Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji

ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਆਪਣਾ ਹੱਥ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਬਚਾ ਲੈਦਾ ਹੈ।

He preserves them, and holds out His Hands to protect them.

ਆਦਮੀ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਤ੍ਰੀਕਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਉਪਰਾਲੇ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,

You may make all sorts of efforts,

ਪਰ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਕੰਮ ਨਿਸਫਲ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।

but these attempts are in vain.

(ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਬਾਝੋਂ) ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਮਾਰ ਜਾ ਰੱਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ।

No one else can kill or preserve

ਸਮੂਹ ਪ੍ਰਾਣਧਾਰੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹੀ ਰਖਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।

He is the Protector of all beings.

ਤੂੰ ਕਿਉਂ iਫ਼ਕਰ ਅੰਦੇਸਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਹੇ ਫ਼ਾਨੀ ਬੰਦੇ?

So why are you so anxious, O mortal?

ਨਾਨਕ ਤੂੰ ਅਣਡਿੱਠ ਅਤੇ ਅਸਚਰਜ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰ।

Meditate, O Nanak, on God, the invisible, the wonderful! ||5||

ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਤੇ ਮੁੜ ਕੇ ਤੂੰ ਸਾਈਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਉਚਾਰਨ ਕਰ।

Time after time, again and again, meditate on God.

ਨਾਮ ਸੁਧਾਰਸ ਪਾਨ ਕਰਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਇਹ ਆਤਮਾ ਤੇ ਦੇਹਿ ਰੱਜ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।

Drinking in this Nectar, this mind and body are satisfied.

ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਹੀਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ,

The jewel of the Naam is obtained by the Gurmukhs;

ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ-ਸਮਰਪਣ ਰੱਬ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਦੇਖਦਾ।

they see no other than God.

ਨਾਮ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਦੌਲਤ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸੁੰਦਰਤਾ ਤੇ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ।

Unto them, the Naam is wealth, the Naam is beauty and delight.

ਨਾਮ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਆਰਾਮ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਹਰੀ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸਾਥੀ।

The Naam is peace, the Lord's Name is their companion.

ਜਿਹੜੇ ਪੁਰਸ਼ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਲ ਰੱਜੇ ਹਨ,

Those who are satisfied by the essence of the Naam

ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਆਤਮਾ ਤੇ ਦੇਹਿ ਕੇਵਲ ਨਾਮ ਅੰਦਰ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।

their minds and bodies are drenched with the Naam.

ਖਲੌਦਿਆਂ, ਬਹਿੰਦਿਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਸੁੱਤਿਆਂ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਉਚਾਰਣ ਕਰਨਾ,

While standing up, sitting down and sleeping, the Naam,

ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਫੁਰਮਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਗੋਲੇ ਦਾ ਨਿਤ ਦਾ ਵਿਹਾਰ ਹੈ।

says Nanak, is forever the occupation of God's humble servant. ||6||

ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਜੀਭ ਨਾਲ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੀ ਕੀਰਤੀ ਉਚਾਰ।

Chant His Praises with your tongue, day and night.

ਇਹ ਬਖਸ਼ੀਸ਼, ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਫ਼ਰ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਦਾਨ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ।

God Himself has given this gift to His servants.

ਉਹ ਦਿਲੀ, ਉਮਾਹ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਮਈ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਮਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ,

Performing devotional worship with heart-felt love,

ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨਾਲ (ਅੰਦਰ) ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

they remain absorbed in God Himself.

ਉਹ ਭੂਤ ਤੇ ਵਰਤਮਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ,

They know the past and the present.

ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਦੇ ਫੁਰਮਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ।

They recognize God's Own Command.

ਉਸ ਦੀ ਕੀਰਤੀ ਕੌਣ ਬਿਆਨ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ?

Who can describe His Glory?

ਉਸ ਦੀ ਇਕ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਮੈਂ ਵਰਨਣ ਕਰਨਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦਾ।

I cannot describe even one of His virtuous qualities.

ਜੋ ਸਾਰੀ ਦਿਹਾੜੀ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੀ ਹਾਜ਼ਰੀ ਅੰਦਰ ਵਸਦੇ ਹਨ,

Those who dwell in God's Presence, twenty-four hours a day

ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਫੁਰਮਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਪੂਰਨ ਪੁਰਸ਼ ਹਨ।

- says Nanak, they are the perfect persons. ||7||

ਹੈ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦੜੀਏ! ਤੂੰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਪਨਾਹ ਲੈ।

O my mind, seek their protection;

ਆਪਣਾ ਦਿਲ ਤੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਪੁਰਸ਼ਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਮਰਪਣ ਕਰ ਦੇ।

give your mind and body to those humble beings.

ਜੋ ਇਨਸਾਨ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਆਣਦਾ ਹੈ,

Those humble beings who recognizes God

ਉਹ ਇਨਸਾਨ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਵਸਤੂਆਂ ਦੇਣਹਾਰ ਹੈ।

are the givers of all things.

ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਣਾਗਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਤੂੰ ਸਾਰੇ ਆਰਾਮ ਪਾ ਲਵੇਗੀ।

In His Sanctuary, all comforts are obtained.

ਉਸ ਦੇ ਦੀਦਾਰ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਾਪ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਣਗੇ।

By the Blessing of His Darshan, all sins are erased.

ਤੂੰ ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੀ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ਤਿਆਗ ਦੇ।

So renounce all other clever devices,

ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੇ ਉਸ ਗੋਲੇ ਦੀ ਟਹਿਲ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਜੋੜ।

and enjoin yourself to the service of those servants.

ਤੇਰਾ ਆਉਣਾ ਤੇ ਜਾਣਾ ਮੁਕ ਜਾਏਗਾ।

Your comings and goings shall be ended.

ਨਾਨਕ, ਸਦੀਵ ਹੀ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੇ ਉਸ ਗੋਲੇ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾ ਦੀ ਉਪਾਸ਼ਨਾ ਕਰ।

O Nanak, worship the feet of God's humble servants forever. ||8||17||

ਸਲੋਕ।

Salok:

ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਸੱਚੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨੂੰ ਅਨੁਭਵ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸੱਚਾ ਹੈ।

The one who knows the True Lord God, is called the True Guru.

ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਅੰਦਰ, ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਜੱਸ ਗਾਇਨ ਕਰਨ ਦੁਆਰ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਤਰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ!

In His Company, the Sikh is saved, O Nanak, singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||1||

ਅਸ਼ਟਪਦੀ।

Ashtapadee:

ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਮੁਰੀਦ ਦੀ ਪਾਲਣਾ ਪੋਸਣਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।

The True Guru cherishes His Sikh.

ਆਪਣੇ ਟਹਿਲੂਏ ਉਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਮਿਹਰਬਾਨ ਹਨ।

The Guru is always merciful to His servant.

ਆਪਣੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਦੀ ਮੰਦੀ ਅਕਲ ਦੀ ਗੰਦਗੀ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੁ ਜੀ ਧੌ ਸੁਟਦੇ ਹਨ।

The Guru washes away the filth of the evil intellect of His Sikh.

ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਤਾਬੇ, ਉਹ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਉਚਾਰਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

Through the Guru's Teachings, he chants the Lord's Name.

ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਦੀਆਂ ਬੇੜੀਆਂ ਕੱਟ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।

The True Guru cuts away the bonds of His Sikh.

ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸਿੱਖ ਮੰਦੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਹਟ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

The Sikh of the Guru abstains from evil deeds.

ਆਪਣੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਦੌਲਤ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।

The True Guru gives His Sikh the wealth of the Naam.

ਪਰਮ ਚੰਗੇ ਨਸੀਬਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸਿੱਖ।

The Sikh of the Guru is very fortunate.

ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਦਾ ਇਹ ਲੋਕ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਲੋਕ ਸੁਧਾਰ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।

The True Guru arranges this world and the next for His Sikh.

ਨਾਨਕ, ਤਨੋ ਮਨੋ ਹੋ ਕੇ, ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਆਰਦੇ ਹਨ।

O Nanak, with the fullness of His heart, the True Guru mends His Sikh. ||1||

ਜਿਹੜਾ ਟਹਿਲੂਆ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,

That selfless servant, who lives in the Guru's household,

ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਦਿਲੋਂ ਸਵੀਕਾਰ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ।

is to obey the Guru's Commands with all his mind.

ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਭੀ ਜਤਲਾਉਣਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ।

He is not to call attention to himself in any way.

ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਅੰਦਰ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਨਾ ਉਚਿੱਤ ਹੈ।

He is to meditate constantly within his heart on the Name of the Lord.

ਜੋ ਆਪਣੀ ਜਿੰਦੜੀ ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਕੋਲ ਵੇਚ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,

One who sells his mind to the True Guru

ਉਸ ਗੋਲੇ ਦੇ ਕੰਮ ਸੌਰ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।

- that humble servant's affairs are resolved.

ਜੋ ਫਲ ਦੀ ਇੱਛਾ ਦਾ ਬਗੈਰ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਚਾਕਰੀ ਕਮਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ,

One who performs selfless service, without thought of reward,

ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਪਾ ਲੈਦਾ ਹੈ।

shall attain his Lord and Master.
