He searches for the Lord's Name within his own soul.

ਅਤੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਸ਼੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਪਾਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

He drinks in the Exquisite Nectar of the Lord's Name.

ਉਸ ਪੰਡਤ ਦੀ ਸਿਖ-ਮਤ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਦੁਨੀਆਂ ਜੀਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ।

By that Pandit's teachings, the world lives.

ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਥਾ ਵਾਰਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਦਿਲ ਅੰਦਰ ਇਸਥਿਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,

He implants the Sermon of the Lord in his heart.

ਉਹ ਪੰਡਤ ਮੁੜ ਕੇ ਜੂਨੀਆਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਪਰਵੇਸ਼ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ।

Such a Pandit is not cast into the womb of reincarnation again.

ਉਹ ਵੇਦਾਂ, ਪੁਰਾਣਾ ਅਤੇ ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਤੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਰ ਤੱਤ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ,

He understands the fundamental essence of the Vedas, the Puraanas and the Simritees.

ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟਮਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਅਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟ ਪੁਰਖ ਅੰਦਰ ਅਨੁਭਵ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,

In the unmanifest, he sees the manifest world to exist.

ਅਤੇ ਚਾਰੋਂ ਹੀ ਜਾਤੀਆਂ ਸਮੂਹ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਖ-ਮਤ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,

He gives instruction to people of all castes and social classes.

ਨਾਨਕ, ਉਸ ਪੰਡਤ ਨੂੰ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਣਾਮ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ।

O Nanak, to such a Pandit, I bow in salutation forever. ||4||

ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਬੀ ਦੀ ਗਿਆਤ ਹਰ ਇਕਸ ਨੂੰ ਦਰਸਾਈ ਗਈ ਹੈ।

The Beej Mantra, the Seed Mantra, is spiritual wisdom for everyone.

ਚਾਰਾ ਹੀ ਜਾਤਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਉਚਾਰਨ ਕਰੇ।

Anyone, from any class, may chant the Naam.

ਜੋ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਉਚਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮੁਕਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

Whoever chants it, is emancipated.

ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਪੁਰਸ਼ ਹੀ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਤਿਸੰਗਤ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

And yet, rare are those who attain it, in the Company of the Holy.

ਆਪਣੀ ਦਇਆ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਟਿਕਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ

By His Grace, He enshrines it within.

ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਡੰਗਰ ਭੂਤ ਪੱਥਰ ਵਰਗੇ ਜੜ੍ਹ ਭੀ ਪਾਰ ਉਤਰ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।

Even beasts, ghosts and the stone-hearted are saved.

ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਬੀਮਾਰੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਦਾਰੂ ਹੈ।

The Naam is the panacea, the remedy to cure all ills.

ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੀ ਕੀਰਤੀ ਗਾਇਨ ਕਰਨਾ ਪਰਮ-ਪਰਸੰਨਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਦਾ ਸਰੂਪ ਹੈ।

Singing the Glory of God is the embodiment of bliss and emancipation.

ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਤਰੀਕੇ ਜਾਂ ਹੋਰਸ ਧਾਰਮਕਤਾ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ।

It cannot be obtained by any religious rituals.

ਨਾਨਕ, ਕੇਵਲ ਉਹੀ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ, ਵਿੱਚ ਐਨ ਆਰੰਭ ਤੋਂ ਐਸਾ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

O Nanak, he alone obtains it, whose karma is so pre-ordained. ||5||

ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਸ਼੍ਰੋਮਣੀ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨੇ ਵਾਸਾ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ,

One whose mind is a home for the Supreme Lord God
