Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji

ਜਿਸ ਉਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਖੁਦ ਆਪਣੀ ਰਹਿਮਤ ਧਾਰਦੇ ਹਨ,

He Himself grants His Grace;

ਉਹ ਗੋਲਾ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਿਖਿਆ ਤੇ ਅਮਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

O Nanak, that selfless servant lives the Guru's Teachings. ||2||

ਜਿਹੜਾ ਦਾਸ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਨੂੰ ਪੂਰੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਰੀਝਾਂ ਲੈਦਾ ਹੈ,

One who obeys the Guru's Teachings one hundred per cent

ਉਹ ਪਰਮ ਪੁਰਖ ਦੀ ਦਸ਼ਾ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਣ ਲੈਦਾ ਹੈ।

that selfless servant comes to know the state of the Transcendent Lord.

ਉਹੀ ਸੱਚਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਅੰਦਰ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੈ।

The True Guru's Heart is filled with the Name of the Lord.

ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਵਾਰੀ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਘੋਲੀ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ।

So many times, I am a sacrifice to the Guru.

ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਹਰਿ ਵਸਤੂ ਦੇ ਖਜਾਨੇ ਅਤੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਪਰਦਾਨ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਨ।

He is the treasure of everything, the Giver of life.

ਦਿਨ ਦੇ ਅੱਠੇ ਪਹਿਰ ਹੀ ਉਹ ਪਰਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਨਾਲ ਰੰਗੀਜੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।

Twenty-four hours a day, He is imbued with the Love of the Supreme Lord God.

ਸਾਧੂ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਅੰਦਰ ਵਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਸਾਧੂ ਵਿੱਚ।

The servant is in God, and God is in the servant.

ਖੁਦ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਕੇਵਲ ਇਕ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੋਈ ਸੰਦੇਹ ਨਹੀਂ।

He Himself is One - there is no doubt about this.

ਹਜਾਰਾ ਹੀ ਚਤੁਰਾਈਆਂ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੇ।

By thousands of clever tricks, He is not found.

ਨਾਨਕ ਪਰਮ ਚੰਗੇ ਨਸੀਬਾਂ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਐਹੋ ਜੇਹੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਪਾਏ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।

O Nanak, such a Guru is obtained by the greatest good fortune. ||3||

ਅਮੋਘ ਹੈ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਦੀਦਾਰ। ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖਣ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਇਨਸਾਨ ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

Blessed is His Darshan; receiving it, one is purified.

ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੈਰਾ ਨੂੰ ਛੁਹਣ ਦੁਆਰਾ, ਆਦਮੀ ਦਾ ਆਚਰਣ ਅਤੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਰਹੁਰੀਤੀ ਬੇਦਾਗ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।

Touching His Feet, one's conduct and lifestyle become pure.

ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਜੀਵ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਜੱਸ ਉਚਾਰਣ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,

Abiding in His Company, one chants the Lord's Praise,

ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ਰੋਮਣੀ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੇ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਾ ਪੁੱਜਦਾ ਹੈ।

and reaches the Court of the Supreme Lord God.

ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਬਚਨ ਬਿਲਾਸ ਸ੍ਰਵਨ ਕਰਨ ਨਾਲ ਕੰਨ ਰੱਜ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ,

Listening to His Teachings, one's ears are satisfied.

ਚਿੱਤ ਨੂੰ ਸਬਰ ਸੰਤੋਖ ਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਆਤਮਾ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।

The mind is contented, and the soul is fulfilled.

ਪੂਰਨ ਹਨ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਅਤੇ ਸਦੀਵੀ ਸੱਚਾ ਹੈ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼।

The Guru is perfect; His Teachings are everlasting.

ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੀ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਮਈ ਨਿਗ੍ਹਾ ਨਾਲ ਦੇਖਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਸਾਧੂ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

Beholding His Ambrosial Glance, one becomes saintly.

ਬੇਓੜਕ ਹਨ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਰੇਸ਼ਟਤਾਈਆਂ। ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਮੁੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ।

Endless are His virtuous qualities; His worth cannot be appraised.

ਨਾਨਕ, ਜਿਹਡਾ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾ ਲੈਦਾ ਹੈ।

O Nanak, one who pleases Him is united with Him. ||4||

ਜੀਭ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਪ੍ਰੰਤੂ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਹਨ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਿਫਤਾਂ।

The tongue is one, but His Praises are many.

ਉਹ ਪੂਰੀ ਪਰਬੀਨਤਾ ਵਾਲਾ ਸੱਚਾ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਹੈ।

The True Lord, of perfect perfection

ਕਿਸੇ ਭੀ ਬਚਨ ਬਿਲਾਸ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਜੀਵ ਮਾਲਕ ਨੂੰ ਪੁੱਜ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ।

- no speech can take the mortal to Him.

ਸੁਆਮੀ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਸੋਚ ਸਮਝ ਤੋਂ ਉਚੇਰਾ ਅਤੇ ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਪਾਵਨ ਹੈ।

God is Inaccessible, Incomprehensible, balanced in the state of Nirvaanaa.

ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਭੋਜਨ ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਉਹ ਦੁਸ਼ਮਨੀ ਰਹਿਤ ਅਤੇ ਆਰਾਮ ਦੇਣਹਾਰ ਹੈ।

He is not sustained by food; He has no hatred or vengeance; He is the Giver of peace.

ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮੁੱਲ ਦਾ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਥਹੁ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਇਆ।

No one can estimate His worth.

ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਅਨੁਰਾਗੀ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਨਿਮਸ਼ਕਾਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।

Countless devotees continually bow in reverence to Him.

ਉਸ ਦੇ ਚਰਨ ਕੰਵਲ ਦਾ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਦਿਲ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਰਾਧਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।

In their hearts, they meditate on His Lotus Feet.

ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਉਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ

Nanak is forever a sacrifice to the True Guru;

ਨਾਨਕ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਦਇਆ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਉਹ ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

by His Grace, he meditates on God. ||5||

ਇਹ ਈਸ਼ਵਰੀ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਕਿਸੇ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਪੁਰਸ਼ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

Only a few obtain this ambrosial essence of the Lord's Name.

ਜੋ ਇਸ ਆਬਿ-ਹਿਯਾਤ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮੌਤ-ਰਹਿਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

Drinking in this Nectar, one becomes immortal.

ਉਹ ਇਨਸਾਨ ਕਦਾਚਿੱਤ ਨਾਸ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ,

That person whose mind is illuminated

ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਨੇਕੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਪਰਤੱਖ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

By the treasure of excellence, never dies.

ਅੱਠੇ ਪਹਿਰ ਹੀ ਉਹ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਲੈਦਾ ਹੈ,

Twenty-four hours a day, he takes the Name of the Lord.

ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਦਾਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਚੀ ਸਿਖ-ਮਤ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

The Lord gives true instruction to His servant.

ਉਹ ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ਮਮਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਦੌਲਤ ਨਾਲ ਪਲੀਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ।

He is not polluted by emotional attachment to Maya.

ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਕ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਟਿਕਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

In his mind, he cherishes the One Lord, Har, Har.

ਅਨ੍ਹੇਰ ਘੁੱਪ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਲਈ ਦੀਵਾ ਰੌਸ਼ਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

In the pitch darkness, a lamp shines forth.

ਨਾਨਕ, ਸੰਦੇਹ, ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ਲਗਨ ਅਤੇ ਪੀੜ ਉਸ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਦੂਰ ਨੱਸ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।

O Nanak, doubt, emotional attachment and pain are erased. ||6||

ਗਰਮੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਠੰਢ ਵਰਤ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ,

In the burning heat, a soothing coolness prevails.

ਹੇ ਵੀਰ! ਪਰਸੰਨਤਾ ਉਤਪੰਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਦਰਦ ਦੌੜ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,

Happiness ensues and pain departs, O Siblings of Destiny.

ਅਤੇ ਜੰਮਣ ਤੇ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਡਰ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,

The fear of birth and death is dispelled,

ਸੰਤ ਦੀ ਪੂਰੀ ਸਿਖ-ਮਤ ਦੁਆਰਾ।

by the perfect Teachings of the Holy Saint.

ਡਰ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਬੰਦਾ ਨਿੱਡਰ ਹੋ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

Fear is lifted, and one abides in fearlessness.

ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਬਦੀਆਂ ਤਬਾਹ ਅਤੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਤੋਂ ਅਲੋਪ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ।

All evils are dispelled from the mind.

ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਉਹ ਮਲਕੀਅਤ ਸੀ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਉਤੇ ਮਿਹਰ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ,

He takes us into His favor as His own.

ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿ ਸੰਗਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਉਪ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਦੇ ਵੈਰੀ, ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ, ਦਾ ਉਚਾਰਣ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

In the Company of the Holy, chant the Naam, the Name of the Lord.

ਨਿਹਚਲਤਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸੰਦੇਹ ਤੇ ਭਟਕਣ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ,

Stability is attained; doubt and wandering cease,

ਕੰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੀ ਕੀਰਤੀ ਸ੍ਰਵਣ ਕਰਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ, ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ!

O Nanak, listening with one's ears to the Praises of the Lord, Har, Har. ||7||

ਉਹ ਖੁਦ ਨਿਰਸੰਬੰਧਤ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਹੀ ਨਿਸਚਿਤ ਸੰਬੰਧਤ ਪੁਰਖ,

He Himself is absolute and unrelated; He Himself is also involved and related.

ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਸ਼ਕਤੀ ਪਰਗਟ ਕਰਕੇ ਸਾਰੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਨੂੰ ਮੋਹਿਤ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।

Manifesting His power, He fascinates the entire world.

ਆਪਣੇ ਕੌਤਕ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨੇ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਰਚੇ ਹਨ।

God Himself sets His play in motion.

ਆਪਣਾ ਮੁੱਲ ਉਹ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ।

Only He Himself can estimate His worth.

ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਬਾਝੋਂ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ।

There is none, other than the Lord.

ਉਹ ਅਦੁੱਤੀ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਹੈ।

Permeating all, He is the One.

ਤਾਣੇ ਪੇਟੇ ਦੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਉਹ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਸ਼ਕਲਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਰੰਗਤਾਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਰਮਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।

Through and through, He pervades in form and color.

ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਕਰਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਉਹ ਪਰਗਟ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

He is revealed in the Company of the Holy.
