Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji

ਆਪਣੇ ਪਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਣ ਦੀ ਇੱਛਾ ਅਤੇ ਤਰੇਹ ਨਾਲ ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪਲੰਘ ਤੇ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹਾਂ;

With hope and desire, I approach His Bed,

ਪਰੰਤੂ ਅੱਗੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗੀ ਲੱਗਦੀ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਨਹੀਂ।

but I do not know whether He will be pleased with me or not. ||2||

ਮੈਨੂੰ ਕੀ ਪਤਾ ਹੈ, ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਕੀ ਵਾਪਰੇਗੀ, ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਮਾਤਾ?

How do I know what will happen to me, O my mother?

ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦੀਦਾਰ ਦੇ ਬਗੈਰ ਮੈਂ ਰਹਿ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੀ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।

Without the Blessed Vision of the Lord's Darshan, I cannot survive. ||1||Pause||

ਮੈਂ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਦਾ ਸੁਆਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਣਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਪਿਆਸ ਨਹੀਂ ਬੁਝੀ,

I have not tasted His Love, and my thirst is not quenched.

ਮੇਰੀ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਜੁਆਨੀ ਚਲੀ ਗਈ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਪਤਨੀ, ਪਸਚਾਤਾਪ ਕਰਦੀ ਹਾਂ।

My beautiful youth has run away, and now I, the soul-bride, repent and regret. ||3||

ਹੁਣ ਭੀ ਮੈਂ ਪਰਮ ਚਾਹਵਾਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਗਦੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹਾਂ।

Even now, I am held by hope and desire.

ਮੈਂ ਗ਼ਮਗੀਨ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਹਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਬੇ-ਉਮੈਦ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹਾਂ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।

I am depressed; I have no hope at all. ||1||Pause||

ਜੇਕਰ ਪਤਨੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਹੰਗਤਾ ਛੱਡ ਦੇਵੇ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਹਾਰ ਸ਼ਿੰਗਾਰ ਕਰੇ,

She overcomes her egotism, and adorns herself;

ਤਦ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਸਮ ਆਪਣੀ ਸੇਜ ਉਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ।

the Husband Lord now ravishes and enjoys the soul-bride on His Bed. ||4||

ਤਦ, ਨਾਨਕ, ਪਤਨੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਤੀ ਦੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗੀ ਲੱਗਣ ਲੱਗ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।

Then, O Nanak, the bride becomes pleasing to the Mind of her Husband Lord;

ਉਹ ਆਪਣੀ ਸਵੈ-ਹੰਗਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਤਿਆਗ ਦਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਅੰਦਰ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।

she sheds her self-conceit, and is absorbed in her Lord and Master. ||1||Pause||26||

ਰਾਗ ਆਸਾ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ।

Aasaa, First Mehl:

ਇਸ ਜਹਾਨ ਅੰਦਰ (ਪੇਕੇ ਵਿੱਚ), ਮੈਂ ਪਤਨੀ ਬਹੁਤ ਬੇਸਮਝ ਰਹੀ,

In this world of my father's house, I, the soul-bride, have been very childish;

ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਪਤੀ ਦੀ ਕਦਰ ਦੀ ਮੈਂ ਸਿੰਆਣ ਨਾਂ ਕੀਤੀ।

I did not realize the value of my Husband Lord. ||1||

ਮੈਡਾਂ ਭਤਾਰ ਕੇਵਲ ਇਕ ਹੈ। ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਦੂਸਰਾ ਉਸ ਵਰਗਾ ਨਹੀਂ।

My Husband is the One; there is no other like Him.

ਜੇਕਰ ਉਹ ਮਿਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਧਾਰੇ, ਤਦ ਮੇਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਪਵਾਂਗੀ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।

If He bestows His Glance of Grace, then I shall meet Him. ||1||Pause||

ਅਗਲੇ ਜਹਾਨ ਅੰਦਰ ਪਤਨੀ ਅਸਲੀਅਤ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਣ ਲਊਗੀ,

In the next world of my in-law's house, I, the the soul-bride, shall realize Truth;

ਅਤੇ ਸੁਖੈਨ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਨੂੰ ਸਿੰਆਣ ਲਵੇਗੀ।

I shall come to know the celestial peace of my Husband Lord. ||2||

ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਦਇਆ ਦੁਆਰਾ, ਜੇਕਰ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਐਹੋ ਜੇਹੀ ਅਕਲ ਆ ਜਾਵੇ,

By Guru's Grace, such wisdom comes to me,

ਤਦ, ਪਤਨੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਤੀ ਦੇ ਦਿਲ ਨੂੰ ਭਾ ਜਾਵੇਗੀ।

so that the soul-bride becomes pleasing to the Mind of the Husband Lord. ||3||

ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜੋ ਸਾਈਂ ਦੇ ਡਰ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਨਾਲ ਸਸ਼ੋਭਤ ਹੋਈ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ,

Says Nanak, she who adorns herself with the Love and the Fear of God,

ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਭਰਤੇ ਨੂੰ, ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ, ਪਲੰਘ ਉੱਤੇ ਮਾਣਦੀ ਹੈ।

enjoys her Husband Lord forever on His Bed. ||4||27||

ਰਾਗ ਆਸਾ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ।

Aasaa, First Mehl:

ਨਾਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਹੈ, ਨਾਂ ਹੀ ਕਿਸੇ ਦੀ ਕੋਈ ਮਾਤਾ।

No one is anyone else's son, and no one is anyone else's mother.

ਕੂੜੀ ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ਮਮਤਾ ਦੇ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਵਹਿਮ ਅੰਦਰ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਹੈ।

Through false attachments, people wander around in doubt. ||1||

ਮੈਂਡ ਮਾਲਕ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਰਚਨਾ ਹਾਂ।

O My Lord and Master, I am created by You.

ਜੇਕਰ ਤੂੰ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਦੇਵੇ, ਤਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਉਚਾਰਨ ਕਰਾਂਗਾ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।

If You give it to me, I will chant Your Name. ||1||Pause||

ਜੇਕਰ ਕੋਈ ਜਣਾ ਘਣੇਰਿਆਂ ਪਾਪਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਪੂਰਤ ਹੋਵੇ, ਅਤੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੇ ਦੁਆਰੇ ਉਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਰਥਨਾ ਕਰੇ,

That person who is filled with all sorts of sins may pray at the Lord's Door,

ਪ੍ਰੰਤੂ, ਕੇਵਲ ਤਦ ਹੀ ਉਹ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਫ ਕਰੇਗਾ, ਜਦ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗੇਗਾ।

but he is forgiven only when the Lord so wills. ||2||

ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਦਇਆ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਖੋਟੀ ਅਕਲ ਜੜੋਂ ਮੇਖੋਂ ਪੁੱਟੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।

By Guru's Grace, evil-mindedness is destroyed.

ਜਿੱਥੇ ਕਿਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਉਥੇ ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਅਦੁੱਤੀ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਉਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ।

Wherever I look, there I find the One Lord. ||3||

ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ ਜੇਕਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਐਹੋ ਜੇਹੀ ਸਮਝ ਆ ਜਾਵੇ,

Says Nanak, if one comes to such an understanding,

ਤਦ ਉਹ ਸਚਿਆਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਰਮ ਸਚਿਆਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

then he is absorbed into the Truest of the True. ||4||28||

ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ। ਦੁਪਦੇ।

Aasaa, First Mehl, Dho-Padhay:

ਉਸ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਦੇ ਛੱਪੜ ਅੰਦਰ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਦਾ ਵਸੇਬਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ਜਿਥੇ ਜਲ ਤੇ ਅੱਗ ਉਸ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨੇ ਬਣਾਏ ਹਨ।

In that pool of the world, the people have their homes; there, the Lord has created water and fire.

ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ਮਮਤਾ ਦੇ ਚਿੱਕੜ ਅੰਦਰ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪੈਰ ਅੱਗੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਟੁਰਦੇ। ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਅੰਦਰ ਡੁਬਦਿਆਂ ਵੇਖ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।

In the mud of earthly attachment, their feet have become mired, and I have seen them drowning there. ||1||

ਹੇ ਮੂਰਖ ਮਨੁੱਖ, ਤੂੰ ਕਿਉਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਕ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ?

O foolish people, why don't you remember the One Lord?

ਰੱਬ ਨੂੰ ਭੁਲਾਉਣ ਕਾਰਨ, ਹੇ ਬੰਦੇ! ਤੇਰੀਆਂ ਨੇਕੀਆਂ ਸੁਕ ਸੜ ਜਾਣਗੀਆਂ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।

Forgetting the Lord, your virtues shall wither away. ||1||Pause||

ਮੈਂ ਨਾਂ ਬ੍ਰਹਿਮਚਾਰੀ, ਨਾਂ ਸੱਚਾ ਇਨਸਾਨ ਤੇ ਨਾਂ ਹੀ ਵਿਦਵਾਨ ਹਾਂ। ਬੇਵਕੂਫ ਤੇ ਬੇਸਮਝ, ਮੈਂ ਇਸ ਜਹਾਨ ਅੰਦਰ ਜੰਮਿਆ ਹਾਂ।

I am not a celibate, nor am I truthful, nor a scholar; I was born foolish and ignorant.

ਬਿਨੈ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਮੈਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਣਾਗਤ ਸੰਭਾਲੀ ਹੈ, ਜਿਹੜੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਭੁਲਾਉਂਦੇ, ਹੇ ਸਾਹਿਬ!

Prays Nanak, I seek the Sanctuary of those who do not forget You, Lord. ||2||29||

ਆਸਾ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ।

Aasaa, First Mehl:

ਛੇ ਸ਼ਾਸਤਰ ਹਨ, ਛੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਰਚਣਹਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਛੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੱਤ।

There are six systems of philosophy, six teachers, and six doctrines;

ਪਰ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਉਸਤਾਦਾਂ ਦਾ ਉਸਤਾਦ ਇਕ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਹੈ, ਭਾਵੇਂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਪਹਿਰਾਵੇ ਹਨ।

but the Teacher of teachers is the One Lord, who appears in so many forms. ||1||

ਜਿਸ ਮੱਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ ਸ਼ਲਾਘਾ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ,

That system, where the Praises of the Creator are sung

ਉਸ ਮੱਤ ਦੀ ਪੈਰਵੀ ਕਰ। ਇਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਤੇਰੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਹੈ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।

- follow that system; in it rests greatness. ||1||Pause||

ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ, ਸੈਕਿੰਡ, ਮਿੰਟ, ਘੰਟੇ ਪਹਰ, ਚੰਦ ਦੇ ਦਿਹਾੜੇ, ਹਫਤੇ ਦੇ ਦਿਹੁੰ,

As the seconds, minutes, hours, days, weekdays months

ਅਤੇ ਕਈ ਮੌਸਮ ਉਤਪੰਨ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਇਕੱਲੇ ਆਫਤਾਬ ਤੋਂ,

And seasons all originate from the one sun,

ਏਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਹੀ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ ਤੋਂ ਬਹੁਤੇ ਸਰੂਪ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ!

O Nanak, so do all forms originate from the One Creator. ||2||30||
