Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji

ਕੋਈ ਦੋਜ਼ਖ਼ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਕੋਈ ਬਹਿਸ਼ਤ ਦੀ ਲਾਲਸਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।

Some have gone to hell, and some yearn for paradise.

ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ਪੁਆੜੇ ਧਨ-ਦੌਲਤ ਦੇ ਅਲਸੇਟੇ,

Worldly snares and entanglements of Maya,

ਹੰਕਾਰ, ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ਮਮਤਾ, ਸੰਦੇਹ, ਅਤੇ ਡਰ ਦੇ ਬੋਝ ਬਣਾ ਦਿੱਤੇ।

egotism, attachment, doubt and loads of fear;

ਬੇਅਰਾਮੀ ਅਤੇ ਆਰਾਮ, ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਅਤੇ ਬੇਇਜ਼ਤੀ,

pain and pleasure, honor and dishonor

ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਤਰੀਕਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਵਰਨਣ ਹੋਣੇ ਆਰੰਭ ਹੋ ਗਏ।

these came to be described in various ways.

ਆਪਣੀ ਖੇਡ, ਸੁਆਮੀ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਰਚਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹੈ।

He Himself creates and beholds His own drama.

ਜਦ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਖੇਡ ਨੂੰ ਸਮੇਟ ਲੈਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਦ ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਕੇਵਲ ਓਹੀ ਰਹਿ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

He winds up the drama, and then, O Nanak, He alone remains. ||7||

ਜਿਥੇ ਕਿਤੇ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸੰਤ ਹੈ, ਉਥੇ ਉਹ ਖੁਦ ਹੀ ਹੈ।

Wherever the Eternal Lord's devotee is, He Himself is there.

ਜਿਥੇ ਕਿਤੇ ਉਹ ਰਚਨਾ ਖਿਲਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਧੂ ਦੇ ਤੇਜ ਲਈ ਹੈ।

He unfolds the expanse of His creation for the glory of His Saint.

ਦੋਨੋ ਪਾਸਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਉਹ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈ।

He Himself is the Master of both worlds.

ਉਸ ਦੀ ਕੀਰਤੀ ਕੇਵਲ ਉਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਫੱਬਦੀ ਹੈ।

His Praise is to Himself alone.

ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਲੀਲ੍ਹਾ, ਦਿਲ ਬਹਿਲਾਵੇ ਅਤੇ ਖੇਡਾਂ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

He Himself performs and plays His amusements and games.

ਉਹ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਮੌਜਾਂ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਫਿਰ ਭੀ ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਵਿਚਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

He Himself enjoys pleasures, and yet He is unaffected and untouched.

ਜਿਸ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਮ ਨਾਲ ਜੋੜ ਲੈਦਾ ਹੈ।

He attaches whomever He pleases to His Name.

ਜਿਸ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਜਗਤ ਦੀ ਖੇਡ ਖਿਡਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

He causes whomever He pleases to play in His play.

ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਬਾਹਰਾ, ਬੇਥਾਹ ਸੰਖਿਆ-ਰਹਿਤ ਅਤੇ ਅਮਾਪ ਹੈ।

He is beyond calculation, beyond measure, uncountable and unfathomable.

ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਤੂੰ ਹੈ ਸਾਹਿਬ! ਬੁਲਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਹੀ ਗੋਲਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਬੋਲਦਾ ਹੈ।

As You inspire him to speak, O Lord, so does servant Nanak speak. ||8||21||

ਸਲੋਕ।

Salok:

ਹੇ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਤੇ ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ! ਤੂੰ ਖੁਦ ਹੀ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਸਮਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ!

O Lord and Master of all beings and creatures, You Yourself are prevailing everywhere.

ਨਾਨਕ, ਇਕ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਹੀ ਸਰਬ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ। ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਕਿੱਥੇ ਦਿਖਾਈ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ?

O Nanak, The One is All-pervading; where is any other to be seen? ||1||

ਅਸ਼ਟਪਦੀ।

Ashtapadee:

ਉਹ ਖੁਦ ਬਕਤਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਖੁਦ ਹੀ ਸਰੋਤਾ।

He Himself is the speaker, and He Himself is the listener.

ਉਹ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਇਕੱਲਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਅਨੇਕ।

He Himself is the One, and He Himself is the many.

ਜਦ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਦ ਉਹ ਜੱਗ ਨੂੰ ਰਚ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

When it pleases Him, He creates the world.

ਆਪਣੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਉਹ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਦੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੀਨ ਕਰ ਲੈਦਾ ਹੈ।

As He pleases, He absorbs it back into Himself.

ਤੇਰੇ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੁਝ ਭੀ ਕੀਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ।

Without You, nothing can be done.

ਆਪਦੇ ਧਾਗੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਤੂੰ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੱਗ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰੋਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।

Upon Your thread, You have strung the whole world.

ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਪੂਜਯ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਖੁਦ ਸਿਖ-ਮਤ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

One whom God Himself inspires to understand

ਉਹ ਆਦਮੀ ਸਤਿਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲੈਦਾ ਹੈ।

- that person obtains the True Name.

ਉਹ ਇਕਸਾਰ ਵੇਖਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਤੇ ਅਸਲੀਅਤ ਦੇ ਜਾਨਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।

He looks impartially upon all, and he knows the essential reality.

ਨਾਨਕ, ਉਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਜਿੱਤਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।

O Nanak, he conquers the whole world. ||1||

ਸਾਰੇ ਇਨਸਾਨ ਅਤੇ ਪਸ਼ੂ ਪੰਛੀ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹੱਥਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਹਨ।

All beings and creatures are in His Hands.

ਉਹ ਮਸਕੀਨਾਂ ਤੇ ਮਿਹਰਬਾਨ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਨਿਖ਼ਸਮਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਸਮ ਹੈ।

He is Merciful to the meek, the Patron of the patronless.

ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਾਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਰਖਦਾ ਹੈ।

No one can kill those who are protected by Him.

ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਆਪਦੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਭੁਲਾ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਅੱਗੇ ਹੀ ਮਰਿਆ ਹੈ।

One who is forgotten by God, is already dead.

ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ, ਕੋਈ ਜਣਾ ਹੋਰਸ ਕੋਲ ਕਿਉਂ ਜਾਵੇ?

Leaving Him, where else could anyone go?

ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਸਿਰਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਇਕ ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਹੈ।

Over the heads of all is the One, the Immaculate King.

ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਵੱਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਤਦਬੀਰਾਂ ਹਨ,

The ways and means of all beings are in His Hands.

ਜਾਣ ਲੈ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਅੰਦਰ ਤੇ ਬਾਹਰ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੈ।

Inwardly and outwardly, know that He is with you.

ਉਹ ਗੁਣਾ ਦਾ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ, ਅਨੰਤ ਅਤੇ ਓੜਕ-ਰਹਿਤ ਹੈ।

He is the Ocean of excellence, infinite and endless.

ਨਫ਼ਰ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਉਸ ਉਤੋਂ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

Slave Nanak is forever a sacrifice to Him. ||2||

ਮੁਕੰਮਲ ਮਿਹਰਬਾਨ ਮਾਲਕ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਪਰੀਪੂਰਨ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ,

The Perfect, Merciful Lord is pervading everywhere.

ਅਤੇ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਉਤੇ ਮੇਹਰਵਾਨ ਹੈ।

His kindness extends to all.

ਆਪਣੇ ਕੰਮ ਉਹ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ।

He Himself knows His own ways.

ਦਿਲਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਜਾਨਣਹਾਰ ਹਰ ਵਸਤੂ ਅੰਦਰ ਰਮਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।

The Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts, is present everywhere.

ਸੁਆਮੀ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਤਰੀਕਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਪਰਵਰਸ਼ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

He cherishes His living beings in so many ways.

ਜਿਸ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

That which He has created meditates on Him.

ਜਿਹੜਾ ਕੋਈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਅਭੇਦ ਕਰ ਲੈਦਾ ਹੈ।

Whoever pleases Him, He blends into Himself.

ਐਸਾ ਪੁਰਸ਼ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਮਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਜੰਸ ਗਾਇਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

They perform His devotional service and sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord.

ਆਪਣੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਭਰੋਸਾ ਧਾਰਕੇ ਉਹ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੀ ਪੂਜਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

With heart-felt faith, they believe in Him.

ਇਕ ਮਾਲਕ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਨਾਨਕ, ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ ਕਰਕੇ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ।

O Nanak, they realize the One, the Creator Lord. ||3||

ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦਾ ਗੋਲਾ ਕੇਵਲ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਜੁੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।

The Lord's humble servant is committed to His Name.

ਉਸ ਦੀ ਉਮੈਦ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦੀ।

His hopes do not go in vain.

ਟਹਿਲੂਏ ਨੂੰ ਟਹਿਲ ਕਰਨੀ ਹੀ ਸ਼ੋਭਦੀ ਹੈ।

The servant's purpose is to serve;

ਹਰੀ ਦੇ ਫੁਰਮਾਨ ਦੀ ਪਾਲਣਾ ਕਰਕੇ ਉਹ ਮਹਾਨ ਮਰਤਬਾ ਪਾ ਲੈਦਾ ਹੈ।

obeying the Lord's Command, the supreme status is obtained.

(ਉਸ ਲਈ) ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਉਚੇਰਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਨਹੀਂ,

Beyond this, he has no other thought.

ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਕਾਰ-ਰਹਿਤ ਸਾਈਂ ਵਸਦਾ ਹੈ।

Within his mind, the Formless Lord abides.

ਉਹ ਆਪਦੀਆਂ ਬੇੜੀਆਂ ਕੱਟ ਸੁੱਟਦਾ ਹੈ, ਦੁਸ਼ਮਨੀ-ਰਹਿਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,

His bonds are cut away, and he becomes free of hatred.

ਅਤੇ ਰੈਣ ਦਿਹੁੰ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੈਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਉਪਾਸ਼ਨਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

Night and day, he worships the Feet of the Guru.

ਉਹ ਇਸ ਜਹਾਨ ਅੰਦਰ ਸੁਖੀ ਅਤੇ ਅਗਲੇ ਜਹਾਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਖੁਸ਼ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ।

He is at peace in this world, and happy in the next.
